The one and only Star Trek movie I like.
Xbox Live: Kooter06
VI didn''t do it for you? It was kind of the same movie all over again.

Never saw it.

What about IV? They save the whales, ride the bus, and cure disease!
It''s out on Special Edition DVD now. I was *this* close to getting a signed copy by the director (who also did II) at a local Borders, but wouldn''t you know it, it was my birthday and I was too sloshed to drive...at four in the afternoon. Some nice extras, including a documentary comparing the movie to real-life events in the late 80s and 90s.
Edit: Plus you get to see Kim Cattrall wearing clothes.

The whale part WAS actually entertaining in IV, well, I laughed at least.

I take it back, I have seen some of VI. I remember liking Kim Cattrall in it and I also liked her in this.
Haha, just saw your edit Rat Boy regarding Kim, we think alike

The series had two basic themes - drama/action or comedy.
In the drama/action genre, ""Wrath of Khan"" was unquestionably the best movie ofallthe Star Trek franchises. IV was more the movie equivalent of ""The Trouble with Tribbles"" or ""A Piece of the Action"". Enjoyable in a totally different way to me.
Reagan understood that the key to peace was never arms control. Security had nothing to do with the number of weapons, it had everything to do with the intention and power of those who possessed them. - Charles Krauthammer
Some of the best battle sequences in Star Trek EVAR !
I liked Undiscovered Country too, but that more because Sulu was Captain and he had the Excelsior

Spock swimming with the Whale still cracks me up.
Ditto. The one with the whales is unbearable. I know that Chekov is supposed to be amusingly foreign, but he just comes off as a half-assed Andy Kaufman.

The sequence between Bones, Scott, the engineer and the Mac regarding the creation of Transparent Aluminum was pretty good.

Same here. Ricardo Montalban is so sexy without his shirt on.
* uncomfortable pause *
Ahem. I remember enjoying IV at the time... but after borrowing it from the library recently I''d have to agree with Sanjuro. Unbearable.
That wasn''t his real chest.

What?!!!! sh*t. I''m taking the posters off the wall now.
Why would you burst someone''s bubble like that?
Money can't buy you happiness...but it can buy you a boat big enough to sell right up next to it!-David Lee Roth
I thought that was false rumor, and I am pretty sure the SE DVD says as much. He was that fit in real life, which is what makes his current condition so sad.
" Did my love gun hit you?" -Gaald to Certis while playing Sins of the Solar Empire.
Off topic slightly: What was the condition or disease that Ricardo M. had? When I was a kid I remember watching ABC or CBS and they talked about some ailment that left him in a great deal of pain almost 24/7 and he hid it really well. Anyone know?
Xbox Live: Kooter06
I know he had some type of cardiovascular disease.

Thanks spot, that must be it.
Nice one mateo

VI is my favorite of the Trek movies. II is great as well.
Truthfully, I enjoyed all of them, though to differing degrees. One of the benefits of being as easily amused as I am.
The first movie was universally panned but turned out to be one of the better ones.

...and the less said about Sybok and trying to find God at the end of the universe, the better.
Khan: ""From hell''s heart I stab at thee...""

Khan also started the ""even-numbered Star Treks are good"" legacy.
2 (Khan), 4 (Voyage Home), 6 (Undiscovered Country), 8 (First Contact): Good.
1 (The Motion Picture), 3 (Search for Spock), 5 (Final Frontier), 7 (Generations), 9 (Insurrection): Not so much.
Nemesis threw that legacy/theory right out the window.

it did have the ""Data torpedo"" which made me laugh, if nothing else.
Also, ramming is should never be a valid combat tactic for space ships what with (a) energy shields (b) all the crew members you just consigned to their doom in the icy cold of hard vacuum..
I seriously couldn''t believe they destroyed the franchise like that, it was truly one of the worst flicks I ever saw.
I''m talking Gigli bad.
