Getting in the Halloween Mood?

So, I'm actively trying to get into ye olde spooky Halloween mood this year, by partaking of:

Music: Opeth - this progressive death metal band is extremely good at establishing an evil atmosphere. They would make a great soundtrack for a very smart horror film.

Movies: Planning to watch my all-time favorite horror movie, In The Mouth Of Madness. Also considering the original Night of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later, and about 10 movies from Netflix streaming, notably The Last Man On Earth (Vincent Price in I Am Legend) and The Call of Cthulu.

Comics: I'm going to read me some Hellboy for the first time in probably 10+ years (could watch the movie, too), and I'm going to check out the first volume of the Eerie magazine reprints that Dark Horse has published.

Anyone else doing anything deliberate? I'm not usually very into horror or establishing the Halloween mood, but this occurred to me for some reason.

Watching the first three Halloween movies (1, 2, and 4) is usually a good start. It's one of my favorite horror movies of all time and usually gets me in the Halloween spirit.

Ooh, good choice! One of the few movies that actually creep me out a little.

Nothing particular going on here. Although, by coincidence, we're in kind of a suspense/horror vein in our Blockbuster queue lately...The Changeling, Paranormal Activity, and From Hell.

This!

Welll, except for the Ghostbusters 2 part. It just wasn't as good.

So, maybe not "This!", but rather "Sort of!".

Also - dressing up like a lady-pirate for Halloween - at work! No more sneaking rum out of my desk drawer - I can take it to meetings and says it's part of my costume!

Digging up some movies sounds good, maybe Sleepy Hollow, and a Supernatural marathon.Though ever since I moved to TX I've lost my sense of the holidays. Without the seasonal cues of the northeast (falling leaves, cold wind, etc) I feel like I'm stuck in perpetual summer.

I love Halloween! Every year I look forward to some spooky movies (Halloween movies are good except for Halloween 3 and Resurrection) and pumpkin spice lattes at Starbuck's. I'd also recommend Trick 'r Treat (2008) which is not the best movie but it's entertaining and very Halloween themed.

I also like to buy a few pumpkins and carve them with my wife. Nothing says Halloween like some scary Jack-o'-lanterns.

I've been watching AMC's Fear Fest horror movie marathon off and on for the past couple weeks. Never was much into scary movies growing up, but watching them now, they're not really all that scary. I've seen scarier things on The View (Joy Behar *shudder*).

Nice, Mimble! I frequently dress up on whatever day my office celebrates. One year I made my own Strongbad costume.

Btw, I don't want to derail this thread, and there's already a Fall 2010 TV thread, but don't forget to set your DVRs to record the pilot of The Walking Dead on AMC on Halloween night!

When getting into the mood for Halloween, why not dress up as a Ghostbuster? It's timely, considering the impending release of the... oh right, the game was already released. I think I had a flashback to a thread a few years ago. Still, Halloween costume! This should get anyone in the mood to trick-or-treat:

SLIGHTLY NSFW LADY GHOSTBUSTER!
And then there was the.. ghost busting.. and other...

*blink*

Err.. back to the topic of movies! I always love a good viewing of Tremors around Halloween. The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra is also a special treat.

I'm also working up the nerve to see Paranormal Activity 2 with a friend; the first one scared the beans out of me, and it looks like this one is going to be even scarier. Argh!

I'd second a recommend for "Trick 'R Treat". It's a halloween themed 'anthology' movie the kind of which you almost never see made these days and personally I think it's excellent. All the tales intertwine with each other and mix in...

Spoiler:
serial killers, werewolves, undead special needs kids, and the highlight which is a grouchy halloween hating Brian Cox in an evil-dead style duel with a vengeful trick or treater.

Exactly the kind of horror movie we need to see more of in my opinion - tongue in cheeck, gory without Saw-levels of brutality. Great monsters. Lovely stuff

Damn - just made myself want to watch this later on In fact I think I'll pick out a few films tonight and have a bit of a weekend horror movie binge.

I wasn't organized enough to plan my Netflix queue in advance, but I love horror-comedies for Halloween.

Come to think of it, I picked up the Ghostbusters game a while back, but never got too far in -- maybe I'll start a new game at "easy" difficulty and be a plot tourist.

Probably watching my favorite horror movie of all time "Killer Klowns from Outer Space."

Halloween is probably going to be pretty low key this year. Normally, I would I go to a party that a friend usually throws, but she's not doing it this year.

Halloween is my favorite holiday so I've been collecting lots of props, decorations and candy for the occasion. And of course I've been watching horror movies although I haven't watched as many this year as I normally do. So far I've seen Satan's Little Helper, Session 9, Santa's Slay, ThanksKilling (awful!!), House of the Devil and Netherbeast Incorporated. Rocky is one of my favorite movies so that will be watched probably tomorrow night.

I have my graveyard all set up on the front lawn and still have a little bit of work left on my coffin. My animatronic Jason will be set up in a corner so when people walk by they'll get a nice scare. I'll post pictures later.

So many Slimer jokes, so little time.

I cannot take Paranormal Activity seriously after the Rifftrax of the first one as I just imagine the ghost to be Gary Busey at all times.

Saturday night, I will be playing bass at a bar, watching all the drunks. It is always a good time. Sunday, will be recovery, and then scary movies from Instant Watch while handing out Candy. Not sure what I will be able to get my wife to watch, but I'm hoping to do some classics like Friday the 13th or Halloween. If those proove too scary for the misses, Ghostbusters it is!

Halloween's my wife's and my favorite holiday. our decorations have been out since the first weekend of October.

My preferred halloween repeat-movies are Drag me to Hell and Trick 'r Treat (mentioned upthread) -- Trick 'r Treat especially is probably the best Halloween movie I've ever seen.

Then heading to one of my last "girls dress up like Skinemax" parties I can go to without being creepy-old at them.

The most I get is helping my sister finish off her costume of Diana of the Hunt. The only friend of mine having a party this year is one I haven't been close to in years, and he and all his friends basically like to drink and get high and smoke. Anything but my sort of scene (oh, do I miss RIT, where you are always bound to find other introverted nerds that are either too Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic Good for such things or simply too damn scared).

What really got my teeth grinding, however, is the short sword prop she ordered has a Lion on the belt sheath, and the first thought I got was "Lannister Lion". So if something's going on next year I'm going to see if I can go as Tywin Lannister (or maybe a really tall and fat Tyrion).

As for what I've been doing, put together the usual playlist on my profile page for a gaming community I write for, and I'll probably give Iced Earth's Horror Show a listen (coincidentally, their best album in my opinion).

As for movies, trying to get in horror movies these days is tough. I want to watch them at night with friends, but by time my niece is asleep everyone's ready for bed. I'll likely try and keep my regular tradition, though, and watch Alien 1-3, The Thing and maybe Predator 1-2 (though they're more action films rather than horror).

I want to be into Halloween but just can't do it. We moved into a new house 10/2/2009 and I was all sorts of excited for kids to come to the house. I didn't do much as I wanted to scope out if kids would actually show. Turns out thanks to no sidewalk on my road there's literally zero kids who come around. Kind of a shame, I had a great idea for how to decorate the house and make it all cool. Now it doesn't seem worth it.

Ahh well, that's more money I can put toward home improvement
