What do you mean? You can''t tell me if Microsoft gave you $5 mil you wouldn''t put in a feature just for them.

Co-op was one of the parts of Doom (and Quake) that really got me into the genre, but after I got good enough fighting alongside my friends, I found it was more fun to fight against them, since they were more challenging than anything the computer could come up with then.

Well since I''m tired of it I suppose all of you are too, bend over your going to love it.

*sigh* I get less excited about this title all the time. The good news is that there will likely be heavy modding and coop will probable get added that way eventually (assuming id dosn''t just ad it with a patch a few weeks later to give the Xbox version a fighting chance).

This is old news. I have no doubt someone will do a co-op mod for the pc version before to long though. I''m just glad that at least the Xbox version will have it out of the box. Plopping down on the couch with a buddy should still make for a fun experience.

Still I''m with you guys. Why can''t the retail pc version have it. Nobody does co-op anymore.=(

I really wasn''t expecting to see this anyway, considering how much they stressed this would be a single player experience.

Depressing. The hardcore gamer gets more and more marginalized. Oh well, I still have a ton of great games to play.

I''m just waiting for Carmack to respond to this outcry with his typical ""well somebody could make a mod that handles co-op...""

I started my own blog so when I feel the need to make an ass out of myself, I won't have as far to go.

Id a long time ago announced there would be no co-op in Doom 3

Additionally they originally were not even going to add any mp.

What really bothers me is that the Xbox will have it. What the hell? If neither had it, I would think ""Yeah, they said it would be single player experience.""

But if they already worked on the feature, what makes it so hard to not have it on the PC?

Screw that, id gets suckier by the minute. I still ache from the buggy Quake 2 release where Carmack said ""Yeah, we shipped it early to get into the Christmas rush action...""

I read an interview where they asked about that. The thing is id has nothing to do with it. The developer that''s doing the port decided to implent co-op on their own. With id''s approval obviously, but in the end they are the ones that decided to take on the work.

Oh I agree. I''m of the opinion that co-op should be as standard as death match in a FPS. I''m just saying this comes as no suprise, we''ve all known for awhile that Doom 3 wasn''t going to support co-op.

Welp, co-op was what I loved about Doom. No co-op just means I don''t think I''ll bother with it.

It''s going to be interesting to see how many people agree with you, especially since there are so freaking many FPS offerings over the next few months. I wasn''t going to play it co-op anyway, but I''m still not 100% sure that I will pick it up.

Id''s not being lazy, there''s a huge difference between communicating ON THE SAME MACHINE as apposed to communicating on the freaking internet.

All the players and monster''s position have to be reported to both machines.

Now I know other games do it, but one of the features in Doom 3 is no more ""hit boxes"". A bullet can whiz between their legs, damage an arm or miss a head that just ducked.

So they also have to communicate all of the bullets (in great detail) to the other computers.

Very doable on the same machine. Big problem over the internet.

Probably why they didn''t want to do MP in the first place.

I am still bothered by the multiplayer. If it stays at a limit of 4 players only, that will make it hard to enjoy as a GWJ game calendar event. Also, I don''t have the link but I recently read a interview that said Doom 3 is back to a summer release.

I never was much of a Doom 3 afficionado. Nad as the time goes, I am less and less interested in it. I''ll play it, but as the time goes, it''s more getting to be just something to get over with, than something to love.

Duke Nukem 3D I played in co-op and it was a blast. As hard as it might be to make, co-op is a great thing to have in the game.

I''m still on the fence for Doom 3, coop could have been a deal breaker. Still, I''ll probably pick it up sometime.

Will coop work via Xbox Live or only through some splitscreen approach?

Split screen, maybe lan for coop.

I highly, highly doubt you''ll see coop on live.

The stuff I mentioned up above is the reason why there''s only 4 players in MP.

There''s a whole lot more info to transmit than any other online shooter out there, but it''s still the same old internet.

I wonder if not having Hit Boxs will remove some of the fun?

I''m with you. Something like this may annoy alot of PC gamers, but it''s not going to affect Doom 3''s sales one bit. I doubt it''ll even stop them from buying it. It''s Doom 3, fergawdssake. That name alone & the hype around it will move a ton of copies. Wait until the full on blitz of reviews, screenshots, & movies begins closer to release. No one with a $300 videocard will be able to resist

It may be a bit mean, but I get a decent little chuckle at all of the angst surrounding PC franchises making the leap over to console. Deus Ex, Thief, Doom 3, Fallout. I''m probably bitter as a Mac user used to going without

To me this seems like a rather smart marketing move on their part. I would imagine that the majority of X-box owners have PCs, probably fairly high-end ones at that. Why would they purchase the Xbox version instead of the PC version?

They are probably going to get at least a decent number of dual sales with D00m3. People buying it for their PC in order to have a graphic rich environment, netplay, and the immersion gained form playing solo in front of a monitor with headphones. The same people buying it for their Xbox as well in order to have a quick fun game of co-op when their buddies come over.

If I was inclined to pick only one version it would probably be the Xbox version. I know I would get more bang for my buck in terms of replayability. I still play Halo co-op or MP when friend scome over. I can imagine that Doom3 would be the same way, not to mention that I don''t have to spend upwards of $300 upgrading my machine in order to assure that it will run smoothly.

All that being said, I am diehard PC gamer and wish things were different, but this is just the way the things are now. Not to mention I would always rather play co-op with a buddy sitting next to me on the couch instead of someone across the net.
