What's a good game for me...

Decent overview from Kotaku on the top (constantly changing list) titles for the platform (link says 8, currently, there are 12). Good format in the overviews, featuring a "good match for, not for those who want" summation, ie.

I'm not paying $300 for a handheld. Period.

There's been news floating around that Megaman Legends 3 was announced, but I can't find any sources.

Edit - found one

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/me...

There will also be a Virtual console for GB and GBA games.

Spoiler:

I shall refrain from comments about DLC.

Nevermind, Tannhausered on the Megaman link

I'll wait for the inevitable Lite/Slim version

Edit - if it's on par, ($299) and you factor in the (Canadian) tax, it'll be $330-340.

Too rich for my blood.

http://kotaku.com/5650673/resident-e...

It's not a new game. It takes the popular "bonus" game modes (and maps) from Resident Evils 4 & 5, combines them and gives them their own standalone title. Only now, everything will be in 3D.

Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel......

Also - New Rhythm Heaven and Fatal Frame games. (YES!)

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/ne...

Hopefully Nintendo will actually bother to port this FF game. (Oops - these are for Wii :/ )

O_O

I never thought MML3 would ever happen. Very cool news.

According to Kotaku, the launch for NA/Europe is March 2011

Lard wrote:

Nintendo actually said 'before the end of Q1', so anytime between Feb 26 and March 30th.

The quote I read is "Release dates for the European and North American markets were not quite as specific, Nintendo saying that the handheld would be out in the West in March 2011. No pricing details for these regions were disclosed."

I can't wait for everything to be in...........

3-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Yes I used this thread as an excuse to post this.)

Man, I'm gonna be turning 3d off pretty quick. I get slightly motion sick, and my eyes get sore easy..

3D or not 3D I'm really liking what I see with this thing. Going to start saving my pennies now

Bahahahahaha

Nintendo are far too much like Apple.

If they think they can get away with overcharging people for something, they will willingly do it.

$299 for sure.

$189 felt like a lot for the DSi XL, and I only justified that because of the big screen. The 3D stuff does not feel that compelling to me. Perhaps I will demo one and see the true face of God, but until that happens I'll likely not be buying one.

Besides, it will likely take me a good three years to finish all the DS games I have to play.

To everyone worried about the $300 (USD) equivalent price, please remember that the last couple DS releases have all been released at higher (equivalent) prices in Japan, like the DSi XL. The DSi launched at $210 USD equivalent in Japan and $170 USD in America. That's 80% of the price. This will more than likely drop the (actual) price a good amount for the cheap North American crowd. I'd just guess $250 for NA.

EDIT: Also, transferable digital software from previous DSi systems. This should make you a bit happier, Lard

ign article[/url]]Transfer Over Software and Data
You'll be able to transfer your already purchased download software to 3DS. This includes DSi Ware games from DSi and DSi LL. Nintendo notes there is a limited number of transfers allowed and that some software cannot be transferred.

IT'S LIKE I CAN TOUCH YOU!!!

$300 is more than the Nintendo Wii was, so if Nintendo is smart then they'll drop the price in America. I know it's a bit different what with being a mobile device and all, but even then it isn't the price that stays my hand. It's the fact that the DSi XL is JUST the right size for a gaming handheld I want, and the 3DS is going back to the original size. I'm not sure if I should wait and see if they release other models a year later.

As for the line-up, I just want to know why third parties have to be bags of dicks and can't support the Wii that awesomely.

I've paid about $785 for my iPhone over the last year ($200+$45/month more than my old plan) and I'm pretty damn sure I'll get more gaming enjoyment from the 3DS. I'm in at $300, if perhaps a little reluctantly. Launch games also factor in I guess, but I think this'll be hard to find for two years after release like the Wii. Getting a preorder ASAP might be the easiest way to handle the situation.

Also, just in case anyone missed it: Lard does not plan on buying a Nintendo DS due to the reportedly high price. I think that needed a little more clarification.

Edit: Dude, I f*cking hate gaming blogs. After actually reading the news posts instead of just this thread, my long-standing rage over their flame-baiting techniques has been enflamed. mrtomaytohead is exactly right. I predict the system will come out at $250 here. This isn't the usual obvious example, but neglecting to mention the gaming price differences between here and Japan...my sense of journalistic integrity is a sad panda.

For comparison, Dragon Quest IX released at $64 dollars there. The *average* DS game launches at $52. $35 here.

I think it's because devs enjoy pushing the envelope in terms of graphical fidelity and world-creation, which the Wii doesn't really allow.

I predict that the launch will be no different from the original DS and Wii in terms of available inventory. The retailers will be taking advantage of the situation, pushing "bundles" with mediocre games and 2nd-tier accessories. The end result will be that even if 3DS launches at $250 MSRP (as it probably will), you won't find be able to actually buy one till fall of 2011 cheaper than for $300-$350.

I would just like to say how much I love that expression since it appeared on this site, and I look forward to working it into as many conversations as possible.

Sorry Mom.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Don't think I'll pay $300 for it. Might just wait for the price to come down around the time there are a bunch of games I'd like to play.

Also, since I'm one of those freaks who can't see 3D like this, I'm rather interested to know if there'll be games that skip the 3D entirely and use the extra power to improve their 2D graphics. I mean, I'm sure it'll be possible, but it's also possible to make a Wii game that uses a standard controller.

That's one way to put it. Another way is that they know pretty graphics sell copies and while it may be amusing that Mom bought a Wii and played WiiFit a few times, she's probably not that motivated to expand her library.

They go where the money is.

Thank Louis CK, too. If you haven't seen it, go on YouTube and watch the clip of his stand-up act where he tells the "bag of dicks" story.

Well I first heard it from a friend at College who also coined the term Cockfaucet ("he opens his mouth and dicks fly out." "Like a cockfaucet?"). It really does give a mental image that fits sometimes.

Which pisses me off because it's one big self-fulfilling prophecy. The Wii had NOTHING at launch because all the third parties were like "Psh. Nintendo. They never sell". Then in 2006 they're all like "WHOA THIS IS AWESOME!", but two years down the line when stuff FINALLY COMES OUT the gamers are all "Psh, only good games on Nintendo are first party. Nothing on there but Wii Fit" and so nothing sells. There are no hardcore games because they don't sell, but they don't sell because gamers ignore any hardcore game on the damn system.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was one of my favorite games of 2009, but did it sell well? f*ck no!

Of course, that mom not interested in expanding her library might if there were ads on TV for games other than "Super Bloody Gun Fight 3000!" or "Baby Maker Extreme!"

It all just pisses me off, and it just seems so ironic that the cheaper platform to develop for is ignored when everyone is Female Doggoing about how all these HD visuals make it more expensive to develop games today.

But that is all off-topic.

I'm intrigued by the thing but not for anywhere near $250 or $300.

In fact... not even $200.

They're out of their minds if they think people will pay the same for a handheld as an Xbox 360 Slim.

Your mom wouldn't be interested in Silent Hill. At least, my mom wouldn't. Why do you really care about third-party support on the Wii if they only make games that aren't for you?

I think $249.99 US is going to be likely. You don't launch new handhelds in March for kids whose parents will still be buying them regular DS systems for some time to come. You nail all the hardcore fans on opening day than drop the price for Christmas depending on sales and availability. If there's going to be shortages (and there may be) then there's no reason to start at a low price. It'll take a while to burn through the early adopters.

The Kindle, iPhone, etc. all speak to the trend of soaking early adopters and phasing into the mainstream slowly. If you have a big, trusted brand like Apple, Amazon or Nintendo backing your product up ... why not?

I'll wait until the 2nd or 3rd inevitable version and a price drop. I've only had my DS Lite for 5 months and play it occasionally, heck, I'll probably just beat DQ9 right before I buy a 3DS in 2012/2013...

No, but unlike MS, they're going to make a profit off of every unit sold.

The PSP launched in 2005 at $249.99. In March, too, if I remember right. As Certis says, there's precedent out there for devices of this type selling for this price point.

Agreed. My guess is that it won't get any cheaper at launch than $250 USD. I'll wait until there's a healthy, well received library out first.
