The Official Clan: GWJ Reach Clan

The clan is an Xbox Live Silver account. To join, send a Friend Request, and I will accept it if you a) have GWJ in your gamer tag or in your quote or b) you make a post here that you have sent an invite. You need to be a member of this message board to join the clan. Membership will be first come, first served.

The multiplayer spreadsheet is a good place to post your id information for the online games you're playing, including this one.

GhaleonEB made an amazing OP on the GAF with art by M0dus. It has all the artwork and information you could want.

Yes, and as was said in that thread, it has no relevant information the op. It seemed like a good idea to start one that has the clan info and the spreadsheet link in the op. If it's not a good idea to have that info in the op, then the mods can lock it.

I made a mini-banner with the image you got up there.

Also, GhaleonEB on NeoGAF made an amazing post that has more Halo: Reach info than you can shake a stick at. Might be good to throw in the OP.

subbed.

We already have a thread of this.

Consensus on the other thread was to start a fresh one.

Woot, new thread! I like all the handy info at the top.

maybe put (Clan+links) so to not confuse folks from other thread?

Damn you Glanton, damn you.

Oh my resolve is long gone. Just finished reading the Popular Mechanics interview about the sound guy, really interesting stuff.

CptGlanton - Thanks for putting this together. I've added my GT to the spreadsheet.

Have this set for release date delivery. More interested in co-op game types FWIW.

I logged Slytin Locli and me in the spreadsheet.

(Trying to subscribe to this thread with something other than just "subscribing!"

I'm looking forward to Reach.

I added myself to the spreadsheet, and asked the Clan account "would you be my friend"?

Funny, I'm checking this thread and the Samsung Galaxy commercial comes on that is a blatant rip off of Halo. Surprised they could get away with that so close to launch.

I wasn't the only one to think that huh, I kept waiting for a Halo logo to pop up.

Release date shipping baby!

I have a long standing tradition of playing Halo games on Legendary with an old friend of mine, but there's no reason we can't have 1 (possibly 2) more. I'll check back with folks once the game is out, and see who wants to join us.

Just a note to the lurking folks who have played a Halo game and balked for the following reasons:

- Shooter on console
- Too cartooney/unrealistic
- Didn't like story
- Teh Haloz

You should really give multiplayer with a good group of people a try. There is something magical that happens when you have a solid party with Halo that is unlike any other game. Everything just works and the rhythm becomes hypnotic. Trust me, you will be converted.

Posting so it comes up in my recent posts list. See you on Tuesday night.

I am in for this as well, I am just trying to consider if I want to get the 360 Reach Console as well.

But I will be getting my legendary edition on tuesday morning since the eb i preordered from isn't doing a midnight opening.

Oli Welsh gave an incredibly jaded review over at Eurogamer. Reads like an 8/10 but says 9/10 at the end, I'm guessing for his own personal safety.

Usually I like Eurogamer, but as one of the commenters pointed out, the arthouse approach doesn't always work out well when you're reviewing, well, a Halo.

I don't get Halo. What about it makes reviewers go so crazy for it? I'm not upset about it I just don't undestand.

It's a lot of things. The matchmaking has always been ahead of it's time. Think back to Halo 2 on Xbox, now think about how many games still have horrible matchmaking today. That kind of great netcode is not only hard to implement but also makes playing that much more fun.

The multiplayer is also very well balanced. They developers spend a lot of time placing weapon/item and tweaking clip sizes. But a big difference is how every gun has a purpose and feels different. It isn't so much like CoD where guns have slight variations. There's a place and time to use a charged plasma pistol versus using a DMR. It makes for a more gamey experience. And speaking of gamey, Halo has always been that. You can play the campaign over and over and it will be different because of the amazing AI and you can turn on skulls that modify enemies to rack up a high score.

But I think legacy also plays a part. Halo was the first FPS on consoles to nail the FPS genre. It feels right, it plays right and it's a ton of fun. Since Halo almost every shooter has adopted it's 2 gun/regenerating health systems. And while that might not be as big a deal today, we are still gaming in a time heavily influenced by Bungie.

But it also has to do with polish. I mean, look at the package you are getting for $60. A campaign that you can play and enjoy by yourself or with 4 friends. A horde mode where you can play the opposite side like Left 4 Dead. A multiplayer mode that you'll be able to play competitively for years (look at Halo 2 & 3/Counter Strike). You also get a sweet map maker and an online space to post your videos and screen shots for even more fun times. It gets into the whole value proposition but when you put a Halo game side by side with something like Mirror's Edge you do ask yourself "why are these the same price?"

Those are just some of the reasons.

GiantBomb's review... Jeff Gerstmann gave it 4/5.

I'll agree with that, even with my limited online experience. It really is the intangibles that add up and make what could have been just a game with a space soldier shooting aliens into a quality game. Blizzard is the other big source of examples.

There's another subtle aspect of the Halo franchise that appeals to me: the software engineering seems very solid and refined. This translates to a gameworld itself that feels very consistent, realistic, and substantial. Again, it's a subtle thing. In car terms, it's kind of like articulating the differences in overall feel between a BMW and Kia. The interaction feels very connected and grounded.

Forza also has this property over other racing games. Kind of a sense that the software engineers put their hearts and souls into providing the best user experience possible.

If any board member has their clan request denied, post here about it and I'll get it fixed. It's already getting lots of friend requests from randoms, and I don't want anyone to get skipped over.

Cpt, I want in but haven't done the friends request thing yet.

Last gasp for MP for Halo 3 Monday night, anyone? We'll set up some custom games and just keep it limited to goodjers.
