I don't mind if people want to emulate Beck, but could they at least do it by getting arrested for speeding in a DeLorean with the gull-wing door open?

I didn't think the the interviews in that video were all that bad compared to other interviews I've seen from Beck's rally and other teabagger rally's. Yeah there were some dumb, totally incorrect statements made, but most of them were able to articulate their point well enough.

Rezzy Institute Poll:

Should the Founding Fathers be considered for saint-hood?
Strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree, or They're not?

Is the founding and blossoming economic potential of the United States of America a miracle given to us by God?
Strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree, or it's in the bible. Chapter and Verse.

Is Glenn Beck a prophet sent by God to restore faith to God's Greatest Nation?
Strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree, or Sent by? Didn't you see his speech? If that isn't direct divine manifestation then this isn't Jesus appearing on my Hamburger!

I added a little bit of snark for my own amusement, but those are serious questions that I'm afraid I know how an overwhelming majority of Beck's devout followers would answer.
I have no problem with Faith, until it tries to institutionalize itself at the top levels of government. Historically that hasn't worked out so well for the people that don't share the Faith that 'wins.'

EDIT: I should probably qualify 'I have no problem with Faith.'
I do. Sorry. But I've learned to keep my mouth shut most of the time. It's when people of faith begin projecting their delusions and expecting others to play along without doing the necessary prep-work, such as figuring out if their delusions are credible to outside observers, that my internal 'keep-out-of-it' valve goes AWOL.
Articulating your position from the perspective of faith is great! No problems. Articulating your position under the guise of fact, without maintaining even a shred of historical perspective? Melt-down.
I firmly believe that Glenn Beck, on his current trajectory, could unbalance a system that has worked to find equilibrium for generations. Woe to us if it tips in his favor.

Rezzy Poll Bonus Question:
If the Founding Fathers pledged Allegiance 'Under God' then it's good enough for our schools!
Strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree, or Heck! It's on our money. What more proof do you want?

Politely rude. Briskly vague. Firmly uninformative.

"Family values, put Christ back in the USA, and abolish social programs because only criminals and 'Welfare Mommas' use them"?

Yeah, they articulated their point well enough. The problem is that their point is backwards and/or ignorant.

I really try not to go this far in my assessment of people, but I have yet to run across someone who is a serious Beck follower who isn't genuinely stupid and wrong.

I saw a headline the other day that made my blood run cold. It was confirmation that there will NOT be a Beck/Palin ticket in 2012. The horrifying part was that people were serious enough about it to ask.

I don't want to bash the Republicans, the Tea Partiers, the Palin fans or the Beck fans but honestly. Just because we are all allowed to have our own opinions does not make those opinions equally valid or sound. It's one thing to elect a leader who disagrees with half of the country. It's another to elect one who made a name for himself by ceaselessly attacking half of the country.

This is much more likely. Beck has no interest in being POTUS; he makes a killing being the world's loudest troll. Palin doesn't want to either; she'd be perfectly happy to be the veep: A ceremonial role with no real responsibilities.

Also, the prospect of this scenario absolutely horrifies me.

Beck pulls in about 2.5 million viewers for his show in an evening. That's okay for cable ratings- about what you'd expect from a third tier drama on TNT or USA. There are far more people watching Kim Kardashian and her family than there are watching Glenn Beck, and yet the media treats the guy like he's got a huge following.

I agree with Bagga. The guy is making big bucks. Why would he want a change?

not sure the last time the Kardashians told people how to vote or got political. 2.5m is significant when 100% people dont vote and the 2.5m are most likely politically active and also drumming up more support for his views.

It's not so much about how political the Kardashians are, so much as how few people are exposed to Beck's views in his program. If it wasn't for the media talking about Glenn Beck 24 hours a day, you'd have a couple of million people who watch his show, nearly all of whom are going to vote for republicans in the fall. He's got lower ratings than O'Reilly and Hannity. The show isn't particularly significant from a cultural standpoint, so why does the media spend so much time focused on him?

The reason is because he's a wack job who runs around making news for calling Obama a Nazi. He makes for good copy. And our whorish media love him for it.

Does anyone have info on this "Pennsylvania Mosque" or was that dude just completely mental? Not that I care that a mosque be built anywhere, much less a community center.

In fairness, it is a non denominational chapel that has an imam and Muslim prayer services. So it is not technically a mosque. But then again, neither is the proposed cultural center in Manhattan.

In addition to his TV show:
- 6 NY Times bestsellers (5 of which reached #1)
- Third most listened to radio show in the U.S.

The reason he doesn't have more than 2.5 million viewers for his show is because of the timeslot. Put him in primetime and ratings would likely increase. What does TNT or USA do in the 4pm CST timeslot?

Here are the latest numbers I found, which compares his show to other news channel programs on at that time (From Sept 1, 2010):
Glenn Beck – 2,415,000 viewers (510,000) (1,104,000)
Situation Room—625,000 viewers (118,000) (238,000)
Hardball w/ C. Matthews – 454,000 viewers (142,000) (207,000)
Fast Money– 247,000 viewers (82,000) (141,000)
Showbiz Tonight — 251,000 viewers (101,000) (138,000)

He's crushing the competition. His numbers are far more than the other 4 combined. Like him or not, a lot of people watch his shows, read his books, and attend his events.

It's sad that the more extremist and idiotic the host, the more popular the show/documentary/etc seems to be. And this is regarding not just Beck, or even just politics, but all venues.

It's particularly egregrious in political discourse, because it damages our ability to have well-intentioned, educated debates on the merits of various political views as a nation.
