Has anyone experienced an echo in your rear speakers with an Audigy 2 sound card? The sound is muted and echoing the front speakers. When I run a speaker test, they ring loud and clear, but when I play music they mute and echo.

And can anyone recommend a decent sound card that runs with Windows 7?

Thanks!

If your motherboard has onboard sound and is anything resembling recent, it'll probably work pretty well in Win7. Win7's audio stack is actually pretty simple, and basic multichannel out is all you need. All the hypercomplex Creative features have been largely ditched; I think Microsoft is actively trying to put Creative out of business.

That is, by the way, a good thing. Creative should die in a fire.

One thing to check may be the Creative Control Panel (or Audio Console); there may be options for 'surround 3D', which can sometimes produce some odd effects with the rear channels. I'm on an X-Fi gamer card, so the options may be a bit different on an Audigy 2. I've also found that "restore creative defaults" can sometimes remedy bizarre speaker noise/effects.

Audigy 2 Echo sounds like a great name for a JRPG special attack.

I'm not crazy about it being Microsoft but honestly, Creative needs it. They've been the only game in town for too long. It's been ages since I've had a Sound Blaster that actually worked like it was supposed to.

As for the sound being muted, I think that much is intentional. At least in TV/video surround, the rear speakers aren't supposed to be as loud as the front speakers.

I don't care who kills Creative, as long as they die a miserable death. I swore off them forever once they refused to put up drivers that fully worked on their website, so that they could charge you $20 for new disks.
