Comic Sans Papyrus Jones get your ass in here now!
Any child born of someone from this site will have enough problems with bullies in school without bad naming.
I've had to make too many principal office visits because my older son knocked bullies around at school, even when he wasn't the one being bullied. My wife said, "You told him we'd back him if he stood up for himself and didn't back down. You get to deal with it."
[Edit] Oh, I was in this thread! I'll keep it in the Fabrication thread after this, but I did finish up the CNC machine that I posted up above. Now on to actually using it.
(Another piss-poor cellphone photo)
Made this for my brothers birthday. Thinking about selling prints. People in the "questions you want answered" thread were interested
Still interested in buying a print.
Not a SF guy, so besides contrast, is there a reason some are red?
Oh, and very cool.

They appear to be more proactive about bullies than they were 30 years ago, so I have great hope. And #1 son is in a slew of nerdy clubs in middle school (Minecraft Club, Robotics club, Model Rocket club, Tech crew, Science Olympiad and band) with no signs of trouble so far.
As far as recent projects -- finished this knit (named "I can't actually knit on the bus") last month:
and this scarf (which I call "Double Rainbow, What Does it Mean?") earlier in the year:

For the best reason of all: because we demanded it
=)
Still awesome, TB. Thanks for posting the final product.
Pssh. Your mom's an awful font.
She totally is: http://www.1001fonts.com/may-queen-f...
I am now selling this poster print. Check out the Official Trading post for the details

Technically I created it. The toolbox didn't look like this when I started
Yay! Toolbox! Is that just a trick of a tight crop or am I rightfully jealous of all that space? I'd be happy with 800 sq. ft. of house if I could gut all the rest for workshop space. Of course if you asked the wife she'd say I already have.
The garage is 20x27 (oversized 2 car). At this point the cars are not in the garage so there's a lot of space Along the back wall to the left of the door is where a workbench will eventually go.
As for total space, my house is only 1060sq ft, basement adds another 600 or 700 sq ft of living space. It's a decent ranch but nothing that I would brag about.
Okay, so about the size of my garage, it's just yours isn't filled with metalworking, woodworking, and machining equipment as well as mountain bikes with their associated parts and tools. If I could ever settle on one hobby I'd have a lot more skill and room.
Just going to quietly post illustration after illustration.
Feel free to keep them coming! I really like the Streetlight Manifesto poster.
I request you illustrate Grim Fandango! You must do it. It is demanded of you!

Yes please. I'm always glad to see them.
I picked up a Dewalt planer on Saturday, but upon getting it into the shop, realized I had no good place to put it. The gent who sold me the tool was a restoration carpenter, living in a 19th-century American judge's house. We got to talking, and he gave me a handful of old Fine Woodworking and Shop Notes issues that he had kicking around in the woodshed; I pulled them out yesterday afternoon and started poking through them, and came across plans for a planer stand.
Today, I built it -- full pictures here, with step-by-step descriptions..
The finished product:
Really nice. Do you have a place to keep it permanently or are you going to mount casters on it?

I have a permanent woodworking shop in my basement; it will get wheels for ease of movement when planing long stock, but it will be there full time.
I've thought about getting a planer to help in making bases for my sculptures. That stand looks great! What issue was the stand plans in? I may look it up.

#9 -- pretty old school. Check your private messages.
Here's a work-in-progress of the main character for a game I'm making. It's about a disgruntled clown who has to fight his way to the suburbs to perform at kids' birthday parties.

What do you do to keep the sawdust off of everything that needs to stay sawdust free, like the bikes, metalworking tools and such?
I'd be grumpy if I wore those pants. You should be proud of that work, nicely done WipEout.

Well, bikes get wheeled into the backyard prior to any work, typically. Everything else has to deal with my dust collection and just blowing out with the compressor.

Oh, they'll be even uglier once I'm done-- they're going to be a green/yellow plaid once I get back to texture work Thanks for the compliment!

That planer has a dust hose adapter. Get yourself a shop vac and a cyclone separator - I use this one - and banish dust! I made a base that attached the separator to my shop vac so I can wheel them both around together. There's also plenty of DIY versions out there.

Was the use of the planer required to build the planer stand? If so, what did the planer stand on?

It was built out of plywood, so no planing was required.
MacBrave, what are the 2 small silver loops for; I haven't seen those in any of the designs I looked at (years ago).
I saw another video (don't have the link) where somebody attached those and swore he got better VHF reception with them. In the video they were pieces of aluminum off of an old OTA antenna. I didn't have that so I found those metal loops and gave it a try. Didn't make the reception better, but OTOH it didn't make it any worse so I kept them on there.
A lot of plans also have some sort of reflector grid made from grill screens attached to the back. I tried those and it made the reception worse so they were removed them.
