I generally don't self-pimp my stuff elsewhere, but I solicited a lot of opinions and feedbacks from my home-team here for this piece, so I wanted to at least make sure those folks who'd helped me out saw the finished product, even if it's MONTHS after I did the work. Like 6 months.

Some wonkiness in the edit but I'm happy with the final product.

I told you this on Twitter, but thought I would repeat it here.

This is an excellent, excellent piece. It would be nice to read more about your daughter's adventures.

Great piece. It's nice to see that the MMO-isation of 4th Ed. doesn't stand too much in the way of it being different from 'tabletop WoW', with a little effort. Otherwise you would struggle to get kids to see the value in pnp games over MMOs.

Rabbit, that was an excellent piece that really spoke to me. I've got 4 kids ranging in age from 7 to 13 and I've been considering running a game for a family game night, but I haven't played in probably 20 years and the rules have changed. I no longer have my old books and I don't have the cash to sink into purchasing new ones. The price tag of "free" to test drive it is the big seller. Thank you for rekindling an old fire that might help me start some new ones with my kids.

I do not have kids yet, but I look forward to being a father for several different reasons. The several times I have read articles in which you talk about your daughter playing D&D is one of the things I look forward to. Hopefully my future children will want to play some of "Dad's games," but even if I don't luck out, and my kids shy away from D&D and other nerdly passions, I can still look forward to seeing the excitement on their faces when they are doing something they love. That being said, I am so hoping that they follow in my footsteps and eventually convert my wife into playing family D&D on Sunday night.

That? That is awesome. Great article. I have a seven-year-old who is going to love gaming in a couple years.

Sadly, I threw out most of my pen and paper stuff years ago. I wish I had all that stuff now so that in a few years I could give to my little guy. The only PnP game I own at the moment is Call of Cthulhu and I don't think Lovecraft's worldview is a good setting for a young player. I did read this article a few weeks back that tries to accomplish this feat.

WotC will be, in the fall, releasing a new box-set for people who have never played D&D before. Red Box Essentials is the working name right now I think. It will have everything a player needs to play int he beginning levels, plus a introductory adventure that will take new players from 0-level (commoner, essentially) up to choosing their class based on decisions that they make along the way.
