Gotta ask cause the wife is sick of me keeping her up at night with noise. Will any usb headset with boom mic work on a xbox 360 or does it need to be a official headset? If they do work any suggestions in the $100 price range? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry Tetnis but as far as I know there are no compatible usb headsets for the 360. I had the exact same issue and ended up getting a pair of astro a40s which are excellent but pricey. Good news is they work for ps3 and pc as well. I believe that there are some other headset threads in the forums that you can look for that will give you more options

I have the Turtle Beach X1s, which should be well sub-£100 and work well for me. They are only powered by USB, though; they have a 3.5mm pin, an adaptor for 360 and work with almost everything as a result. The downside is a mass of wiring spaghetti.

Your choices for headsets that will handle voice on the 360 are limited to the Turtle Beach sets (X1, X31, X41), and the Triton and Astrogaming sets.

The cheapest of the Turtle beach sets is definitely the cheapest overall option, with the Astro A40's coming in at $250 for the whole package, and the Triton set up in that same price range.

Browse around through the X41 thread. You'll find plenty of impressions of at least two of those sets.

The Tritton AX 720 (which I just got) goes for around $120 US and works with the PS3, 360 and PC including the headset. It's super awesome.

Ah, that's significantly cheaper than I remember them being the first time Rabbit talked about them. Bonus then, though it makes choosing at the lower end a little more difficult, since the Trittons come in about the same price as one of the Turtle Beach sets.

You could get a regular headset and adapters. I believe a 3.5 to 2.5mm mono (has to be mono) adapter would work for the mic and you could get a couple of rca to 3.5mm adapters. Then you need a 3.5mm Y adapter. You would have to unplug your normal speakers and plug this stuff in but it would be cheaper than a new headset. Also, this is in theory. I know the speaker to headphone portion will work as I have done that. I don't know that the headset mic portion will work. I do know that you can plug a 2.5mm cell phone stereo headset in and it will sort of work. I believe it is the same connector as a 2.5mm cell phone mono headset.

Sorry it takes so long for me to get back and reply. Thanks for the input. Ironically enough I was listening to the conference call this morning on my drive in and whaddya know they mentioned the pair certis just got. Think I'll give those a shot. An extra $20 should only cost me one or two fingers with the wife. Get em brick and morter or online?

*edit*
so been lookin online cause i'm an impatient lil bastard and I can't find a brick and morter to get em...

Best Buy should carry them. Same price there and at Amazon I believe. ($129.99).

No I mean I married the devil and adding $20 to my agreed price point is going to cost me the loss of a finger or two.

No garuntee they will have them in stock, but Best Buy is where the headset was launched and they had exclusivity for a while. Hopefully that means tons of inventory.

Just wanted to say thanks for the shout-outs for the AX720s. With now (since last week) a PS3, 360, and PC to game on, I've been searching tonight for a nice headset to use with all 3 with nice sound and voice capabilities. I just ordered some of these for in-store pickup and am super excited!
