Altitude (2D Plane Shooter)

I've been having great fun with this game, and wanted to see if there was anyone else playing, or anyone else who might be interested.

The game is simply a fast-paced 2D dogfighting shooter, with various game modes such as deathmatch, Base Attack, Soccer (or whatever they call it), etc. It's intended for online play, but is bot supported as well. There is a Level and perk system, as well as achievements. Aircraft are somewhat customizable, and the game supports control pads very well. If anyone loved Subspace way back when, this is a must-buy.

Rather then inelegantly continue describing the game, I really recommend the demo. The demo unlocks ALL full game content through the holiday, and the full version is on sale for 7.49 on Steam right now.

edit: In somewhat related news, I found out after my post that if you try the game through this link: http://altitudegame.com/friend/114142 I get some sort of stuff. I don't know what exactly, but I do love stats.

I picked this up a few days ago and yeah, it's a blast. Reminds me a lot of games like Subspace. Worth picking up during the Steam sale.

Does it have a substantial player base?

I bought it, and don't like it, because it's not a level playing field. Players that have been at it a long time get access to much stronger weapons than you do. You have to grind for weapons. Screw that.

I haven't found the unlockables to be much stronger, only variants, but I could be wrong. I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference between me dying from an unlevel playing field or if it were just me sucking, though

Hmm. If I buy this game through Steam, do I get a key that I would be able to use on the Linux and Mac versions?

Now that I have a netbook, chances are the above post was written while on the toilet.

I bought it during the Steam sale, based primarily on the Giant Bomb guys talking about it during their podcast a couple weeks ago.

The same key works on both my Windows desktop and my Mac laptop. Don't know about Linux.

Picked it up. It reminds me of Subspace, which is a good thing.

By the way, I've put a fair bit of time into it, and thought it was okay up until about level 30, at which point the bots started absolutely destroying me in local skirmishes, and players were doing it too. Somewhere around that point, you appear to get put in the 'big kids pool', and you're getting hit with weapons you won't get until level 60. And leveling slows way way down, so it was looking like many many nights getting ass-reamed by people who are allowed to use weapons that I'm not allowed to have.

NOT interested.

That's not been my experience. The bots shouldn't really ever own you and I don't think they are level based - although I could be wrong. In terms of the player base it's quite small - since it was released on steam it's hitting around 130 available servers with anything up to 20 having people in them.

I've been playing on off since it was released on steam - currently level 50ish which should indicate i'm still very much a noob player :) So far my aim in a game is to stay alive as long as possible - the more xp you gain before you die the better your plane becomes (denoted by bar's by your plane). The hook for me in this game is it's not reliant on mouse control and games last maximum 10 minutes - probably the biggest seller for me :)

Football and Bomb the Base are both excellent game modes - worth grabbing the demo to try (3 hours of gameplay) - if it then doesn't grab nothing lost :)

Yeah I'm tempted to grab this, or the whole $10 indie pack thingo. Not sure if the other games are worth it however!

I'm sure it's worth it for some. I just picked up this game and Galcon Fusion though, the others didn't look like I would put any time into them. Save myself $6 I figured.

Got this game for 2 bucks and its a win for me. IMO you really need a gamepad controller of some kind to enjoy it.
We need to start posting our in game names so we can friend each other up. I'm "GWJ-Dax".

@Malor- Your comment seems to imply there is matchmaking by level/skill of some kind, but all I saw on first glance were a bunch of lobbies. Is there some way to let the game pick a fair match for you?

Ok, grabbing this and Galcon Fusion, I have no willpower! I'll edit later with an account name... although me being Australian, it probably won't be of much use to most of you!

Yeah I'll grab this when I get home, I had a lot of fun with it over the holiday trial.

Sorry about that, Dax. My internet decided it wanted to boot me out of the game.
