GWJ CIV4 Pitboss Game 5 Catch-All
This is the forum thread for the second of two 16 player pitboss games organized here. The game is also registered as game number 1546, GWJ_5 at CivStats - everyone's CivStats password to register in this game at that site is "stanny". At present, it seems that the server's turn notification is not working. CivStats provides the same service, so create an account there to see when new turns start.

You guys will have to retake your turns. Sorry about that, but I'm really at the mercy of what everyone else says works well for a pitboss game. Only ever played singleplayer myself.
Steam
I tried to make a new move, it won't let me, it just keeps flashing "Waiting for other civilizations" - again, I could be doing something stupid.
Are we still taking our place according to where we ended up in the list? That put me on William of the Dutch, which just happens to be my favorite?
I also couldn't actually move, it almost appeared as though the turn had already been taken or some such. I put in the moves for next time anyway.

If you had any of the civs set to AI then those would have taken the first turn already.

I noticed that the countdown timer was at 69 hours when I tried to take a turn as the vikings (it didn't let me do anything just said waiting for other players). I took the vikings because it looked like you could just take what you wanted based on the first post here.

I've taken the Brits - to new lows, no doubt.
"The players come from all over the world, the money from deep underneath the Persian Gulf, but, as another, older City poster campaign put it, this is their city. They may now exist in the global spotlight, but they intend to keep it that way."
Well, the idea was to have everyone take the first available Civ, but it looks like everyone took their spots willy-nilly.
I personally don't think it makes too big of a difference so I guess we can just take what we like unless there's some objection.
Hrm, I must have forgotten to turn on simultaneous turns. Sorry about that, had to restart again as I see no way to change options after the game's already started. So those of you who've already logged in will have to do so again.
And the game's set to a 72 hour turn initially to give everyone time to log in. After that, open spots go to alts.
I wound up with the Byzantines this time, mostly because they're the last ones on the list and I wanted to make sure the end people could take their turns.

Oh well, no Brits this time, so I shall lead another civ to a brief footnote in the annals of history...

Well I took the vikings again, but it seems like my starting positions just get worse with every restart.

Wandering Taoist here, the supreme leader of Khmer Rouge. I mean Khmer, just Khmer. Of course I don't plan any pillagings and looting, I'm a peaceful man after all...MWAHAHA!

I took the Native Americans since the Celts are gone.
I've claimed the Sumerians, which are now known as the "Murdertopian Collective"

I was wondering around with my Mayan buddies, and I thought I saw a good spot to thrown up some shacks. In their awe, they changed their clan name to "Absurdia", and the Absurdians can't wait to brew up some beverages to accentuate their time spent fishing.

After what appears to be a dream of things to come, the Sephirotic Combine is introducing itself to the world at large. Hello, world! In our dream, the Combine was surrounded by banana trees and jungle. The real world is a much harsher place, it appears. Still, we shall dig in where we are and make the most of an interesting situation. Hello, gold mine!
Oh, and apparently the bodies we are currently inhabiting were once the tribe known as the "Ottomans". Despite their name, we will be foot-rests to no one.

I claimed the Russians. I didn't see a place to change the name of the tribe, is that still available to me even though I tookt he first turn?
Oh, and are we up on CivStats yet?

I got India! First turn taken.

I found it in the main menu, under player details. I believe someone said Alt-D is the shortcut, but I haven't tried that yet.
Oh, and remember: if your Civ name ends with "zz", you get a -25% science penalty.

Ah just play a full game every day this week, and you'll be fine
. As the first 7 turns really don't matter in the long term, other then luck of course.

No kidding. (I'm also Vikings on the same map).

I just logged in, going by the pick the first Civ available to you rule, I am the Persians! At this time, I do not have a witty name yet for my civilization.
Just to make sure that I did this correctly, I logged in, gave my civ a password, took my first turn then exited the game, correct, right?
Wrong, you needed to immediately offer Tkyl of the Russians both of your starting technologies.

The Holy Roman Empire begins to spread its might. I can't say I've ever played a game as HRE, but there's a first time for everything, right?
I'm not sure exactly how I feel about my starting position, but I don't like my chances playing against all you pros, so I suppose it will become a moot point very shortly!

Nor me. I think the term is 'cannon fodder.'

"Ballista fodder" is a more appropriate term for me.

Let's put it one way - I'm in charge of a German Empire that will only last a thousand years if we have started on an island very far away from any other landmasses, and if the lions and the natives don't kill us.
Our scientists are currently telling me about something called 'bronze'. I have already declared the smelting of such things to be 'witchcraft', and some slightly smelly people in natural bark clothing (I think they said it was from 'Timberland', which must be another province) have been demonstrating outside the smelting works about the impact of the smoke on global warming...I think I'll feed them to the lions...or the natives, whoever is first.
Mind you, I have been informed that if we are still in business by the time of the first World Cup, then we have every chance.
