Hey, maybe someone else will pick up the title - which might turn out to be a plus in the long run.

I for one am at least happy to see that we won''t have another title dragged on as vaporware for months or years...

MMOG scene is in trouble...too many titles..too little market..and a very narrow demographic..

MS is basically putting all its eggs in the MMORPG scene with Sigil..

There hasnt been a successful MMOG launched in quite some time... other than FFXI which had an advantage with its IP its been really ugly out there..

I tell you one thing...the money dried up REAL fast for MMOG''s...I know a couple projects that are running on fumes...I get almost weekly emails asking for money..which they aint getting sadly.

again...there needs to be a huge change in design philosophy for any sort of real breakthroughs to happen...

This endless PVE EQ cloning aint going to cut it...

It''s like trying to have 50 amazon.com''s.. .whats the point?

Aint nothing new about the world order..it's been playing since the day they put George Washington on a quarter

I agree. While the MMO market isn''t going to die completely anytime soon, I see more of a future (and more of a market) for games that support user-run persistent worlds on a smaller scale, like Neverwinter Nights, or FPS games like Battlefield 1942 and Call of Duty.

I think the performance (or lack thereof) of the ""experimental"" MMO''s has indicated a certain lack of an audience. World War II Online, the Sims Online, and Planetside have all performed well below expectations (or hype). I''m not saying that only fantasy/sci-fi-rpg MMO''s can succeed, but it just doesn''t seem like the concept or market is ready for success yet.

And yeah, there''s a glut of MMO''s right now both active and in development, and there are going to be some serious bombs before the market hits a balance.

It isn''t just a market problem. MMOG''s can''t compete with single player/limited multiplayer in terms of graphics. EQ is the ugliest game I regularly play, and it runs far worse than any other game I have. Sure the newer ones look better, and maybe perform better than EQ, but I haven''t seen anything that I think compares to the best FPS games.

Don''t expect anyone else to pick up the title. It wasn''t published by MS it was fully owned and developed by the MGS.

The least they could do is just give it out to the public, if they are just going to let the code rot away on some hard drive. I know that that would never happen, but since they aren''t going to be making any money off of it, and they don''t appear to want to sell it to anyone else, it sounded like a good idea

It''s still tech that they can use in other games. I wanted the game live so they could hire me.

This is exactly what I was talking about a few years ago, it''s really no different than the RTS glut a few years back. Simply not enough pie for everyone to get a piece. Damn shame though, I know Elysium was really excited about it and they had some great ideas.

We''ll see what Brad McQuaid and Sigil come up with.

Funny, other than WOW, this was the only online game that I wanted to try. I guess I''ll have to go play FF Online instead.

Dangit I was looking forward to this game more than any other MMORPG because it was actually going to do something new. Bugger microsoft. Why couldn''t they have just bought out and then trashed some of the stupider MMORPGs running around to open up market share for their game, which actually had promise? Sigh.

That sucks. I was hoping some of their instanced and private stuff would have been cool. Oh well.

Well, if the internet rumor mill is to be believed, it was canceled so that Microsoft can buy Blizzard so that WoW could be an XBox exclusive (for a while - think Halo).

I am so tired of people posting things that show up on the internet. There is no factual basis for this rumour other than pure speculation. It isn''t from a ""close source to Blizzard"" or VU or Microsoft. People got this from a MESSAGE BOARD. Any time anything happens some website posts that Microsoft will buy them.

WoW will not be Xbox exclusive. It will not happen. The game has been in development for the PC and for MMORPGS means you CANNOT JUST PORT IT.

Microsoft has a deal with Sigil Games (Brad''s new outfit) and MMORPGS are no longer a sure fire hit. There is a glut of them out there.

I''m not trying to flame anyone just a rant about poor online gaming journalism.

I thought evilavatar was a joke site. Or was that somethingawful? Anyway, I can''t believe things are going so well for Microsoft that they can just go around buying companies to get exclusives for XBox.

Okay, for the record (once again and for the last time): Heise.de is a site that has quite a reputation and is definitely credible. However, the tidbit mentioned at EA is not an article at the site. It''s a post in one of the threads. Every idiot can post there, so there''s basically no substance behind this. This is as trustworthy as linking to some moron speculating on the IGN forums and going like ""IGN is reporting...""

Whoever it was to bring up said post...

1) ... he can''t speak (properly) German - well, in that case one shouldn''t mention content from German sites in the first place.

2) ... he can understand German - in that case he''s an idiot because it''s totally obvious that this is a forum post. Well, you don''t even have to be capable of understanding that language to see that.

It''s embarassing either way.

Oh come on now.... What good is the internet if we take away rumor and innuendo? Anonymity does wonders for increasing the entertainment value! Anyway, how much stuff gets posted here (or anywhere for that matter) that isn''t from the internet?

It wouldnt suprise me if Microsoft acquired the VU games division..

It would suprise me that they made WoW and Xbox exclusive. Would make very little fiscal sense.

Especially since they are sitting on a war chest that boggles the mind. Strategic acquisitions are definitely the way to go, since those acquisitions would support their overall strategy, but I''m wondering at this point if VU games is such a great catch.

Other than Blizzard, and the rights to the Blizzard games, its not as though VU has hit anything out of the park recently. Sure Homeworld 2 was good, but that''s just it, it was good, not great. What else have they got? Black Isle is closed, and the others are merely treading water.

A better overall buy, one which would support their Microsoft anywhere, all the time, would be Nintendo. And they are profitable.

They''re sitting on a war chest but VU Games has one gem, Blizzard. MS has wasted a ton of money on Rare and that doesn''t look like it is turning out well. Just because MS has a lot of money doesn''t mean they will blow it for the games division which doesn''t make them any cash.

I could see EA buying it since they buy everything else.
