Looked around for Metroid; Zero today and could not find it anywhere. Anyone have it yet? Any Impressions?

Second - Does anyone know when Metroid Prime 2 is supposed to be released in the states? I started playing the original again last night and it kind of got me worked up.

Metroid Prime 2 should be out this year.

I''ve heard Zero is very good, but very short, like 6-7 hours.

It is very short but really, really good. I beat it in (according to the play time) 4:27 though if you add up the many, many deaths I would guess more like 8 hours of playing. Maybe you want to rent it or something. I''m really glad I bought it because I really like the Metroid games and will probably go back and try to find more items and do more exploring and so on.

This is the remake of the original NES one or so I''m led to believe.

I never read that, I thought it was all new.

From another site ...

There has been some major confusion regarding this title since its announcement at 2003's E3 event – will ZeroMission be a precursor to the Metroidsaga or simply a remake of the nearly two-decades-old NES game? Well, now it seems that the game is indeed to be based off of the original title – but do not go getting any ideas about this being a simple port, á la the Super Mario Advance series! You see "˜Zero' Mission harks back to the events surrounding the first Metroid, a game that was completely set in the underground realm of Planet Zebes, but this time we are to be treated to a retrospective view of those occurrences in far greater detail as Samus also ventures to the above level regions of the planet and has access to abilities that were not available in the first outing.

OK, yes, I heard it was ""based on"" the old one, continuing the story, etc... sorry I was confused, when I read your post I read it as a straight port to the GBA.

Zero Mission is awesome. ''nuff said. Buy it!

I got it and am loving it but I am a tad dissapointed it will be so short.

6 hours? Come on.

Especially considering the number of good GBA titles on the horizon is so small.

I can''t understand it really. Last week Nintendo talks about how they shipped over 20 million GBAs and yet there are only 20 or so titles listed at EBgames coming out for the GBA. While they are not the repository of all GBA knowledge they are a huge retailer for games so it makes me wonder why there are not more GBA titles coming soon.

It''s also got the original NES it was based on packed in.

6-7 hours for a Metroid game really isn''t that short. The only one that ever took me over 7 hours to beat the first time was Prime.

*edit*
For me, the real fun of a Metroid game isn''t just in beating it once, but then in replaying it to find every little secret possible. I can''t even imagine how many times I played through Super Metroid before finally discovering every item!

These are games I refuse to use guides for; defeats the whole purpose in playing Metroid games for me. It''s all about the exploration.

That''s why Fusion is my least favorite in the series; too much being led around by the nose. I turned off the hints in Prime for that reason as well; it was much more fun to go back to places with new powers and find my own way.

I''ve found EB is not the best place to go for GBA games. I went in there today to find out when they would have Aladdin coming in. They told me ""the computer says it''s discontinued"". I said ""no, it hasn''t come out yet, it''s set to release tomorrow"". ""Oh, well they must have decided not to make it.""

Yeah, that''s why Amazon.com, Walmart.com and every other site that sells GBA games says it will be released tomorrow. Idiots.

Agree with you there on both counts. The feeling of being lost has always been one of my favorite things about the Metroid games.

I can''t wait for Prime 2. I''m really looking forward to seeing if they''ve listened to any of the complaints and where they''ve refined the gameplay. The first is one of my favorite games of the last few years. I remember how worried I was when I heard they went 3D and how happy I was about how good it turned out.

I absolutely agree. I had big concerns about Metroid not only being 3d, but being a first-person perspective. I wasn''t sure it would retain the same ""feel"" as Metroid and Super Metroid. Fortunately, for the most part, it did. I was amazed at how well it worked.

I''m very excited about the new Metroid Prime game (not sure what it''s going to be called; taking place after Prime or after Fusion?).
