Okay, seriously: If you can buy existing Rock Band tracks for this one, then I know what version I'm getting.

If they don't include a Lego guitar, they're fools, I tell you. Fools!

Lego Iggy Pop and Lego Bowie. I must say, that's both awesome and hilarious.

We bought RB: Beatles a few weeks ago specifically so we'd have the instruments for RB: Legos when it comes out.

Between the Legos and the ability to bang on the drums and screech into the microphone I don't think I'm ever going to get my Xbox back from my kids again.

I played it at PAX and here's what I said in the GH5 thread:

Lego Rockband could be amazing for young kids (and families). Its a different target market than their core product. I don't see it conflicting with RB2 or fragmenting that customer base in any way. I wonder what songs will be included for kids?

In fact, this is the impression I got while playing it -- I was on drums. (Is there a Lego Rock Band thread?) LRB has 5 difficulty levels, like GH:WT. The songlist... honestly, the only song titles I saw that I recognized were "The Final Countdown" and "You Give Love a Bad Name". If the game is being targeted at younger markets, these are particularly odd choices to me except maybe as a bone thrown to parents who get this for their kids and want a few songs to play themselves (assuming they don't have RB1 or RB2 or Beatles). I think for most of us, if you have RB2 then Lego Rock Band won't have much to distinguish it.

The note charts use Lego blocks instead of RB's normal colored discs.

Oh, by the way...

Full set list released:

Quote:
All the block-rockin' beats in Lego Rock Band have been revealed, with Warner Bros. also confirming upcoming DLC and a song exporting feature. Xbox 360 and PS3 owners will have the option to download "all of the songs in the Rock Band Music Store that have been identified to be suitable for all ages." Only songs deemed appropriate will appear within the Lego Rock Band Store and the game should "highlight" any newly added "family-friendly" tracks.

The Lego Rock Band disc export will cost $9.99 (800) and transfer all tracks from the Lego disc for use on the regular Rock Band platform. It appears to work in the same way as the conversion of the original Rock Band disc, except that owners will have to enter "a unique code from an insert in their game manual into a dedicated website" to activate the option. Check out the full set list for the console and DS versions of Lego Rock Band after the break.

Looks like you can't borrow your friend's Lego Rock band to transfer to Rock Band 2 like you could with RB1.

All in all, I am REALLY digging the song list.

The only way I'll get a new Rock Band is if all of my existing songs (RB1, RB2, downloaded) will carry over. I don't want stand-alone discs for anything. Rock Band has built a platform and anything that strays from it is pointless to me, which is why I won't be picking up Beatles Rock Band.

That is a pretty sweet set list though.

I've got a feeling this one is aimed more at the Don't-Have-Rock-Band-Yet-But-Do-Have-Kids crowd than it is at the hard core Rock Band crowd though.

I know this is exactly what they were after by doing this, but I am somewhat pissed about that-- I did the old "borrow" RB1 maneuver back when RB2 hit, and I'd love to do this again. Alas. I wonder if the first person to rent the game from Blockbuster or wherever will have access to the code?

EDIT: will these be made available as DLC for others with RB/RB2? I would love many of those songs, but no way I'm paying $59 + $8 to transfer.

Well I guess you can play existing DLC in Lego RB so long as the songs are "family friendly". Also the game costs $50 and it's $10 to port the songs to your hard drive.

So you have to pay for the game and pay to export to RB2? Ugh. If they are tying it to your copy of Lego Rock Band, at least let you port over for free.

I'm continually getting less and less enthusiastic about all these band games. I appreciate they want and need to make money but it feels like we just get screwed over.

While I'm saddened by the need for a Unique Identifier to pay for the transfer, I understand it. I seem to recall that everyone was so surprised that anyone could use a Rock Band 1 disc (plus fee) to get almost all of those songs, and it seems like our first impression (that it was too good to be true) was mostly correct. This is the path they took with the AC/DC track pack, so I can only assume this will be the way forward. Given the first-time code, I am a little surprised by the fact that the transfer fee is double what it was for Rock Band 1, but at the same time, the transfer feature was the biggest question I had about even picking up this game, so I will wind up paying it, but I won't be happy about how much it is.

I just picked this game up, and I don't know what it is about this variation on the formula, but it's just flat out fun! I was having a hard time keeping up with the relatively simple guitar in "Free Fallin' " because my 6 year old son, while on the 'Super Easy' difficulty settings, decided to start belting out his best Tom Petty impersonation. Just for that little thing, it was worth the price of admission. That, and the fact that he can now bang away on the drums without having to worry about the kick pedal is very welcome. There's just a playful vibe throughout the game that wasn't present in the previous iterations, and that by itself goes a long way as to blowing some fresh air into the series. It's a small thing that somehow manages to change the dynamics of the game.

The menu system is a little strange when you're navigating the story mode, but aside from that, everything else is extremely straight forward. I was quite happy that Rock Band 1 content and all the DLC I had bought showed up no problem within the game. I don't think you can get the Rock Band 2 content to show up in Lego Rock Band, but exporting the Lego RB songs to RB2 isn't a problem (once you pay a small fee due to licensing fee, as Atras mentioned).

Still having a total blast with this game!

Yesterday, I realized something else that makes me happy I bought Lego Rock Band. Since Harmonix essentially established Rock Band as a platform thanks to the steady stream of DLC, it has become less and less likely that I would buy DLC tracks which I'm unfamiliar with. Buying an actual disc full of songs has actually contributed to me discovering tracks I might not have otherwise, like the Hives' excellent "Tick Tick Boom" or Supergrass' "Grace". I probably would've never downloaded those songs, but having to play through them made me realize that those songs were pretty good, and it had been a while since Rock Band fostered that sense of discovery with new music.

My son is 6 years old as well. He tried the drums for a bit on the super easy mode, but he's way more interested in crooning lately. Hearing him go all Freddy Mercury on 'We Will Rock You' might never get old.
