A few of us that live in the same area bought Madden and were going to create a small league, but felt that it would be more fun to play against other GWJ folk than play against computer controlled opponents. Ideally we would like a full 32 team league, but we are looking for a minimum of 16 owners (at least 2 owners per division) before starting. I was looking at some forums and it seems that most leagues forming are using the below rules:
Settings and Rules:
Difficulty: All-Pro
Quarter Length: 7 minutes
Accelerated Clock: Off
Fantasy Draft: Off
Injuries: On
Fatigue: On
Weather: On
CPU Trading: Off
User Trading: All trades must be approved by the commissioner. Afterward if the majority do not approve, it will be overturned.
Free Agency will work as follows:
During the season- if you want to claim a player post the player name on the forum. Until the end of the week, any team can make a claim on this player. Before the next week begins, the commissioner will process the claim. The player with the worst record (or worst record from previous season) will get the player. Teams are limited to one free agent pick up per week.
Sim Schedule:
One week to play each game. If all games for the week are finished earlier than 7 days, the next week can be advanced earlier.
Other:
Poor sportsmanship is frowned upon. Typically meaning no going for it on 4th down on your side of the 50 unless down by more than 2 TD or in 4th quarter. No trashtalking. Be respectful (not that I have any concerns with this part when it comes to GWJ).

If the league isn't full, we will be accepting new owners throughout the season. It is my understanding that human/cpu controlled teams can be swapped at any time during the season.
If interested, please post the team you want and your xbox gamertag and I will keep the top page updated.
UPDATE: League is created

I checked this morning, we have 4 games left (all human vs human) in Week 1. ertic and I will be on tonight for some Monday Night Football. /cue MNF theme
I think I may have timed by vacation right, I have my trip to Florida inbetween games with 2 XBox opponents (Kush, you just lost your 4th straight game this year, what are you going to do now? "I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!"), so I should be able to play one right before I leave, and 1 the night I come back, to keep the league rolling.
And I am sorely disappointed that I only see 1 video highlight on the website with 12 games played. It's Monday morning, I should have like a highlight per game to get me through at least the first 10 minutes of my day!
"Saturday, Donny, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don't work, I don't drive a car, I don't f*cking ride in a car, I don't handle money, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as sh*t don't f*cking roll!" -Walter Sobchak
Hehehe...well, I saved one, but forgot to do the whole uploading thing. My game was against the CPU, though. I should have saved a clip of the CPU running back a punt against me!

What are everyones thoughts on week rollforward?
Do we limit it to every Monday so there is consistency (first roll forward being Sept 7th?
OR
Do we rollforward as soon as all games are done or 7 days, whichever happens first?
I like rolling forward once all games are done to keep momentum going, but I don't want to assume everyone else feels the same way. Any preferences?
I have a 6 day business trip/vacation coming up to Holland on September 19. But if I get flexible opponents in that week, I shouldn't miss a beat. I will pass off commissioner duties to someone while I am gone just in case.

I say rollforward when all games are done, or 7 days. I think you also have to take into consideration vacations and valid excuses to postpone the roll forward. For the most part, I think we won't have to wait the full 7 days. It's been 4 days of gaming for this week, and we have 12 of 16 games played, and I think half the games remaining have been scheduled to play tonight. Not to mention we will sometimes have two XBox opponents playing each other that can be simmed.

I see the benefits of having it every Monday. Consistency. People know to get their games in by Sunday night or Monday afternoon. Free agents go out Monday night and the league is rolled forward.
But I also know that a lot of people are eager to keep playing and the more we rollforward the quicker the season goes and we can roll into another season afterwards.

I have been chatting with Bean through e-mail, I figured I'd throw this idea into the pot as well:
Make the deadline Mondays. If the league gets their games done by Friday, roll forward, and give everyone the extra couple of days and keep the deadline for the regular Monday. Of course, if the extra time is so extensive that it spans 2 Mondays, cut the deadline a week early, as long as everyone still has a week to play games.
Example:
Week 1 ends on a Friday. Now 10 days to play week 2
Week 2 ends on a Wednesday, now 12 days to play week 3
Week 3 ends Monday, instead of 14 days to play week 4, move the deadline back to 7 days.
I feel like you'll have more instances of taking 4 days to run one week, and then another 10 to complete the 2nd, and we really haven't lost any time, where as if you make it every Monday, and you get a bad week, you might have games left to play when the deadline hits. Though, if the popularity of the league stays strong, deadlines won't be a problem.

I'm all for roll on Monday deadline and a commissioner decision to roll early if all games are played with the next roll being that following Monday.

I can't run the ball worth a damn against the computer. I still won my game but it was a very high scoring affair against the jets.
Millertime spanked the crap out of me, mostly stuffing my running game. I got a few lucky plays in, but the 4 INTs I threw that were, I think, all returned for TDs made the day a bit rough.
Edit: OK, only one was returned for a TD, but they all led to points. Still hard to overcome.

Agreed...i think im going to break my controller fighting for those things.

4 Picks is definitely rough. The game seems very streakish to me. I know if I typically throw one pick in a game I can expect more. Same with my running game, I either have it or I don't. But in that means, I also find it to be realistic, as players can be very streakish as well.

I wanted to come in here and completely rant about the web experience so far. Hopefully its just things on EA's end that need to be tweaked.
I'd say 60% or more of the times I try and login, I get authentication errors or server not responding.
When I do login, I have tried to change my depth chart on multiple occasions. After I make my changes I hit save. I can go to different screens like overview, roster, etc and then go back to depth chart and it looks saved. As soon as I close the website and go back in, all depth chart changes are reverted to default.
Stat tracking seems way off. Maybe once the week is rolled forward it will fix. But I was looking at stats from a few games and they were off. I remember the one that really stood out was under individual stats, Peyton Manning was showing up under the wrong team. Not that its a concern for league leaders, as the individual players seem to be getting the right stats, its just how they are being reflected in the games box score under "individual players". Example of Wonky Stats HERE. Both Manning and Wayne showing up under Jags amongst other errors.
Being that they finally added a proper web based interface to the game, they had to expect that it would be hammered with users constantly. They advertised it as "be involved in your league at any time" and pitched "at work, from your iphone, etc etc". They had to have been prepared for that much bandwidth usage right?
Okay, my rants over. Im still impressed that they got a web based interface up, and I like to see that trades, free agents, depth charts and other things can be modified from there. I look forward to the point where its fully functional and things save properly and things are tracked properly. Hopefully it won't take too long for that to happen.

No kidding. I can't run the ball...at all, usually. I keep trying, but I typically end up with 2 ypc. I did manage to get a total of 67 yards on 21 carries against KC, for 3.3 ypc or so, but it *was* against KC.
Oh, and Bumpie, their stats are totally funny in some ways. For example, the rushing stats on the website give the attempts, long, TDs, and total yards for each player. Well, at the bottom they give the totals, so I rushed 21 times for 67 yards. Well, they total the *long* run for each player, too. So, McGahee, McClain, and Rice had long rushes of 10, 5, and 11 yards, respectively. Under the Total tab, they list 26. I mean, it *is* a total....
Oh, and I was actually able to adjust my depth chart online and have it carry over to my game. No problems. Ha, ha.
XBox Live/X-fire: firesloth
One more funny thing: I turned off the 'fight for the fumble' QTE thing for offline play. I was playing a franchise game a few nights ago, and the opposing team fumbled the ball. My players came up with it. I got an achievement (30 points) for coming out of the pile with the recovered fumble...even though I did nothing but watch the canned animation (you know, with that one guy leaping over the top of the pile?).
Nice?
XBox Live/X-fire: firesloth
He probably ran the wildcat nonstop didn't he?
Maybe everytime I tried it was during some of their connectin issues, I dunno.
I got fed up and finally changed it in the xbox itself.
Also, note to all owners, please check your depth charts. I had 3 LBs listed as my priority for RE. I talked to Kush today and they had his punter doing field goal attempts (ask him how that turned out for him by the way!!).
Lastly, there are three games left to play. we have plenty of time to get them in, but if we finish early, we can roll forward and it will leave us more time for the following week.
I talked to shag today and said him and DS would likely play tonight, so that leaves two games
Philly vs Carolina and Bills vs Pats.
Hopefully you guys have started the ball rolling on setting up times to play.

In the sense that you can through them for ~10 yards a pop consistently?
XBox Live/X-fire: firesloth
Almost. I managed to get some good defense going against wildcat, but it still did some damage. He has one or two other weapons in his arsenal once you bite too hard on the wildcat.

Wildcat wasnt that effective.... I think i only had like 70 rushing yards. Definately was the INTs. E, u wanna put a slap on our game next week?
-Leonard Washington... where im from? a little town called none of your godd@mn business...
1 slap....deal
Yes. 4 of the touchdowns in out game were in the flats. 2 TDs were on kick returns.
This is worrisome to me, especially after reading that bit about someone running the Wildcat all game. Might as well play ranked matches against pubbies, then. Please try and be sensible, people. Abuse of the flats and Wildcat could result in this league going down the tubes.

Cover 2 defends the flats pretty well. However, it leaves receivers open on fly patterns down the sidelines.

Not really abuse.... i played a game last night against emill last night and lost to him as the Titans playing against the Texans.... Its defendable for sure

I got a pick six last night running Cover 2 against Panthers (OutdoorJanitor) attempts to run the flats. There are options, just don't get yourself caught if someone sees the cover 2 coming.

Abuse of the flats is real. I've never seen an NFL game where a team threw to the flats on almost every play. I'm simply saying that we would do well to not abuse them and force everyone to run the Cover 2, thus exposing deep fly patterns.
