Doublebear Studios first game (zombie apocalypse RPG :O )
Was hoping to save this for a rainy day, but it is cloudy here in Seattle today, so here we go. As the speculators have correctly guessed, yes, DoubleBear’s first game is indeed a Zombie RPG, which we have fondly referred to as a ZRPG internally. Before people start running in all kinds of directions with that, here’s what I will confirm:-Set during the breakdown of society as emergence of zombies causes widespread panic and disorder.
-Slow, shambling zombies. Spreads like a virus/bite transmission. No, you are not a zombie, that would be stupid.
-Serious examination of a national crisis or natural disaster. Humans and a lack of order are a bigger threat than the undead. Think Hurricane Katrina, Children of Men, Dawn of the Dead NOT Resident Evil, Return of the Living Dead, zombie shooter-type games.
-Game is about survival. Scavenging resources, exploring the area, dealing with other survivors, and managing a “shelter” of sorts are the main focus of the game. More on this later.
-Game is open-ended. There are characters and events that could happen, but the story depends on where you go, what you do, and who you meet. Of course, there’s a lot more to this and we'll go into more details as time goes on.
We’ll be here often shooting down the wildest of theories and discussing our systems in more detail. Let’s start the old back and forth, shall we?
Awesome. I've wanted something like this (zombie apoc game where you manage a survivor's stronghold) for ages.

Looks like it will be isometric view (going by the Age of Decadence game engine they are using). http://www.irontowerstudio.com

Oh well. I like zombies and RPGs so it's not a total loss.

Cool.
I'm not as much of a zombie fan as some around here and I think its starting to get played out, but I have alot of time for post-apocalypitc survival games, particularly when done right.

This sounds pretty sweet. This is the sort of zombie game that I have wanted for awhile. A singleplayer-focused take on Urban Dead with the depth and polish of a larger studio.
Nice, now I can finally test out my Z-Day survival plans.

This could be very cool.
I am also encouraged by the undeniable truth that two bears are better than one. DoubleBear, make my dreams come true!

This has been a different point of view.
I stand corrected! From the Doublebear webpage:
Though in appearance sweet and cuddly, the DoubleBear is in fact one of the most fearsome monsters ever to exist, ever. It is two bears, and yet just one bear. Can it hope to be comprehended?
Hopefully there will be a doublebear cameo as a boss monster in this zombie survival game.

Okay so from the about page
"Those wanting to be entertained by something unpredictable and intelligent should procreate or buy a cat." - BishopRS
Actually that's a good point - I've added that to the first post just so people know

Ugh. Yet another zombie game (I'ld rather play in a WWII setting by now, thanks) and a connection to Troika. Put me in line as the cynic for this game.

Sounds awesome. I wonder if it's too early to start bugging them about who's doing their music.

Troika was awesome! <3
I've stayed away from most of the zombie games as of late. The last one I played was RE4 if you count that. Hearing about this I'm glad I held off zombie bashing because this game sounds alot more interesting to me than L4D.

I am pumped for the chocolate + peanut butter potential of a zombie RPG. Also, Black Isle experience is a big plus in my book.

I'm thinking Dead Rising (for the ever-present psychos!).
Or gangs of folks thrown together by circumstance that eventually clash over dwindling resources and safe areas, a la Walking Dead.

They released a game with stale graphics lacking in artistry, archaic design decisions, an unbelievable amount of bugs that made the game literally unplayable for a huge portion of the audience, a completely broken skill tree system, a tedious and horribly unbalanced combat system and terrible A.I. Then they refused to admit any part of it was their fault and left it almost completely unsupported.
Then they repeated this exact same process two more times to the same degree.
So yes, until I see a finished, complete game, I see that connection as a bad thing.

I'd rather play a buggy game that is awesome than a perectly tuned game that is boring and generic.
Vampire is a great game that I still occaionally fire up. The writing in that game is great and the game plays radically differently depending on what type of vamp you play.
Arcanum wasn't the mot accessible of games but once you got into it the game utterly kicked ass.
TOEE could have been better but it was still a very servicable and more hardcore take on DnD rules.
Were they buggy at launch? Yes. Were they a breath of fresh air and very playable once you got over the bugs? Yes. (though TOEE had some doozys in the bug dept)

I loved Vampire and Arcanum. TOEE was so bug ridden and hard to grasp I couldn't get through it.

Never played Vampire but I loved Arcanum even if it was buggy, can't say TOEE ever really appealed to me though.
This game's concept sounds great. Although the idea in general is generic I can't think of a game that's done it in this style, especially not in an RPG. The concept actually most reminds me of Fallout with added zombies and if they pull even half of the idea off I'm sold.
So, you`re blaming the writer for all of the above? Perhaps we could dump the global financial crisis on him as well <:)
I`m Artsy Partsy Gun For Hire
I'm just angry at what he's done to slow our progress towards flying cars.
And underwater cities.

Nonetheless you should play it at your earliest convenience, lest you make Jeanette a sad panda.

Sounds like a scaled-down, video game version of World War Z. I hope they can pull it off.
