Title: Shadow Complex
Developer: Chair Entertainment, who made Undertow, the game Microsoft gave out for free and still doesn’t have anyone playing it.
Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios, creators of the best application ever made – Microsoft Bob.
Release Date: August 19, 2009
Platforms: Xbox Live Arcade, currently expected to cost 1200 points.

The Pitch: It’s a side-scrolling Metroidvania game, but in a futuristic setting (based on an Orson Scott Card novel) and with extremely detailed HD graphics.
Why You Should Be Excited: See above. It’s the type of genre you love but usually is only available on the DS nowadays. Plus, it looked so impressive, Epic Games bought the company out.
Why You Should Be Concerned: Well, if Cliffy B. thinks it’s awesome, it’s probably got more awful baditude then we’re currently led to believe. Also, it had hints of being not ready for prime time during E3.

Well, this has been on my radar for a while, and the Bombcast recently whipped me into a frenzy over it. However, I don't research things like this much, so I hadn't realized:

a) that this was the Undertow developers
b) it's based on Orson Scott Card

Both are negatives for me. =(

Still, I'm hoping for the best.

I'm in. I'm picky with XBLA titles unlike elewis, but Trine really reinvigorated my interest in 2D action games.

I've been looking forward to this one since I saw the video at E3. Metroid/Castlevania-style games are some of my favorites.

I was a bit skeptical at first, but after seeing some videos, I was interested. Metroid is one of my favorite series. I then ran into this video and realized that I will be buying it day one. Heads up - it's about 30 min in length!

Couple things I really like:
- They fully support sequence breaking (ie: doing/getting things out of order).
- You can replay the game with everything, including levels, you beat it with.
- The gear - what wonderful toys!

So chances are probably zero to both your questions. I would imagine it will follow the path of Gears and would hit the PC as a non-steam game a year later.

Popular or not, he isn't a very good writer. Also, some readers have a problem with his politics and religion and the ways in which those things are expressed in his stories.

Orson Scott Card is exactly why I'm skipping this game. I probably give unknowingly enough to homophobes. If I can consciously make the decision to not give money to one, I'll certainly do so.

Someone over at TrueAchievements with a review copy was saying it clocks in at around 800 MB, which is gigantic for a Live title. Or maybe it was 600 MB. Either way, pretty supersized.

I really want to try this but I am repulsed by the idea of buying something that will put money in Orson Scott Card's troglodyte hands. Too bad they didn't go with the multi-tiered pricing option of, Pay 800 points and Not Give Money to Orson Scott Card, or pay 4,000 points and get to kick Orson Scott Card in the Balls.

Since I only have a PS3 console I think I'm just going to buy Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for my "metroidvania" fix.

Maybe I'll make "pew pew" noises while I whip it, whip it good and just pretend I'm playing this game.

Wow, eurogamer gave the game a 9.

A few choice quotes.

"Shadow Complex is Super Metroid re-imagined by J.J.Abrams."

"In reviving a genre that the Japanese left for dead, the game offers a telling snapshot of the global games industry in 2009. Here is an American developer so emboldened by recent successes that it feels qualified to reimagine one of Japan's sacred classics. It's like Bungie sat down to remake Super Mario. Unthinkable. Yet somehow, the gambit's paid off. In fusing classic game design with contemporary techniques and sensibilities, Epic Games and Chair Entertainment have triumphed where Japanese developers continue to flounder. The result is nothing short of one the best games of this generation."

"The result is a glorious 3D reimagining of the Metroidvania style of game, at once reverent of its references, yet also eager to better their achievements. In some areas it meets this tall order, in others it falls a little short. Nevertheless, it's a game that will delight gamers old enough to recognise the classics it celebrates, while captivating those oblivious to its inspirations. Its inevitable success in the coming weeks and months could even kick-start the genre. Drop a stone into this game and the splash may never echo back. Its significance might just be unfathomable."
