Sony announced a release date and price today, and ... surprise! It's July 30! This Thursday! And it's only 14.99.

Title Fat Princess
Developer Santa Monica/Titan Studios
Publisher Sony
Release July 30, $14.99

IGN wrote:

5 Character Classes -- Change your character class and team role at any time merely by swapping hats. Character classes include Worker, Warrior, Ranger, Mage and Priest.
8 Unique Levels -- There are eight battlefield maps total, shared across single & multiplayer modes, plus two special arena-style single-player levels.
Online Multiplayer -- Jump in and join as many as 32 players online to wreak havoc on the battlefield. Coordinate your attack with in-game voice chat.
Single Player Campaign -- Play through all ten chapters to learn the story of the fat princesses. For quick action, battle bots in the Gladiator Arena.
Resources & Upgrades -- Work together to collect resources to upgrade your weapons and castle defenses.
Unique Game Modes -- Select from four different game types: Rescue the Princess, Snatch ‘n Grab, Team Deathmatch and Invasion.
Customizable Avatars -- Create your own personal avatar before you charge into battle. Unlock new customization options during gameplay.

There are a few previews floating around out there, but the game is sort of a top-down, class-based CTF game in which you can make the flag fat, and thus harder to carry back to your base.

You can switch between five different character classes literally at the drop of a hat: the fearless Warrior, the steadfast Archer, the mystical Mage, the tireless Worker, and the deadly Priest. In order to triumph, players must combine their skills and work together. The name of the game is cooperation, whether it’s helping another player drag a log back to your castle, manning a battering ram to smash through the enemy’s front gate, or building a human pyramid to scramble over the walls.

I know that the robust and fearless PS3 base at GWJ will rally around this and keep me company online! It gets so lonely sometimes. Also, don't ever Google Image "fat princess."

I want this. A lot. It was one of the games that made me genuinely interested in the PS3. I will be getting it and looking to add people on PSN.

I think so. From all the previews i've seen, the game appears to have a lot of depth, even if it is essentially Capture the Flag.

You have the usual concerns about number of maps, balance, and depth, so if you're worried be sure to look for early reviews from places you trust. But all signs point to very positive to me. If 1943 was worth 15 dollars--which it was in the end, probably--then this has to be.

At first glance of screenshots, maybe not.

After watching it on the 1Up Show and getting a sense of how much is there, yes. $30, actually, because my wife and I will each be getting a copy on our PS3s so that we can play together.

I am going to hold off on this. To be honest, I am not sure what the hype is about considering we all already have copies of Team Fortress 2. Is it the art?

Far as I'm aware there is no local or split screen play.

I think Fat Princess has enough to set it apart from the rest. There's an almost RTS-like system for gathering resources to build siege engines and such, plus harvesting cake to fatten up your princess to make her harder to capture. The class system is pretty unique, too, as it is all tied to the hat you wear. As you earn experience and rank up in the match it is all tied to your hat; if you die, an opponent can pick up your hat and continue at the level you were at. The game also has a single player campaign and arena battle mode (you vs. waves of enemies).

All together I think it'll be worth $15.

I think I will dust off my PS3 and get this. 15 seems like a fair price from what I read about this game.
