How do I sync multiple iTunes libraries?
Monday, July 6th, 2009 - 6:14pm
Hey guys. My iPhone should be here soon and I am running into a bit a of a problem. I have my work and my home computer each running iTunes. I want to be able to plug my iPhone in and not have to wipe the data out every time I want to sync.
Apparently you can do this if it was the same OS but my work comp is a Mac and my home comp is a PC. Are there any software or tricks that you guys use for this problem? I would like my work and home computer to have all the same songs and apps.

I don't have a great answer, but I did merge two iTunes libraries with some text editing of the export files. I exported both libraries to XML then I just copied and pasted them together with a text editor and then re-imported. Not sure how that works with apps.
Also, did I mention VYPER DRIVE!!!?
Not sure about the iPhone, but I know WinAmp will sync any iPod with any library through WinAmp on any computer. Also not sure if there's a version for Mac, though. Plus, you would lose a lot of the App Store functionality as well as automatic podcast downloads, etc (if using WinAmp solely), but it will definitely sync your iPod with multiple computers. I have shared a great deal of my library with friends and family this way, by installing a stand-alone version of WinAmp on the iPod itself. You can also stream your music right off the mp3 player through your computer this way. Just plug it in, open WinAmp, specify the Library folder, then drag and drop.
Hope that helps.

I believe that the iPod for mac and windows are formatted differently (or at least used to be) which will cause a problem. If you originally formatted at home, you could try to run windows virtually at work and sync that way. May be much more trouble then it's worth.
Yeah, it seems like a pain in the ass process. I've been trying to do a bunch of research but there hasnt been anything solid yet. I guess I will just do everything at home on my PC.
