Steam Account Value poll
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 - 2:29pm
I was hoping everyone would indulge me in regards to a bit of research. Could all those willing and able please visit:
http://www.steamcalculator.com/
and calculate the value of their account and come back here and post the value, along with the estimated year of their first purchase?
For example, using the calculator I get:
Account value: $189.91
And I know my first purchase was HL2, so my year is 2004.
I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
Keith

$554.72 and 2006.
Can't say it's very accurate though as I didn't pay full price for any of these games. Almost everything was bought in a sale on steam or, in the case of orange box, a sale on the physical copy.
The only thing I think I paid full price for was Plants vs. Zombies but even that came with a free copy of Heavy Weapon Deluxe which doubles the value on my account.
For some reason it says my profile is private, even though it is clearly not. Any suggestions on getting it to work? My profile is in my signature.

By the way, looking at the list, I doubt this is an reflection of actual dollars spent. For example, L4D shows a cost of $40, but I know I bought it half off at $25. I also bought Reaxxion for $1 during the Christmas sale, and this values it at $10 in my collection. There are several other examples of this since I rarely pay full-price for anything on Steam.

Broken for me too.
But I too almost never pay full price on steam.
Mine is also "private."

Instead of typing your username as the profile id, you have to type your user number. I think it has to do with the fact that people's names are able to change freely within Steam.

The calculator FAQ says you can use either your profile ID or your custom URL. And Steam makes it rather difficult for someone with a custom URL to even get their profile ID.

I got mine to work by using the number instead as someone suggested and I got $359.83.

Member since May 2004, although I'd estimate it wasn't until a couple year after that that I actually bought anything through Steam. The initial account was just used to launch HL2 and such purchased at retail.
I managed to get my Steam number in the url by pressing the home icon under my Steam community tab.

How does one find their Steam account number? I can only find a setting to adjust my custom URL which is also showing up as private.

Mine is $239 with packs $394 without... though these aren't necessarily what i payed since it seems to take the current values of each item. For some items i payed a lot more (living in the UK) and for others i payed less.... not sure if it all balances out or not, let's check.
There is a way to check how much you really paid though (for some games - not sure if you can browse your complete history without going to your stored email confirmations [assuming you keep them]). Open up steam and go to the store then in the top right hand corner of the page you see "my account". Open that and you have the prices of items you 'recently' bought.
For example my list is:
Game..............................Paid value.................calculator value
Bioshock................................$64.57.........................$19.99
Portal.....................................$23.44.........................$19.99
Wolf Pack...............................$23.44.........................$19.99
HL2 episode pack....................$23.49.......................~$24.98
X-com pack............................$15.85.........................$14.99
L4D.......................................$52.86.........................$39.99
Sam and Max Season 1...........$17.61..........................$29.99
Penumbra pack.......................£4.50~$7.40.................$24.98
Totals...............................$228.66........................$194.49
But that misses out: i only have the calculator prices for these games but i know what i approximately payed for the retail versions so i'll list best price for them:
HL+Blue Shift........................£20~$33.......................$14.98
HL2.....................................£25~$41........................$19.99
Sin Episode 1.......................Unknown........................$9.99
Dark Messiah.......................£25~$41.........................$9.99
Heretic Hexen pack...............Unknown........................$9.99
Estimated totals................$343.66........................$259.43
Things like including the valve ultimate collectors pack really cuts the price payed on a lot of valve HL items which overly reduces the cost.
I guess, in summary: It's not terribly accurate.

number can be found by clicking "community" then copying the number at the end of the URL and pasting it into the calculator. $479.82 for me. I was honestly expecting it to be more, so yay me!

An interesting web toy, but not capable of being remotely accurate as to the actual dollar amount invested. Some things were obtained on sale cheaper, and some things like Half Life for $50 in 1998 predate Steam's very existence.
