GWJ Conference Call Off The Record: rabbitcon

After we'd recorded the live show at rabbitcon back in May, we decided to stick around and chat some more with the live audience about how Gamers With Jobs got started, writing, boardgames and more. Rather than put it on the main podcast feed, we're sticking it here special for you.

Big shout out to the Drunken Gamers, who we totally stole the idea from.

Totally diggin' it!

On a side note: Lara has a voice I could listen to all day... you should bring her on for podcasts more often

According to my avatar, I'm actually #36. And point of order, I did more than Star Trek at Evil Avatar; I did do Star Wars, too, you know.

Oh, and I'm all for more naval gazing, if only to have a shot at shooting down all these rumors about me.

This podcast has finally given me enough resolve to join the GWJ forum proper. There was simply too much [drunken] love in the room for me not to take the plunge and become more than just a lurker and listener and podcast email contributor, as I have been over the last two years.

And I second the motion for more podcasts featuring Lara...or at least someone of the female persuasion. Cory's dulcet tones can only suffice for so long.

Keep it up guys,
Travis.

Aw, thank you. But be careful what you wish for. You might just get it.

Listening to this once more, I almost cried again. No, guys, really I love you more.

Yup. Definitely glad I joined. Though it may be for the wrong reasons. This is the place where we share all our feelings and constantly give each other group hugs, correct?

Well, I'm already here. I suppose I'll just find a place to sit.

By the way, right after we finished taping (of course), I remembered the second part of what I had to say: Writing isn't just about doing the work. It's about realizing that you will more often than not feel painfully, soul-crushingly insecure about your work -- that's just part of the creative process -- and if you're ever going to succeed, you have to acknowledge and accept those feelings, and refuse to let them cripple you.

hear hear!

I run up against this in my studio work in the architecture faculty. They are constantly tearing down your arguments and designs, but in the end what you have is often more solid than what you started with.

good 'drunken podcast', keep up the good work

I know EXACTLY how that goes. Oh boy. Not to mention your "arguments and designs" make up the last 75 hours of your 5 day week. It can be heartwrenching.

You guys mentioned _A Life Well Wasted_. I've been sending emails about Ashley's show to the NPR (PRI?) program "Re:sound" which takes pieces from other shows for rebroadcast. I figured it might be a way to get him a bit of exposure on public radio. But I'd encourage anyone else who loves ALWW and wants to see it grow to find other ways to get the guy some exposure.

I don't mean to hijack a discussion of your own podcast with another, but his show deserves all the attention it can get.

I hope this isn't already too far down the page, but you should do the other podcasts more like this! People are laughing, arguing, and talking through each other and pulling up random geek stuff.

It's like the first bunch of pod casts.

I think you guys should drink more on a show.

That would be both impossible and counterproductive.

Scratch that. Just realized it's only been about 1 year. I was lured over by Elysium's article over on The Escapist "A Site to Call My Own."

Thanks for this podcast, it was a nice inside peak into the inner sanctum and origins of some of the writers and podcasters.
