Didn't see a thread for this yet, so I thought I'd create one.

Release date: June 23, 2009
Platforms: 360, PS3, PC

I am really excited for this game. I loved the first one, and if the demo is any indication, this one should be a blast too. If you're not familiar with the series, I highly recommend you check out the demo. Hippy Elves and (disgustingly cute) baby seals are no match for your wolf-riding minions.

I downloaded the PC demo from Steam. It runs great on my system - 2.4Ghz core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 8800 GTS w/320MB RAM - and it works flawlessly with a 360 controller if you want to spend some time with your couch. I played it for about 20 minutes before I went to work today, and it just brought a smile to my face. The Steam version is available for pre-order (and I believe pre-loading) now, for $40. I was going to pick up Ghostbusters this month, but I think I'm going to pass and get this instead.

Also, the main menu lists "Splitscreen" on the PC, even though the Steam page only lists single player. I'm hoping that means they included local multiplayer.

I played the 360 demo last night. I liked the mechanics with the minions but I really liked the sense of humor. I'm going to wait until it releases to see if they can keep that up over the whole game, but I'm very excited.

I had some fun with the demo too, though it doesn't have you do much. Basically you get the tutorial and that's about it. The only new mechanic I could pick out was the wolf mounts - but those were pretty cool.

I did like that it started you right off the bat by clubbing baby seals. That was perfect.

Demo was great fun, probably going to pick it up next week.

I've been trying to finish up the first one over the last week (360) after putting it down for a while due to game deluge. I'm really looking forward to the new one. The mini-map will be a very welcome addition on the 360 version.

I thought the description for the demo in the Xbox Live Marketplace was cute:

Quote:
Overlord II, sequel to the critically acclaimed cult hit, sees the return of the chaotic Minions and their new Dark Master. Bigger, badder and more beautifully destructive, Overlord II has a Glorious Empire to smash, a massive Netherworld to revive, Minion mounts to mobilise, a trio of mistresses to woo, War Machines to crush opposition and lots of cute creatures to, err... murder (and a mini-map)

Clubbing baby seals was even more fun than I thought it would be! I think the game is better suited for a console though.

A heads up to anyone trying the Steam Demo: It apparently will not work on an ATI card. I got an error message about missing a nVidia driver, and so have others with an ATI video card. Grab the demo from Lex's post, that one worked fine for me.

I was listening to rebel FM and they said that the blue, green, and brown figurines are painted the wrong colors.

So close to release! Overlord is some of the best gaming I've done on my 360, so I can't wait to play the sequel. Clubbing baby seals is going to be so much fun.

Are they really complaining about the minions being the wrong shade of blue, brown, and green on Rebel FM? I think they look pretty awesome

No... the one that's green should be blue; the one that's blue should be brown, and the one that's brown should be green.

I played Overlord on the PC and loved it...enough to work through numerous bugs and a graphic card overheating issue that would crash the game randomly, and then to play through the first part of the game over and over to see if I could get around a showstopper problem in Vista...

Unfortunately, when I finally got it running correctly, I tired of the whole thing halfway into the game.

However, now that I have a 360, I'm going to give the original another crack through Gamefly, and will certainly check out the sequel eventually.

I went through the same thing Deadron and I can see the 360 version works damn near flawlessly compared to the PC.

*bonks head* Ah, my apologies. They're right. the gilled one is green, guess I just never looked that closely at them. Still, it's free and they're neat looking regardless.

Is it just safe to assume that if a Wii version comes out of anything its immediately given a lower score? Or am I just over analyzing into the past few available for everything games?

I'm tempted to ask for the Wii version as an easy birthday present from my in-laws. 7/10 sounds about right for a free game that I'm curious about.

NOTE TO ALL PUBLISHERS USING STEAM:

If you're going to let me pre-order the game, then you need to let me pre-load it as well. Especially if there's not some pre-purchase discount.

Considering they are 2 completely separate games I don't see how that would be relevant.

The Wii game is a port of Overlord 1, would you really find it surprising that people find the sequel, with it's fixes and enhancements superior to it's predecessor?

My days of not taking you seriously have certainly come to a middle.

Based on the demo of Overlord II, I'll say this: if I can control my horde with a pointer instead of flailing them about with a thumbstick, the Wii version already be a great improvement.

I don't think that's true. The Wii version is an all-new game. You play as the Overlad and screw up classic fairy tales. http://www.overlordgame.com/us/why_wii

Hmm, given no multiplayer (right?), if they don't have the showstopping bugs in the PC version that the original had, then I'll definitely buy it on Steam rather than 360, especially since I can plug the controller into the PC, so have a choice of playing whichever way works best.

Having no big bugs in the PC version is a big if, though, given the first one. Aargh!

I'm impressed. Decent sound and visuals. Nothing looks outright "bad". Nice cartoony style. The game ran flawlessly on full settings. Getting to beat up hippie elves was a plus. I'll be happy to pick this one up. Assuming the publisher doesn't pull another stupid ass move and refuse to release any DLC on Steam again.

And lastly. Warranty void if SEAL BROKEN!
