June 15 - June 19

Another week brings yet another release list worth at least a passing glance, along the release of Ghostbusters for, well just about everything.
I have to admit that I am cheering for a mega-hit from the game which reunites a substantial portion of the original cast for voice work, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts. With only the notable absence of Sigourney Weaver, who was presumably busy narrating a documentary about bees, it's pretty much the reunion of the Ghostbusting dream-team. With story and script by Ramis and Aykroyd, one has to assume that there will be at least a passable joke or two along the way.
But, that's not why I'm cheering for this game. I'm cheering for it because I am now a spite-filled force of resistance against the Activision machine that jettisoned Ghostbusters alongside Brütal Legend as not showing significant profit potential. And, by significant profit potential, I assume they mean it's not a game where you can whore out a dozen marginal expansions, upgrades and spin-offs every year. Marginal expansions and upgrades like, oh, Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, which allows Guitar Hero fans to buy their favorite songs all over again with a different package.
So, Ghostbusters gets my unequivocal nod for Game of the Week.

I did up some quick impressions of the 360 version of Ghostbusters, if anyone is thinking about picking it up. I'm hoping to try multiplayer tonight!

I can't recall but last night I read a quote from some game publisher honcho who literally said, "Games with a 2 in the name are more profitable." It was in a PDF that also had some sales figures and other internal numbers.
I want Ghostbusters but will wait a week or so for reviews. My initial reaction is for the 360 version but I might pick it up for the Wii instead if the Wiimote controls are solid.

You've made a fair case, sir. I stand behind your campaign.

I'd actually be very curious to read that, if you can remember where you read it and can track it down.
My Latest: I Accidentally the Whole Game Mechanic, Part 1 and Part 2 and Part 3
Doesn't that just mean that you should make the first release of a game number 2?
Ghostbusters looks interesting; I may rent it based on the write-up Certis linked to.
As the resident adventure game whore, though, Peril at End House will likely be my only purchase this week. Well, eventual purchase. It's the same developer that produced the other Agatha Christie games. And then there Were None was great; Murder on the Orient Express was more than passable. Not exactly genre-defying games, but for $20, I'm cool with that.

"Chapter 2 of the PC Game"? That's the title? They couldn't think of anything half-cute like "A Second Coming"

I think that's the title of the porn knockoff, actually.

Day one purchase for me. I will be heading over to my gamestop tomorrow and picking Ghostbusters up for sure.

I'm really interested in the magic game because I can't find enough people near by me to play the game that maybe I can find some people online to play it with.

I'm all for poking an eye at corporate malfeasance but I’m hoping America’s Army 3 reinvigorates WCGN. Some of my first and best GWJ experiences came playing Joint Operations with the crew.

I wanted to get a quick overview of the older ghostbuster video games from wikipedia, and came across this quote regarding the 1993 Gameboy game:
"This game is almost exactly the same as the game Garfield Labyrinth, except the player controls a Ghostbuster instead of Garfield."
And then I was reminded of this
I was lucky in the order,
but I've always been lucky when it comes to killin' folks.
Can I play Ghostbusters on the L4D maps?
Hehe.

Chalk me up for Magic the Gathering, but my pile's getting too big to slap ghostbusters on top of it this week. Unless I hear otherwise, it'll be a gamefly rental for me..

The second one would then be called 2 II - automatically making it the best selling game ever ever.
Also let me just remind you all who might pass it by that Flower, Sun and Rain is made by the crazy genius Suda51.

Isn't Flower, Sun and Rain a remake? If so, what's the verdict as I never played it.

I agree fully with the sentiment (I tend to not buy used games so I can reward developers for making something that I want to play), but a regrettable lack of cash flow leaves me unable to put my money where my mouth is.
I can put my pocket lint where my mouth is, but I don't think my local game store would accept that as currency.
Incidentally, if you head on over to Toys R Us in the Easter MA area, they're having a deal where you get a $20 gift card with purchase of Ghostbusters for any of the current gen systems. Those gift cards are good at Babies R Us, which makes them as good as cash for those of us with kids.

Next paycheck Steam is going to make a killing off of me. I'm elated that 'Ghostubusters' is finally out, I'm going to buy 'The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Deluxe' just because I love it so much, and I'm putting my money down on the pre-order for ArmA 2. God bless digital distribution.

From what I've read on Eurogamer, 1up, and Edge, the verdict ain't good. They've all given it terrible reviews.

Originally Japan-only PS2, then ported to Japan-only DS, and now we're getting it.
Mind that his other games have gotten very mixed reviews, which is why I think it's worth noting that it's a Suda51 game. It's kind of like a David Lynch film, or a Cure album; some people's love for the auteur will transcend the negative reviews of a particular title.
MilkmanDanimal wrote:
This is right. Basically, if you like Suda51 stuff you will get enjoyment from that (haven't tried PS2 or DS version, just read a lot of reviews). Otherwise don't bother - unless you are a collector. This might be one of the sought-after DS games in a very short time.
