Trash Panic (PS3 PSN) Catch-All
Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 - 10:00pm

About:
A puzzle game using physics where you try to cram as much trash into a blue bin (recycling?) as possible. You can smash fragile objects with heavier ones and jostle the bin around to settle the trash to the bottom. It's $4.99 plus tax in the US.

What do you think? It looks like a lot of fun to me and fits in with a lot of the physics based PSN games like Rag Doll Kung-Fu, Elefunk, and Noby Noby Boy. It also seems to be getting pretty high scores. I'm going to buy it tomorrow.

Someone explain to me how to succeed at this game. Is there really a Stage 2? I have no idea.

I picked it up, the price was certainly right. It is a very challenging game; I suck at it pretty badly
There are instructions in the game somewhere that are worth reading through.
Essentially the value on the scale in the lower right is how much garbage you need to successfully break down. As you break stuff down the amount on the scale lowers. When you hit zero you'll proceed to the next stage. Items may fly out of your bin as you try to stuff them in or shake things up. The game is over when the third non-broken down item falls out of your garbage can.
It is a lot harder than it sounds! Some items are easier to break down than others so you really need to play smart. There is a mode (forget how you kick it off) that is sort of like a training mode. It doesn't have the "boss" items so you can just play around and get a better feel for the mechanics. Putting fire and the water with the composting bacteria are really important to getting your garbage broken down.
I haven't spent a lot of time with the game yet but for $5 I think it is pretty fun. Certainly unique if nothing else!

There is an Easy mode called Sweet if you hit right after selecting mission mode. Otherwise, I'd suggest reading the in game manual since there really is no tutorial.
I finally made it to stage 4!!!
The first thing that is necessary to beat level 1 is to know that there are certain "rare items" that you shouldn't break like paintings, rings, and statues. If you do break these, you get a bunch of penalty trash and if you don't you have your reserve piece (L1) replaced by something good. You need to slowly place this item low in the bin so that the little character can remove it.
As Dreaded Gazebo mentioned, the key is organizing flammable objects in a pile and then lighting them on fire and controlling this fire, or filling up the bin with water and using the compost balls to break down objects. You can also use things like explosives with fire to break a bunch of stuff.
A tip I learned was to get a heavy item at an angle and to break lots of light items over the exposed corner. You can also decompose (I don't know why) metal objects that are otherwise difficult to break but they need to be near the compost ball. Some objects also have weak spots, such as the barbells. If you drop them sideways and then smash something into the handle, they will break in half.
I'd say the game is kind of fun, but incredibly difficult. Of the three levels I barely passed, I got the rank of "E" on all of them, which I think is the worst possible.
