Remember Me? I'm the Pile Over in the Corner

The weather is getting warmer, and outdoor activities are calling. The pool looks nice and refreshing. A good way to cool off after a hot summer's day. There's only one problem...

That would require you to go outside (in most cases). So, instead we'll turn our attention towards the growing pile of games that have gone unplayed or unfinished. Don't give in to the urge to turn your pale skin bronze. Go and play an old game and show it who's the boss.

This month's pick of the pile is

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

"The epic story of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker continues as Link finds himself lost and alone in unknown seas in a new adventure. Featuring intuitive touch-screen controls and innovative puzzles, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass offers new challenges for fans of the series and an easy-to-grasp introduction for gamers new to The Legend of Zelda. But time grows short, and only the Phantom Hourglass can buy Link the minutes he’ll need to survive. " (Nintendo)

I don't know what's going to grab my attention this month. I may breakdown and play one of the $9.99 games I picked up on the Best Buy clearance. Not sure, yet.

Pile... we hates you, preciousssss. You burns usssss.

I'm going to re-attempt Lost Odyssey this month. I'm on disc four now, so it shouldn't be too hard to take behind the shed and execute Columbian-style.

I'm jumping on Freedom Force. I picked it up on Steam for cheap and I never finished it the first time around (on disc). Good call, Nightmare.

2. Beating Mercenaries 2 on the 360

If I can do those 2, I'll consider it a good start.

I'm playing pokemon platinum. Getting a fair way through it but it's one hell of a big (read: grind) game..... I'll try and get through it this month, not like i have a job to hold me back though the weather is really nice and the DS doesn't play well with direct sunlight on the screen.

My pile game this month is Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich. Despite playing the original through 4 or 5 times, I've never actually completed the sequel. That changes this month. Right after Assassin's Creed.

I'm hoping to tackle Far Cry 2 this month. I'm not sure I want to commit to anything else, though I expect I'll start making my way through the Fallout 3 DLC.

Ohh, ohh, let me jump in on this. Beyond Good & Evil for the PC. ( Yeah, it would probably be better to play it on my 360 or something, but I already got it on Steam before I got a 360 and I need to justify the purchase. )

This month I'm going after New Super Mario Bros. Hopefully I can knock this one off while I'm playing through InFamous. I'm not sure how long it takes to play through Mario without the secret levels. If it's short, I may try and add another later.

Yeah, I played CoD4 all the way through on Hardened. Even the ferris wheel. It's just that with Gears I'm not jiving with the control scheme or the cover system. As a PC gamer, it's something I'm having to get used to.

I got up until No Fighting in the War Room on Veteran in COD4. That stumped me for about a month. I drop down to hardened and I finish the game 15 minutes later. WTF? Such a good game though. Gears isn't too bad. I beat it solo on insane. Raam is the real stopping point there. It was a mix of luck and some more luck that I finally beat him.

I'm going to say Far Cry 2 on 360. It may be an idle boast, as I've got new games incoming this month (expect to see them on next month's Pile).

I've just hit the southern area, so there's still a substantial amount to do in the game, but I'm finding I can easily spend an enjoyable hour causing mayhem without realising where all the time went.

As a secondary pile game, I'm going to say Pure. I've only just started in on it, but I reckon I can power through it in short order. It's quite fun, and a great $20 purchase.

Far Cry 2 is a lot of fun as long as you don't try to grind in it. Pop in, cause some chaos, do a mission or three, pop out. I found I stopped enjoying it if I forced myself to play it for too long. But I had a really good time with it.

I just toppled Baal, so the only unfinished game I have right now is Final Fantasy IV for the DS. It's a good game so far, but the difficulty is really grinding me down.

Nonetheless, add that in for me. Also, put up the first STALKER (meaning Shadow) game on the PC, and Alone in the Dark for the 360. That covers computer, console, and portable. I should be able to go at least 33%.

I know that I'm turning into the resident Alone in the Dark fanboy, but... I wrote up a few tips here that might help you get past the game's inability to communicate its own intentions.
