I searched and couldn't find a thread for this game, so here it is. Demo out on live. Not that I've been able to actually get the demo to work, as it freezes my 360 every time I start it up, but still.

Really enjoyed Round 3, so looking forward to this one.

Same here. There are multiple reports on Joystiq of this happening to others as well.

If you are experiencing the freezing issue, please try these steps:

• Unplug network cable
• Go to Xbox Dashboard
• Go to ‘My Xbox’
• Go to ‘System Settings’
• Go to ‘Console Settings’
• Go to ‘Clock’
• Change the ‘Date and Time’ to 2020
• Reboot the console (keep network cable unplugged)

Thats a load of crap to get a demo running - both EA and MS should be ashamed for releasing that kind of garbage.

Demo worked perfectly for me last night. I really loved Round 3, and this feels like it is going to be a fantastic upgrade. For whatever reason, I felt like I had much better control over my boxer as far as blocking and weaving. I fought with Hatton, and won the by a decison, as there were no knockdowns by either of us.

Watching the video with the demo about the new features really has me pretty excited for the full game. I need to plop Round 3 back in and finish the game up. I have 750 achievement points, and they come fast enough that i think I can get the full 1000 without much time input. Then I will sell off Round 3 for credit towards Round 4.

This has been one of my top must have games coming out, and everything about so far feel perfect. I'm not sure what kind of reception this game is ging to get this time around now the UFC is really gaining fans, and UFC Undisputed seems to have hit its mark. Nothing against MMA, as I'm sure it is a great sport, but my personal tastes still to classic boxing.

The stable for Round 4 looks pretty amazing. Was hoping for Eric "Butterbean" Esch, but he's not listed. I know he is a little more of a gimmick, but he is a really cool guy, and was fun to play with in Knockout Kings. I've also played poker with him online in both Poker Academy, and then we ended up at the same table in large multi-table tournement on Full Tilt. But the full 50 looks like there will be some fun guys to take on and play with.

The demo looks and plays well except I've one of the strong proponents of having face buttons for throwing punches. Manipulating the RS does not work well for me at all. I find it too awkward to punch effectively not to mention the sore I'm starting to develop from working it.

I was pretty impressed by the demo but Im still a little worried about the difficulty. The AI in Round 3 was FUBAR. You could set it to the hardest difficulty and put the controller down, the enemy boxer wouldn't be able to knock you down. The AI attacks better in 4, I ran the same test and was on the mat in 30 seconds, but when I'm actively fighting, I still haven't lost a round.

I'm not bragging about prowess here, I throw WAY too many punches still, it's a slight against the AI. If I rent this and don't lose a single round for the whole time, there's no way I'll buy it unless the online is STUNNING. Franchise could be cool as hell but if I can't lose, there's no point.

There's a bunch of little touches I've enjoyed. They've done a lot of work animating misses, glancing blows, partial blocks, etc. It looks like they've toned down the super-deflecto-block to set up the ultra counter punch mechanic too.

Im looking forward to it, but Ill remain skeptical till I find out about the AI. I havent lost a round in the demo yet, thats about 30 rounds worth so far.

Still hate the control scheme. Mainly, having to perform a Shoryuken to throw an uppercut and a hadoken to throw a hook.

Otherwise, the game looks great. Enjoyed beating the piss out of Hatton with Pacman.

Also, I wish more classic boxers were included in these games. Emile Griffith, Leon & Michael Spinks, Ken Norton, Larry Holmes, Floyd Patterson, Sonny Liston, Henry Armstrong, Eder Jofre, and Paul Williams...seriously, why isn't Paul Williams in there?

I bought the full game, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm 6-0 in my career, although my last fight was a 10 round slugfest that ended up in a split decision. I haven't tried the online yet, but I plan to sometime this week.

It's been getting some real positive impressions over at Operation Sports. It sounds like they really took the button mashing effect out of the game. while some are hating it, others have figured out how to drain the stamina of those 1000 punch a round guys online. The game demands that you block and and get your counter-punches down. FN3 had the same idea, but it was pretty easy to coast through your career by just slugging it out.

I know some really hate the new control scheme, and find it stiff. But this ain't Tekken. You have to think and commit to each move and block. Yes, the stick slows you down. You can't tap, tap, tap your way through a bucnh of combos. That "stiffnenss" is the game playing at a much more sim level.

I really liked the demo, but I am just trying to figure out how I can drop $60 on this game on the heals of Tiger, with NCAA, Madden, and NHL all coming up in successive months. this is a pretty good time to be a sports gamer, that's for sure.

edit: Gameshark has a pretty good review up.

Quote:
You see, when games look as good as the Fight Night series, they don’t always have a complex game holding them up. (I’d like to point you to Crysis.) That’s where Fight Night Round 4 surprised me. In the previous version, defense wasn’t REALLY that important. I’m pretty sure I won most of my fights by wailing on my right hook and being good at the weightlifting game. That’s not the case this time. Round 4 is a much more rewarding experience if you take the time to study opponents and learn different techniques to defeat them. Whereas Fight Night Round 3 was pure action, Fight Night Round 4 borders on strategy gaming.

Each fighter, once in the ring, has 3 important stat meters – Health, Stamina and Block. Health and Stamina are pretty straightforward, as one is your physical constitution while the other is how “winded” your fighter becomes, which effects the power level of his punches. The block statistic takes into account how long a fighter has been blocking and the strength of that block. The longer a block is held, the lower the coverage will slide, as well as being lowered by blocked punches, until more punches are getting through than being deflected. Each hit has a chance to break through that block and do a bit of glancing damage. This way, if you fight a “turtle,” you have a chance to make him drop his hands to recharge his block.

I really like the the more strategic elements they have added to the game.

So did they fully commit to the stick-based control scheme? I was annoyed with FNR3's cop-out of keeping the button-push scheme included, which was ultimately faster than using the stick, and as such was a competitive advantage in multiplay (I used a hybrid button/stick scheme, but really just out of necessity because otherwise it was hell trying to match the jabbing of a button-masher).

I like the sound of the 3 stat meters. I see they cut John Ruiz from the roster - that would have required adding a "Bear Hug" meter.

My understanding is that only the stick is available online.

edit: Looks like buttons are out in the entire game. Is that right?

It's true that only the "signature punch" of a boxer can be thrown from the face buttons.

I have some issues with the controls in this game: it seems like the sensitivity to detecting the trigger pulls (for dodging and blocking modifiers) isn't high enough. It requires you to pull the triggers too far down to register. So, I find myself often throwing a jab when I'm trying to block or dodge. Sure, blocking should take some time, but if that's the justification, it should just not do anything rather than throwing another punch or two.

Also, is it me or can you punch *too* fast with the stick...fast enough that you outpace the punches your boxer throws. This seems to put a punch or two in an unstoppable queue, so that you're not throwing punches when you hit the stick, and you don't have the ability to cancel those extra punches in case you're getting blocked.

I haven't spent that much time with the game yet...I don't really dig the controls right now, but maybe as I become more comfortable with them, they'll grow on me. Definitely glad I rented, right now.

Oh, and they should fire some text editor for letting one of the hints misuse "affects" in place of "effects."

I just got this game as a late Christmas present. I've played through a bit, and it seems to be a nice improvement over FNR3. It's going to take some work to really get down all of the techniques and strategy. I still have a tendency to just punch myself out, but the game does seem to penalize you for that.

EA Sports really did have just an amazing year. Tiger Woods 10, NHL 10, and recently Madden 10 have aqll exceeded my expectations. I'm glad I finally got a chance to take FNR4 in.

And I love the stick mechanics in this game. I think they really do a lot to help the player get immersed into the action.

I ran into this, as well. But what I think it does is force you to be much more methodical about your strategy. I've only used heavyweights, so I really needed the game to force me to slow down. I'm not sure how this will feel with the lighter weights.

Career for me.

PROTIP: Don't always do the bare minimum training before fights. I was undefeated up to a point until my boxer was just too weak to damage my opponents, even though I was largely out-boxing the CPU (at least until late rounds, when damage started to take its toll, but only on my boxer).

Now I need to do a crap-ton of training before every fight, to try and get back up to a level of physical ability on par with the opponents I'm facing.

I made a created boxer for the online thing, but I only use him against other created boxers. To even the playing field.

The thing is I've seen guys who mostly give their guys 100 chin and 100 power and they make them impossibly tall, so the regular default boxers are in trouble against them.

Other than that I use Mike Tyson, he's awesome
