2009 NC area GWJ Meet-up - Sunday July 5th - And done!
Details from RedJen:
Q&A:
Where? - RedJen's house in North Raleigh, NC (I'll send details via PM to the people who are coming the week before)

Alcohol - Anyone over 21 is welcome to drink in my home. Anyone drinking to excess will require a DD or PJ's.

Good lord, I wouldn't have expected brilliance like that from that nemeslut Quintin Stone!

The in-laws are leaving Cary for Kill Devil Hills this summer (visiting the beach will be a major upgrade to endless loops on Maynard) but if the stars align I might be able to make a triangle gathering.
The mountains would offer cooler weather and fun out door activities but alas, the Casa de Ferret is not large enough for any kind of gathering.

And I'll say, I'm not opposed to having one somewhere other than RTP, even though that seems to be the place with the highest GWJ density. However, if we're going to even consider holding it somewhere other than RTP, we'd need someone local to the proposed area to run point on picking a venue.

This is probably a long shot, given many of us have an aversion to the great light in the sky but if camping is of any interest then I would recommend the following: http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/cataloochee.htm
It is roughly an hour west of Asheville. Fun nearby distractions would include: http://www.verticalwind.com/aac.html and http://www.alleneasler.com/slidingrock.html though one could easily fill up a couple of days near the campground.
If anyone happens to have an RV, we could still get our Rock Band fix.

I like camping. RV or not.

On the other hand you absolutely hate the great light in the sky.

I'm willing to go as far as Morrisville. Maybe Apex, but only if there's nudity.

The kind of nudity you'll find in Apex, you don't want.

Camping would be interesting, and RTP would be obviously convenient for me. As for times, we have no objections to any of Yellek's times so far.

Oh God, that was not a place to google at work.
Although I think we have a winner!

Now we just have to try to get Yellek on board.

I'm willing to play hostess as long as we have an alternate location in the unlikely event that I'm moving that exact weekend.
* This shouldn't be a problem, since you rarely see closings on the weekend around here. Not to mention that since I want to move, the housing market went crash.

I prefer the 5th of July because of the obvious familial obligations on the 4th, blowing off fingers with M80s and whatnot.
I don't mind a person's house, ala RedJen's, as long as it has a working grill and electricity.

I talked to my parents. They are going to be in town the weekend of the 4th. I'm going to make plans to be in Raleigh that weekend. There WILL be a S&T, if you want to have another, more formal one another time, that's cool, but I demand slapping and tickling!

Would be great to meet some of you, but alas...I have a 15 month-old AND a 2 week-old at home. I'm afraid I won't be getting out of the house for 18 years.
Pass the grog.
I sure hope the power doesn't go out this time.

I was fine with it. Not sure about the people I was groping though.

I just spent the weekend in the mountains up-trail from that camp site. Very pretty, and the weather was wonderful. I waved at the happy campers grilling hot dogs next to their RVs as I walked past with 60 pounds on my back and a nice, freeze-dried meal to look forward to several miles down the trail.

Awesome, did you do the Boogerman? http://hikingthecarolinas.com/Boogerman.php Any pictures?
If you make it back here let me know, I am close to several other great trails including Cold Mountain, and you can finish any weekend hike with a trip to Joey's pancake house.

How does the afternoon of Sunday July 5th in North Raleigh work for people?
Grill - yes
Electricity - I'm on a hospital node, so even when it does go out, it isn't out very long. When we had the big ice storm that took out all the electricity for NC for weeks in some cases, I had power by the afternoon of the next day. (The ice storm was Thursday night and I had power Friday afternoon.)
