I''ve tried cigars, but I just don''t like them much. I''ve tried a few different ones, but they all really just seem the same to me.

To be honest though I''ve moved over to smoking a pipe over the last year more than cigars. Sounds corny I know, but I find I really enjoy it. There''s a serious art to smoking a pipe the right way, and I''m only starting to get the hang of it.

I''ve recently been trying to phase out cigarettes in favor of the occasional cigar... I''ve always been a pretty light smoker, about a pack a week, but I figure a cigar or two a week instead might be a little less bad for me since I''m just not willing to quit entirely. So far I really like Ashton Cabinet amd Avo XO.
I used to smoke a few cigars a week, but quit when our first kid was born. Now I just smoke them on special occasions. For a recent event, my brother gave me a Padron 1964 Anniversary maduro. Oh goodness, that was the best cigar I''ve ever had, even better than the Cohibas I''ve had. It stayed good, too, and I smoked it down to a little nub without it turning bitter.

After five years or so of not touching the stuff, I finally re-jumped back on the cigar bandwagon thanks to a sh*tload of freebies my dad picked up at a CigarBQ last weekend. Anyon ever had one called a Dona Fior (sp?)? Man, totally blew the stuff I used to smoke out of the water. I'm definitely looking forward to the family smoker's lounge for the big Hawaii trip.

I used to smoke Swisher Sweets in high school. Ahh the memories. A pack of Swishers and a bottle of Vodka down at the dam, skipping school and hanging out. Thems were the days.

Just so we're not working on false assumptions here, you may want to limit that to one a week to keep things even:
Quote:
In fact, some premium cigars contain the tobacco equivalent of an entire pack of cigarettes. The concentration of toxins and irritants is higher in cigar smoke than in cigarette smoke. The larger size of cigars and the longer time it takes to smoke them also increases a cigar smoker's exposure to toxins.
The difference between cigarettes and cigars, sheared, is that cigar smoke is not inhaled, merely puffed. While some smoke does end up going down the pipe, it's nowhere near the same volume that you get from a cigarette. The real trouble with cigars is that it dramatically increases the odds of one getting mouth cancer.

After much deliberation, reflection, and fear of public mockery, I've decided to come out of the "I hate cigars" closet. I really wanted to like them, I did. They're really handy on the golf course because they keep gnats away, and they're fun to smoke. The first half of a cigar is always good, though finding a difference in quality among them eludes my palette. The second half of a cigar always makes me a little green in the gills, which if I'm golfing, playing cards, or otherwise drinking, doesn't help toward a healthy night for me. But the real problem is the next day. Can't get the ashtray taste out of my mouth, and holy hell does it make me ill.
Just this weekend, my wife and I were at a friend's house, and out came the cigars. They were nice ones, from what I understand. Everyone started in on them, except me. I disclosed my newly-defined personality trait to them, which was met with brief mockery. Imagine my smugness when I woke up the next morning, fresh as a daisy -- and my wife and her friend were sick as dogs. That is, dogs that had smoked cigars the night before and were now hurling.
I generated a virtual world in the toilet bowl this morning.

Smoked my first cuban on Friday, and man, that was tasty indeed
If anyone has gotten interested in very strongly flavored cigars, as I have, I highly recommend La Flor de Dominca Double Ligero Maduros... just awesome. And the Punch Rare Corojo line is some of the best cheap ($3-$4 ea) cigars I've tried.
While I'm more of a pipe smoker myself (some of my collection here--> ( photos.yahoo.com/briarcub ) ) I do appreciate a good cigar. One of my favorite cigars in the lower-end range is the Carlos Toraños 'The Brick,' which comes in a Churchill (7x56) and Bellicoso (6x52) variety...under $2 each and every bit as flavorful as the rest of the Toraños line, imho.

Curiously (or perhaps, not so curiously) enough, over the past ten years or so, I've found I'm much more likely to encounter other gamers at pipe cons than to encounter other pipe smokers at game cons

Are there any good tobacco shops in your area? If you live in a sizable metropolitan area, you should be able to find a real tobacconist who can assist you and point you in the right direction.
Of course, what would be really nice is a combination pipe/game shop, but then I'd never want to leave, so perhaps it's for the best
