System: PS3
Developer: Naughty Dog
Release: Oct 13 2009

The public beta is now live!

Sony has released a new video of the single player. Looks like there is a lot of refinement that's been added since the last one, plus a whole lot of visual upgrade. Consider me hyped.

1Up has also done a hands-on multiplayer preview, as I'm sure others have too.

New E3 SP Trailer from Gametrailers.

The game is still months from release, but yeah, it's looking mighty fine. I think I'm gonna dig the multiplayer too.

I loved the first and am definitely psyched for this. Naughty Dog did an amazing job with Uncharted and it's still one of the best next-gen games to date imo!

I'm stoked as well. I can't envision a world in which pulling dudes off rooftops isn't fun. And I'm absurdly excited that apparently Claudia Black voices the co-op partner. Trapped in an intense firefight while Claudia Black covers me and shouts about how much I suck? Someone's been spying on my dreams.

First one was awesome sauce. Just making more precisely like it would have made me giddy. This looks fantastic.

Wow, I've never even played the first Uncharted and I think this looks incredible! I really like the hand-to-hand combat animations and Drake's throwaway comments.

Loved the first one, and I'm really looking forward to playing this too. That's another entry on the list of games I'm excited for ever since I read a preview in Edge.

The first game was excellent, but the combat didn't hold up its end of the bargain. The waves and waves of generic enemies were just tedious, filler in-between the excellent 3D platforming and story elements.

Fewer, more interesting enemies please. And combat that involves being clever and not merely shooting everyone in the head would be nice too. The whole hand-to-hand thing was really wasted in the first game, as it rarely made sense to go close combat when there's four other guys nearby lighting you up with bullets while you do it.

I just replayed a bit of the first one. I think my main complaint about the combat was the control. It felt really hard to aim at enemies.

I should really finish it. I'm on the Bunker chapter, and I suspect that I've been roughly a half hour from the end for the last 6 months.

I agree with the comments regarding the combat but the other game elements more than made up for the generic enemies and mediorce shooting mechanics.

It is like Gears of War with climbing! I know they wanted to show of the "action" but it really does look more like a shooter. That was my biggest grip with the first game too.

Maybe (hopefully?) multiplayer is different from the single-player campaign.

I have one of the multiplayer beta codes (packaged with inFamous) that I'm not sure I want to use, if anybody's interested.

I just attributed that to the PS3 controller. The sticks just feel too loose.

I did the keep it option with Infamous from Gamefly. Hopefully when the box ships it will have the beta key in it.

I hope the game is good, but I hated the "Nate vs. helicopter" sequence of the press conference demo.

I was hoping they would go in the exact opposite direction. More platforming and maybe combat based around wits (which would fit the character) instead of action hero nonsense (which doesn't).

The thought of spending MORE time shimmying along cliff faces and climbing rock patterns doesn't exactly thrill me either. I thought the pacing of the first game was pretty even, so maintaining that would be nice. I can't imagine they would want to spend much time demoing various puzzles/exploring on stage during a press conference. We need the 'splosions!

I heard that they were keeping Elysium in the ICU not because he needed intensive care, but because they needed to be careful of his intensity. - Wordsmythe

I wasn't too pleased with the heavy-action elements but can overlook this "flaw" because of the very crisp animations, voice-acting, and environments. I think one of the problems with Uncharted's perception is that many players are treating it as Tomb Raider's definitive replacement and expecting Nate to be a solving insane puzzles and fighting animals and creatures in dangerous locales. It does have some of these elements but Naughty Dog is seems to be more focused on action and combat. Here's to hoping there's much more exploration than we've been led to believe.

Early MP demo impressions:

The Good:

Beautiful!!
Amazing Level of Detail
Smooth Gameplay
Audio spot on
Fluid controls and cover system
Scalable environments

The Bad:

No explanation of the game modes
Lobbies reset after every game
No character selection (played a game with 4 other Nate Drake's)
No crouch or prone positions
No destructibility in the environments
Mic Issues
Weapons EVERYWHERE (a bit excessive)

Three-player co-op is pretty f'ing awesome. You can change from competitive to cooperative at the beginning of the lobby.

If the multiplayer ends up being anything like the closed beta/e3 demo it sucks a pucker. Wish they had cut it and focused their effort on a single player game.
