In the spirit of the counter-action to the current doom, gloom, and job-loss dominated economic environment, I propose that we begin putting the word out about the opportunities that still may come up in our workplaces, so as to help fellow goojers who're out of work for now.

To get the ball rolling, I am willing to divulge that my company is going to be hiring DBAs and Solaris & Windows SAs in Raleigh/Durham area (Research Triangle Park). Those interested please follow up with me for details.

Seriously though, I work for Merrill Lynch/Bank of America in NJ and there are quite a few jobs available. Here's a link to our Careers page and I can definitely help with referrals and getting resumes submitted if anyone is interested. PM me or email me at 93_confirmed@comcast.net .

Ditto. You might not necessarily know it from the news, but rates are so low there is a refinance boom going on in mortgage. If you have some experience (or even solid sales experience in other industries), it'd be worth checking out - esp for folks either in Charlotte NC, or Jacksonville FL.

I live in Mexico so any job referral will probably only help Mex and vice versa; but if anyone wants a bit of help with their CVs and resumes, I'm more than glad to help make sure your abilities sound marketable.

Also, there's a bunch of webpages offering advice, but if one is true, is this; always write your resume focused on a particular opening you're applying for. Generic resume's will usually get passed on.

Also, I know RIM (Blackberry) was looking for a product manager about a month or two ago. Let me ask for the job opportunity site.

Thanks for the tip. I've submitted for an EE position. Background check shouldn't be a problem-- my entire criminal history consists of a single parking ticket that I paid within a week. If that disqualifies me, I wouldn't want to work there anyway.

Wish me luck. My severance ran out last week.

I was downsized back in january, so far have been working on sparse freelance tidbits here and there. Poly-modelling market in Venezuela is stamp-sized. I still have to put together a decent demoreel but between gigs it's been a bit difficult to find the time/inspiration. I'll look into the linkedin group though, sounds like a good idea.

I got this today from a recruiter friend of mine. PM me if you want more information.

Here is a summary on the opportunity for which we are searching. It is S.
Cal, just north of the LA area. Feel free to fwd this along, to anyone that
should know.

DIRECTOR OF IT-S. California
We are looking for a strategic, forward thinker that will oversee all IT for this $18M collection agency and its 3 calling locations. Great opportunity to impact and facilitate technology upgrades for a collection agency, that has grown steadily (including 35% in the last year.) Director of IT will oversee staff of 5 and some outsource relationships. CUBS, D3 & LINUX, networking and infrastructure knowledge are pluses, as well as security and encryption. MUST have collection industry experience and have managed a team in the past. Modest relocation assistance available. This is a
low-mid $100Ks opportunity.

Always vigilant, and dies in the end

Now, a friend, by sheer lapse of judgement, forwarded me a position description he got from a recruiter (who, in turn, sent it to him by sheer lapse of judgement) -- it's for a VP of NA-region IT at Take Two. A very senior position. Any takers?

I'm kind of an all purpose EE-- my last job was as an applications engineer, which is a fancy way of saying "jack of all trades." I was in the automated test industry, so I've got a fair amount of experience in a lab environment. I've also done a fair amount of RF digital design work, but once you've routed a 12GHz signal four inches while maintaining signal integrity, you can pretty much do any digital or analog designing. I'm also pretty good with a soldering iron and I don't shy away from doing technician work when it's called for, which in my experience is rare among electrical engineers.

I'm looking primarily in the northeast-- Pretty much all of New England, eastern NY, eastern PA, and the entire states of New Jersey and Delaware. Basically I'm trying to keep within reasonable driving distance of my kids' grandparents.

If you've heard about anything you think I might be good for, shoot me a PM. I'd really appreciate it.

If you haven't already, check out www.thinkenergygroup.com, they maintain a good listing of engineering/power industry jobs. Looks like they might have a few things that cater to your interests. If I hear of anything specific, I'll be sure to let you know. My company does have several facilities in that area, but I don't see anything open other than supervisory positions right now.
