Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad (RO2)
I saw this on the Tripwire Interactive forums today...
Official First Statement on Red Orchestra: Heroes of StalingradOk, here is the official statement on the game for now. Yes there is an article about our new UE3 game Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad in the UK and US PC Gamer magazines. Frankly, we're more than a bit surprised at the timing of the release of the article. To put it quite bluntly we thought this would hit after the release of Killing Floor. As such we'll be doing a bit of a scramble to get our PR efforts in order while we are in the middle of getting another game ready to ship.
I know many of you have been waiting a very long time for this news, and I am very happy that we can finally confirm what we've been working on these past three years. RO:HOS (as we call it) is real, its using UE3, and its awesome Just bear with us while we recover from this unexpected announcement and in the immortal words of Battlestar Galactica - all will be revealed.
For now, we're not going to say anything else about the game. We'll let the article speak for itself. As Alan mentioned please don't post scans of the article on this forum. Additionally, please don't post quotes of text from the article on these forums. Our proper PR effort will begin in earnest soon, so you'll get more from us on that in the coming days.

Let me be the first to say: WOO!

Awesome news!! The first one is great!

Doesn't seem that they fixed the bug wherein I'm terrible at the game. Luckily, it never much affected my ability to have fun with the original
Color me red with interest!
Btw, what's this Gamescom in Cologne? Are they trying to upstage Leipzig?

Well that's odd, and kind of stinks - former East Germany needs all the economic help it can get, and the convention leaving Leipzig is a pretty big blow.
Thanks for the info.
Now back on track: Red Orchestra HOS - yummy!

Nice find Edwin!
Interesting news about the implementation of a bullet penetration system and weapon collisions with the environment. The bipod machine gun deployment and view appears to be a marked improvement over the first game's deployment system. There was nothing more frustrating than trying to deploy your DP-28 just right.

T-t-triple post!
I loved the original mod, but never got into the actual release. Since I play all my mp shooters on hardcore, I'm sure what I loved about the original mod is still in play now, so I'm interested in this.
Any idea of the release window? Like, recent news about when it's hitting shelves? I'm seeing anywhere from Q4 2010 to Summer 2011.

Man, those look great!
I hope they add some really good bots, as I never got into the online scene of the original, but would still love to enjoy the sequel.

Nothing concrete it seems. 1C Company, the game's publisher in Europe, currently lists a release date of Q2 2011:

The game looks fantastic, I love the mechanics they've put - something I've wanted since CS. One thing puts me off, though, and that's the setting. At this point I'm fed up with WW2 games, they all feel the same. Yes, you can improve mechanics, authenticity and realism but the core gameplay is the same and that's because of the weapons at your disposal. They are quite limiting and you can't really do too much with them. I much prefer the dynamics/feel of the modern weapons, post 70s, they fit a wider range of players and styles while also impose less limits on the developers to come up with great new tweaks that will make the experience feel fresh.
To me all the great things they do feel wasted because I probably won't be buying this and I think most of the people will do the same - if not, at least they are limiting their customer base a lot more by not going slightly more modern. For example, put all those things into a CoD game and the result will rape both CoD and Battlefield out of the water, imo.
And for those who haven't seen them, there are a few newer videos than those posted so far (from GC)

Tagging.
Edit: Those videos look pretty good. Maybe this team and Bohemia Interactive (Arma 2) should get together. I prefer the more modern setting in Arma 2, but I'm interested in anything that adds more "realistic" combat in open environments since Arma 2 doesn't play well on my machine. On the other hand, RO2 seems more geared towards multiplayer. This game is definitely on my radar, now, though.

I like the way this sounds. A shame it will likely go unnoticed by the vast majority of gamers who claim they want what it's offering.
I want what they're offering. And I'm actually kinda happy to go back to WWII's weapons. Everything is modern now and that's becoming passé for me.

I don't believe it. I truly don't believe it. I was starting to think this was falling to next year.
Btw, if anyone wants to gift me the game, it's been on the top of my Steam wishlist for a while now. Now that you're able to actually buy it for me, feel free to do so.
Edit: Dammit, you can't buy it on Steam yet. But when you can ...

Cautiously optimistic. The game's still too realistic ("hardcore") for my liking, but all the new mechanics they've been talking about sound great. I'll be waiting for more media, but preferably a beta.
