Afro Samurai catch-all

It's getting fair to middling reviews, but it looks like it might be a spiritual successor to God Hand in some ways.
I did a little research, and I'll probably be skipping it on account of the strippers, unless it turns out they're ignorable or not as bad as I'm picturing in my head. (I stopped buying games featuring gratuitous nudity a few years back because I was sick of games that thought I wanted a peep show every time I wanted to make things explode).
Anyone played it or thinking of playing it?

I think doubtingthomas makes a number of good points there. I don't need to re-hash them.

I have this in my Gamefly queue, but it's on very low availability so I probably won't be able to post my thoughts on it for a while. I had not even heard of strippers in this game. It's surprising since the only nudity in the series that I can recall was in the second episode, and even that wasn't too bad.
Lobster Mobster:I find that f*cking a nice stinky cheese is an experience everyone should have at least once in their life.
All I know for sure is that I read there were topless strippers in the game. I'd like to know more, because the game itself sounds like fun but I've been trying to not reward the "lets throw some boobs in and sell more copies to people who are too insecure to buy pr0n" mindset a lot of developers seem to have.
They might just be in the background somewhere, not intrusive at all and readily ignorable by an old prude like myself. But I'm not going to bring the game into my house to find out.

You can see video of the strippers here: NSFW kombo article. I don't know if they're a recurring enemy or just in one location, but they're certainly not in the background or very ignorable. I was curious about this game, but, like Thomas, I'll probably skip this one because of the nudity.

I'm all for boobs in games, and on the family hour on T.V., and just about everywhere. Except for the ones in Soul Caliber which are just kind of ugly and misshapen like first generation 80s Silicone breast implants.
Although I'm just going to wait and pick this up used for $19 on Amazon in six months. I thought about GameFly but I've tried it three times in two separate States and its never worked out for me. And a six hour button masher isn't worth paying $60 for.

They're restricted to one area of the game, not recurring. Honestly, they were weird enough that it didn't really feel too gratuitous within the context of the overall story.
I'll be talking about this on the show this week. The short version is that it's so easy you don't really need to perform any of the awesome combos they unlock for you. On the other hand, there are bosses that suddenly demand the full compliment near the end of the (short) game. As a game it's repetitive and uneven and as a story it's truncated and confusing. Well written and well acted, but it assumes a lot of foreknowledge as it retells the story.
So it's not really fully satisfying gamers OR fans in many ways. Not sure who this serves but it definitely got me more interested in the anime.
Before you can respond to this though, you must collect 12 donkey rectums. - Pyroman[FO] deflating all arguments.
Seeing that there are teddy bear ninjas, I am now interested in the anime, at least.
If that's the case, I might skip it regardless of the stripper issue (Thanks for the video adam-- I'll watch it when I get home). I liked the fact that God Hand was (as the game promos said) "ball bustingly hard." Because it was fair difficulty, not just cheap.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is in my queue (christmas present). From what I've heard, I'll have all the ball-busting I need from that one. Still, NGS doesn't have the quirkiness that sucked me into God Hand. I like a good beat-em-up that doesn't take itself too seriously.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Afro Samurai. You haven't steered me wrong on a game yet.
EDIT:
Yeah, so I just watched the video. This one is a definite pass for me.
I don't know why they have to do that. As if the game wouldn't have been fun without sneaking some pr0n into it for people who don't have the guts to just buy a girlie magazine.
Pfui.

I'm not an anime fan by in large but I like the series alot. I get the impression the T.V. series was kind of made with this in mind. Worth picking up on iTunes for $9

Ouch + Sadness. I was looking forward to this game. I only recently found out that this game is based on a pre-existing series, which somehow became a downer for me; I'm not anti-anime per sé, but not really a fan.
I've heard Certi's opinions on games over the last few months and we seem to see eye-to-eye on a few games. Seems I'll wait 6 months for this game to drop in price too.

The game seems geared towards fans of the Anime. They don't provide much background in the game, and it doesn't demand you do the combos as Certis said. If you're just looking to beat the game, it's pretty easy. People should probably watch the anime first and see if they like that before they play the game. The original show is only a few hours long I think.
The first season is two and a half hours (give or take) and the second "season" / T.V. Movie, Afro Samurai Resurrection is an hour and forty minutes.
(Plenty of blood and some boobies so sensitive folks may wish to avoid)

Just played the demo, and I definitely recommend everyone do the same. It's on Xbox Live and PSN. It has plenty of gratuitous cursing, but no nudity. I found the music, inspired by RZA, coupled with the action to be quite fun. First time through I tried the make you're own combo's route.
X = light attack
Y = strong attack
B = kick
A = jump
So, mostly hit X with the occasional Y or B.
Second time through I looked through the combo list and picked out a few to try. I was largely unable to perform the combos and died pretty frequently. After each death I had to rewatch a cutscene, which while short, was annoying. I felt similar to the fighting in this game as in Assassin's Creed. All you need to do is something simple; in this game, mash X, and in Assassin's creed wait for counters, but if you want, you can go for the deeper combat. The problem I had with both is that you're so punished by trying the more complex methods that I am pretty much forced to take the easy and boring route.
Because of this, I don't really want to play more than what the demo offers. I did really like the music, and I think everyone should check out the demo just for that.
