Mona The Assassin - Max Payne 2 Mod
I had the pleasure of playing a new mod for Max Payne 2. It's about two hours worth of new levels made by some of the guys who actually worked on the original game. You play as Mona (surprise) and there's even a super hot shower scene. Aside from a sound glitch in the first couple levels, it's pretty polished and there's even a little voice acting. If you still have Max Payne 2, it's worth playing!
What's really impressed me is how well the game has held up both graphically and in terms of controls. It's still really fun diving around and shooting dudes in slow motion. No widescreen support, but it was a different time.
Max Payne 2 is on Steam for $9.99 or $15 if you add the original game too. Great price for those games.

Yeah, Max Payne was pretty excellent. I'm surprised people are still making mods for it, especially guys from the team that made it. The story was so freakin' good back then, I loved that game. And then I'd get to the obnoxious dream levels and keep falling, and then rage quit

Sold! I've always loved the series, enough to torture myself by watching the movie. I'll flag this one to play when I need a break from my current slate of emotionally painful games.
Are you sure you're not talking about the original Max Payne? The only obnoxious dream level was the blood maze - the dream levels in MP2 were actually pretty straightforward.

Yeah, the annoying dream sequences were in the first one. Sorry if I wasn't clear

Oh I like new Max Payne levels, sold.

I actually had to shut the sound off on one of the dream levels. The extended screaming baby sound effect really unnerved me.
Yeah, I'm a sissy. I can't watch movies where something awful happens to a character that you hear but don't see. My imagination gets kicked into overdrive and I have nightmares about what's really going on.
I skipped MP2 because I didn't like the first one enough to put up with all that again. I'd consider picking MP2 up if I had any money in the budget for entertainment.

I'm always looking for an excuse to reinstall Max Payne 2!

I know it will take me more time to find this game in my house than to just buy it on steam and know where it is as long as Valve is in business. Stupid physical media!

Aw, I just uninstalled it a little while ago.
Where'd I put that f*cking CD?!

Sounds intriguing. Now I need to decide if digging through all my old discs is worth less than throwing $10 at Steam. I wonder if the add-on can be considered canon? More so than the movie, surely.

I think it might actually be considered a prequel, but I don't remember the specifics of how the original Max Payne 2 plot rolled out.

I loved Max Payne 2, I might check this out when I get a chance. At what point do I just start having Steam deductions from my Paycheck?
I think the last version I played was on the original Xbox.. or something.. hmm..

Having played it just now, it's more likely a prequel than a sequel, depending on which ending of Max Payne 2 is the "real" one. It doesn't matter anyway, because the add-on has no plot. But it does have some nice set pieces, and lots of exploding barrels and gas cans, breakable bottles, shootdodge, etc. It's true, the controls and Destructable Environments(TM) are still loads of fun, even after all these years. The cars look really blocky, though.
You'd be really disappointed. Super hot shower scene, indeed.

Max Payne 2 is a game that I've played through twice now, and the only game I've played so far that I look forward to playing a third time.
