In another thread we discussed multitasking while gaming. Here's a site with about 13 years of broadcasts from Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, going back to 1996. It has funny and mellow moments, definitely worth a listen while gaming.

Do they have the complete show in those archives? I was under the impression they couldn't post full shows due to licensing restrictions with the music.

I do like the show, though. I'm a big fan of storytelling, and Keillor's dramas and News From Lake Woebegon are some of my favorites.

Yes its the 1 hour 59 minute show. Commercial free, except for the on-air ones. I'm slowly working my way through 1996.

The show brought to you by Powdermilk Biscuits and the Ketchup Advisory Board? Naw, never heard of it.

I don't particularly like the country/folk music that the show favors, but, dang, Mr. Keillor and his writers can spin a nice tale.

I'm also a huge fan of "Whad'Ya Know?"

There are times when I really enjoy it, but it's pretty hit-or-miss for me. If I tune in during a Lake Wobegon monologue, or one of the detective skits, I'll usually stick around for the duration, but most of the rest of the show gives me a strong urge to see what's on the other stations.

I love the annual joke shows. They are so corny and wonderful.

There's a joke book that came out of those shows, my mother got it for my son this Christmas. Some very funny jokes in there.

I like a lot about the show, mostly the monologues and skits. I usually catch part of it every Saturday.

I've been subscribed to the News from Lake Wobegon podcast for a couple years ago. It can be hit or miss, but mostly hit.

This is the show that kept me from getting a BA in English. I just didn't feel like writing commercials for ketchup.

Prairie Home Companion has gotten me through some very long car trips. I adore the Guy Noir skits.

This show is pretty much just distilled comfort to me. Many have been the times I've been driving along, stressed and worried, and had my whole day turned around because Prairie Home Companion was on. I also enjoyed the movie, thought that may have largely been because I like the radio show so much. I mentioned to a coworker that I enjoyed it and her response was "Wow... you're kinda boring, aren't you?".

Yeah you don't expect to hear any Mountain Dew or Axe body spray commercials during the broadcast. But boring? Some of the music is a bit stuffy for my taste, but for me the slow pace of life in Lake Wobegon is the appeal. Its kind of like checking in on a northern version of Mayberry.

I love Prairie Home Companion. My wife, on the other hand, absolutely hates it and whines any time I have it on in the car when we're out on the weekends. Having it in digital format to listen to at my leisure will definitely help. As for the movie? Didn't do it for me. I'd rather just watch an actual broadcast of theirs. When I was a kid I used to watch it on either Disney or the public broadcast channel, I can't recall. I wonder if they still air those?

Is it wrong that I just discovered this program two days ago? I was riding back from Chicago with the inlaws and was pretending to sleep in the back of the van. When they stopped on NPR and started listening, all I could do was hope that they didn't change the channel. I learned later that they had a collection of "News" pieces at the house. Listened to them the next day. Though, I think If Garrison were to read me a bed time story I'd be out in no time.

I've enjoyed Prairie Home Companion since he would turn it on in the car when I was a kid. I don't listen particularly regularly, but it is certainly good radio that I will listen to whenever I notice it's on. I also watched the movie in the theater and I walked away from it with a feeling of "Well, I enjoyed most of it, but it was just kind of strange." My dad pointed out that that is a similar feeling he gets every time he listens to the radio program.

I haven't heard it in a really long time, but I always enjoyed it when I did. I think that you have to be from part of the middle of the country to 'get it'.

I've never listened to it, but I've read all the books. Now it looks like I'll get a chance. Thanks for the link. Garrison has also written a couple other books and they are great too if you like that style. Love, Me is just awesome.
