360: 4 Player Split-Screen over System Link
Friday, December 5th, 2008 - 10:15am
I know I've probably asked this before.. but other than Halo 3, which allows for a couple boxes to be system-linked and have split-screen on each box, what other games are there?
You'd think COD4, which allows 4 players split-screen on one box would let you system link at the same time. Nope! Kinda boggles the mind.
I know it's kind of a niche thing to want to do, but sometimes, just sometimes, you have 6 people over instead of 4, and you totally all want to play at the same time ![]()
Thanks in advance.

It drives me crazy when games let you split screen and go online but not system link. Assuming all your system have Live accounts you could just play online anyway. We've run into the same situation before and it is just silly. Really irritates me that you can do split screen coop with the Rainbow Six Vegas games but not system link... that's the one we've wanted to play most.
Perfect Dark Zero supports split screen system link. I believe the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games do as well. Other than Halo 3 nothing else really comes to mind.

Yeah that's what I thought, I remember PD0 and GRAW, but cmon, that was years ago!
We do have a few live accounts, so maybe let me re-phrase that. What games also allow split-screen of up to 4 on each box, over Xbox Live? Does COD4 do that over Live? Does COD5?

Age of Booty! Although you really only want 2 per box, otherwise the screen starts getting veeeeery cluttered.

I'm pretty sure Unreal Tournament 3 (360 version) supports split-screen for local, system link, and online. I haven't tried it myself though.

The only COD that allows guest accounts on live was COD3 if I recall correctly.
I think you are stuck with the ones you have already mentioned. Rainbow Six also suffered from the same problem. It allowed for 4 player co-op but for some reason you couldn't system link or go on Live in split screen mode.
Unfortunately most of the people that play in the split screen modes aren't the same "hardcore" people that post on official forums. This is especially noticeable in forum posts / polls where players will create petitions for developers to not include split screen modes. I have seen these in COD, SOCOM, & RBSV forums. Don't ask me why.
Apparently only Bungie realizes that the Halo's social aspects were a factor to its rapid commercial success.
Edit: I should add that Gears 1 & 2 work well with split-screen on LAN and Live but are limited to 2 players per box. <--- Horde mode on a LAN is a ton of fun.

Good idea, Horde mode wouldn't be bad with 4 players (2 boxes). 2v2 games are kinda weak, but 4 player co-op Horde would be a lot of fun.

It does not disappoint. If you have more then 4, just do a rotation, or have the guy who dies first give up his controller.

I'm not sure if it's actually supported, but four-player Left 4 Dead across two boxes (since it only does two-player split-screen) would be awesome.

Hmm, that does sound good. I already have it for the PC, but once that sucker hits the discount bins that will be one helluva time with a couple boxes in the same room.
That way you can literally see people freak out in person instead of through a headset. Woot!

Wow, that WOULD be pretty fun. My wife and I could play couples with my friend and his wife.
I'm just not holding my breath for a price-break any time soon. :-/

I was really hoping that Mercs 2 would have a split screen option, as well. It's not like it is exactly pushing the PS3 or 360 very hard, is it?
Sadly, no.
Me and the BF would play a lot of games together, and it always sucked when we both had to bring our 360s, and log into live in order to play two player games together. Seems ridiculous.

Just wanted to note that both Left 4 Dead 2 and the original Left 4 Dead (at least Game of the Year edition, original to I bet) do support system link split screen for 4 players on two Xbox's, I do it all the time! :-D
Didn't know about Gears of War 2 Horde mode though, going to have to grab another copy...
