PS 3 Home Beta?
I just got something in one of my mail boxes as follows:
'...
As an update to the PLAYSTATION(R)3 News email sent on Friday,
October 24th, the special invitation to PlayStation(R)Home's closed
beta is available only to Qore annual subscribers who purchased
subscriptions by 10/29. Qore Episode 06 purchasers will not be
eligible for the special PlayStation(R)Home beta invitation at
this time. We apologize for the miscommunication.
Participation in PlayStation(R)Home's closed beta is limited to
those 18 years and older and requires agreement with the
PlayStation(R)Home Beta Trial.
...'
Well, even tho' I'm a Qore subscriber, I don't remember ever getting a 10/24 email about beta testing Home? Anyone else? I guess Non-disclosure is in place about how it is, but I'm just curious if anyone is testing it? I will look more closely at my last few Qores (which I failed to download once I got SOCOM Beta out of the way:>) and see if there is some offer there I missed. Anyway, just curious (more again for SOCOM connection that some are saying 'Home' is that gateway to allot of SOCOM functionality in matchmaking/party system)

I've yet to get into the Home beta, not that it will be out any time soon so I'm sure we have months of continued effort.

I've been in the Home beta for quite a long time now. Actually have been meaning to hop in and check out the new game spaces they've added but haven't got around to it yet.
Don't worry though, you aren't missing out on much. At least not from what I last saw in the beta

Same with me. Home is neat in theory, but nothing in it has entertained me all that much.
I'll go now, to make bigger mistakes and to embarrass this fine institution even more. But let me leave you with one last thought: If you can laugh at yourself loud and hard every time you fall, people will think you're drunk. Thank you.
It's hard to get any sort of impression from Home when there isn't anyone to interact with and very little content.
I would have preferred a more stylized look like Habbo Hotel.

It seems that open beta keys are going out to most everyone subscribed to the Playstation Underground newsletter now. I grabbed the client and checked it out for a bit tonight.
It looks nice, but the content is really thin. I'm really missing the point of it so far.
Anyone else recent invitees to Home?
Plan to be spontaneous... tomorrow

Looks like they've added a lot more character customization, even though the UI for it is still terrible. Also, this latest version worked 2 hours ago and now its 100% network error when I try to use it, so that's a plus.

I received an invitation a couple of weeks ago and haven't been so underwhelmed in quite some time. I really don't understand the point of Home. Especially considering how much time and hype Sony has put into this product.

Just got my invitation as well.

Me too. I'm not even sure I care enough to bother downloading it, though.

It's junk. I tried last night and it's boring and I do not understand why I would ever log on? There is nothing to do, it's dull to look at, and I turn on a console to play a game not just walk around.

I just realized that I hadn't gotten the beta because I haven't yet registered my PS3. Guess I should do that just out of curiosity. Hearing these stories, though, makes me wish Sony was working faster on some games and not on this. I love my PS3, but I have a feeling it's headed to the dustbin of gaming history soon. At this point I'm not sure what they have in the pipeline that can stop this from happening short of lowering the console's price to $200.

I got mine too. Well yea, it's a beta. And I agree, I would rather Sony work on other games or get their network working more efficiently then it is. But again, this could turn out very cool...could.

I've never been so excited to be so disappointed. Maybe I'll download second life to set the mood . . .

Hey! The PlayStation Home will be open to everyone tomorrow! Aren't we psyched? Aren't we?
Why do I hear crickets?
We can wander around places! And go to Red Bull Island! And pay to create a club! It's like Second Life without the creepiness and strap-ons.

I'm not sure it's even that good* in theory. It's seems like a good idea for a few seconds in theory, but once you think about it at all the goodness vanishes. I'm not in the beta, but why watch videos or organise games in a 3d virtual world when it's much quicker and easier to do it with a standard 2D interface?
What really confused me was when I read somebody complaining that they couldn't play bowling in the Home beta "because the lanes were always full". It's a virtual world - why not just create more lanes?

Oh yeah, here is the link to the 1UP story about Home being free for all to play.
Zelos, are you still gonna try it anyway? It IS free... I figure that merits at least an hour or two of messing around with it.

Yes, I'll probably still download it just to see: I'd love to be proved wrong here.

I was really surprised when this thing was announced at GDC that so many developers were going nuts over how revolutionary it was. I feel now like I did when I first saw it: there's no reason to spend time in this space. I guess maybe everyone thought they would reveal their compelling features between then and release, but I've seen nothing.
