Elderscrolls 5: Skyrim says RPS

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008...

Looks like the next Elderscrolls game will be out in 2010 and set in Skyrim.

Now I really liked Bloodmoon so I'm looking forward to this.

Awesome. I've always played a big dumb Nord warrior. Will be nice to return to the motherland.

Well it does seem like it's a no brainer to make it. Of coures I'm on board. As long as they don't lvl the rats to me. Stupid rats.

Cool!

Though bloodmoon was set on the island of Solstheim (i think).

There better be a ton of death metal.

Woot! Skyrim!

I still want a modern Elder Scrolls game that covers the whole of Tamriel someday though.

Woot! Snow! Needs to be more snow in RPG's i reckon.

it should have been Akavir...

you see?
TES IV OblIVion
TES V AkaVir

it was a no-brainer!...

Now, if they can regain the depth and mood of TES III I'll be a happy Dark Elf. There was something much more rewarding in that game compared to Oblivion, I loved both games but Morrowind had much more inmersion going on, and most of it wasn't the graphics or trinkets like that, the story sucked you in if you were willing to tackle the main quest...Oblivion main quest was alright I guess but not nearly as enthralling I think.

Grand Theft Horse?

Elder Scrolls: The MMO?

Actually, isn't Bethesda supposedly working on an MMO of some kind?

And yes, Morrowind was one of my favorite games ever, so I'm definitely looking forward to this. (Though I suppose I should finish Oblivion at some point first...)

Oblivion with guns?

Bleh, I'm hoping for either a return to Hammerfall or a visit to the Sommerset Isles myself. The nordic race and setting just doesn't hold much charm for me.

Oblivion with hats?

Fallout with swords would be pretty sweet.

I don't like the TES series, but it is better that they went with Skyrim. Morrowind was such an ugly place.

Elder Scrolls: The MMO?

Except I want Elder Scrolls: Tamriel, not Elder Scrolls: the MMO.

I found Morrowind lacking a little in traditional fantasy scenery, but on the other hand loved how different the environment was. Part of why I want a full Tamriel implementation is because we'd get all the environments to explore, and partly because there'd be so much lore and interesting quest storyline possibilities to explore.

Set in the Teeth of the World, you say? I'm going to play as Gorath!

No wai. Squire James all the way.

Exactly - this is one of the ways in which Morrowind was better than Oblivion - Oblivions Cyrodil setting was pretty bland compared to Morrowind - which might have been ugly but was still fascinating and different. Skyrim is going to be great - I do love me some nords.
A full tamriel implementation would be WAAAY to much work, especially if you're thinking of keeping the territory ratio of morrowind and oblivion. If you compressed Tamriel into the same size as Oblivion I wouldn't really dig it either.

I think we'll just need some intrepid modders to start taking the assets from Oblivion, Morrowind, and now Skyrim to form a total conversion of Tamriel.

I am, and I realize that, but I can dream!

So wait for Tamriel Rebuilt, then http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/

They need to take a page from Fable 2 and include wife stealing.

Sold. That's got all kinds of different races, though, right? Snake people and such?

Maybe they are saving it:

TES VI AkaVIr

I was also hoping for Akavir myself... Much more variety in climates, cities, people possible there.

One thing I loved about Morrowind was the conflict between familiar and alien cultures. The contrasting architecture of the different dark elf factions and the Imperial outposts was especially cool. An Imperial expedition to Akavir would be ideal for some of that same vibe...

Bethesda seem to have figured out how to make visually compelling games, finally, with Fallout 3. One of my biggest gripes with Oblivion was out butt-ass ugly it was. ES5, with their newly decent F3 engine, could be awesome.

In terms of gameplay, oblivion was a quantum leap beyond Morrowind. If they make a similarly enormous jump from Oblivion to Skyrim, should be fantastic.

Also, I call major BS on the 2010 release estimate. I predict this will be a sort of God of War 2 scenario, where it releases after the next XBox does. 2012, I say.

It's vaguely possible. I mean, the games are getting larger and larger. And they have planned out and mapped increasingly more. So, it's entirely possible.

Whole Tamriel? Hell no. And even if they could pull that off, why would they? Why would they drop classic format (one new province every game) just to go through sh*tloads of work on lore and content (and Oblivion wasn't text-heavy at all, let me remind you) while it's not going to affect their sales (cause they're going for that 'huge open world' bullet point anyway)

Technically, having all of Tamriel is more "Classic" than Morrowind or Oblivion. Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall had you travel through all of Tamriel. Granted, most of it was crappy randomly generated terrain but it still holds a place in my heart.

Daggerfall was one primary province and territory from several neighboring ones as well. Arena was the whole of Tamriel. Only half (two) of the ES games have been restricted entirely to one province.

I am excited to see the announcement of the next elder scrolls, but at the same time, it is too early to think about it.

I'm with you, Fars. I want it too. I want to be able to walk from one edge of the continent to another, getting into adventures along the way.

To be honest, Bethesda can do no wrong for me. I loved Oblivion and I'm sure I'll play the hell out of ES:V as well.

Soon enough? But that's not soon enough!
