Im trying to run Farcry 2 at High or "very high" settings (Which is like medium high actually), but it is really, really jumpy. Im using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ with 2.00 GB of dual channel RAM. Do I need a better processor for gaming? My graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2.

Seems that way.

Problem is you have an AMD chipset and Mobo. These days Intel is far better of a proc. So if you want to change you need a new mobo and maybe new ram.

I would start out by getting more RAM-- the less expensive route overall, I think. Or it can be. Regardless, 2Gb of RAM just isn't enough these days, and while 32bit Windows won't recognize that 4th stick (32bit Windows will only utilize about 3.25Gb of RAM), the extra memory should help a bit with framerates.

Isn't FarCry 2 built on the Crysis Engine, which was made for unattainable system specs, though? As in, it was made with specs that don't exist yet, so as to extend the longevity of the engine. If so, you simply may not be able to run the game at the highest settings it claims to allow. I'm not too sure about that, though...

I was thinking about this. That way i don't have to get another mobo. And i guess add another gig of RAM, hopefully that will fix most issues. I gotta get fallout 3 to run silky smooth.

FarCry2 is based on a different engine then Crysis, in fact two totally different companies made the games. Furthermore, the more cores your processor has the better Far Cry 2 will run, so I say go Quad core.

Ah. I couldn't be bothered to have looked it up at the time. Thanks for the clarification.

And I agree with the Quad Core choice-- just make sure your mobo is Socket AM2+ compatible, as that's the spec for the chip.
