LittleBigPlanet Catch-all

Can't find a main thread for LBP, so i made this one, cough me if i'm crazy. Been reading a lot about the Parsons School of Design and their recent 24 hour marathon at making LBP levels, sounds like the tools are there to make some amazing things. Beta keys are flooding the internet as we read this.
I read a very detailed article about the 24 hours at Parsons, talking about all the different levels, but i can't find it now. Looks like they'll be posting the Parson levels for download when the game ships.

The video looked really good for this. I like when he goes "there is stomach acid", he gets hit by it, he says "it can kill you", and it sends him back to the beginning of the level, a collective groan coming from the audience.

I thought I'd buy a PS3 for this... I'm waiting for release and see if it's really good.
This is for sure PS3 exclusive, right? Because if I can get it on Wii or 360...
edit: HOLY f*ckING sh*t, that custom level looks awesome!

I thought Little Big Tetris was quite impressive too.

What I love about the Parsons project was that it was an amazing proof-of-concept. Media Molecule showed off what their tools are capable of creating in the hands of creative people, not just gamers.

A lot of people are in the beta now but I haven't read any impressions yet. I've been avoiding reading too much so it's all fresh for launch day, but both my son and I are very excited to do some co-op level making.

I'd bet you anything that it makes for some awesome father/son memories. To this day I still have vivid memories of playing on my Sega Genesis with my dad. We used to play good old fashioned brawlers like Golden Axe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist together all the time.

Theres a lot of new footage floating on Gametrailers and I am thoroughly hyped for this release. The opening by its own makes a great sell I think. The single player really seems to have shaped up and Stephen Fry's voice-over work adds something wonderful that I wasn't quite expecting. I may be a current gamer without a job but my dwindling finances won't stop me from buying this day one.

Has anyone else heard that Online Co-Op Level editing will be delayed and released in a patch after the game is released?
I hope that link works. I'm at work and the site is blocked here. but I looked at it last night at home.

I've been on media blackout with regards to previews, because they never seem to be accurate (Preview: OMG This game looks teh 4\/\/w350/\/\3! Review from same site: Man, this game sucks a** and spits it out right into your face). However, I did watch the demo movies floating around a few months back and I'm eagerly awaiting this release.
It won't be a Day 1 purchase for me, because I never purchase games day 1 if they cost more than $30 (LBP is a full priced game, right?), but I look forward to the impressions here and in the podcast. If it turns out as good as I think it's going to, LBP will be my birthday present from The Missus.

Anyone want to take bets on how long it will take for someone to make a thoroughly obscene level for this game?
Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if it's already happened.

I'd say it'll be a matter of hours before there's a giant wang level, and only slightly longer before there's a giant vagina level. We should place bets.

Well since 99% of the people who do these levels have never scene a vagina, it's pretty much a guarantee the wang will come first.

EDIT: thought the better of it. Someone made an anti-XBox360 level that I thought was cute, but I don't want to derail the thread with a system wars entry. Never mind.

I haven't been following LBP too closely and am wondering what's going on with the beta process. Is it over and and if not, are any keys going to be made available?
Vote Ron Paul 2012
A bunch of different online news outlets and blogs are giving away a ton of beta keys all this week. I know joystiq and playstation blog both gave away keys today.

I saw that 1up is having a giveaway on their site if you answer the question of the day, they have 2000 codes. I've decided i have way too much too do between now and launch, and i'd like to save the surprise. Also, only the best of the best levels will be saved from Beta, so they say.

I've had my eye on this game for quite a while and honestly, I've never been able to figure out why it has the hype level it does. I thought it was going to be a PSN only game for like 10-15 bucks or so. Then I saw it at gamestop for 60$. Seriously? 60 bucks?
The graphics are impressive, however gameplay looks painfully slow and boring. From the GDC demo, they stated that the game's entire mechanic is simply running and jumping. In the video with the Super Mario Bros 1-1 recreation, look how floaty and imprecise the controls seem to be compared to something like the real SMB which is precise and elegant in comparison.
Other than a build-your-own-platformer-with-physics, I don't see what the game actually is. In regards to user content, creating quality levels is terribly difficult for any game. There may be a number of good ones, but I foresee an amazing flood of horrifically broken levels.
So yea. Its cute and looks nice but I fail to see what the big deal is. Pixel Junk Eden and LocoRoco as platformers are far more impressive from a gameplay standpoint.

The platforming in LBP can be amazing with the right level, the SMB recreation is a terrible example (and pretty poorly done honestly.)
