The Tank variants still seem viable. It's just the melee dps classes that have had the rough end of the stick shoved where it hurts most when it comes to open world RvR.

Sure, if you go in solo as MDPS you're going to get destroyed. If you let a few tanks push first then go in behind them you'll have a much better chance of survival. And MDPS are not pushovers by themselves either.
I'd recommend just picking whichever class appeals to you the most, which one you think you'll have the most fun playing even if it is overpopulated.

Honestly, unless you have every intention of playing, the entry should not be tallied, just so we have an accurate look at what our guild composition is looking like. If many people who are still on the fence still cast their class choices and decide not to play, we'll have a skewed view.
A lot of people make their choice based on what's not being represented and they need an accurate view to make that choice.
As a slight derail, you'd pick 2 pet classes, in fact mirrors of each other Elliot?

I agree with you, Polypusher, about not counting people if they aren't 100% sure on buying the game. Like I said, I'm on the fence but I'm hoping that I'll get the itch around release. Thought posting which classes I would play would encourage me to pick up the game.
I LOVE pet classes. They give me peace of mind. I know that if I'm in a PvE battle, I can trust on them finishing the guy off if I get a phone call or am disrupted in some way.
Sorry to further derail: But I'm also strangely picky about my pet classes and I really have no idea what works for me. I love the hunter in WoW but dislike the Warlock. I love the necromancer in Everquest but hated the necromancer in Diablo 2. Couldn't stand the lore master in LOTRO also. But if I get that perfect pet class, I'm hooked on the game for a long time.

I've been tempted to try the White Lion but after watching a squig eat its master, and the goblin proceed to control it from the inside (from the cinematic, Im told thats how they actually work), I have to say I'm totally intrigued!

Okay so I finally "get" the Disciple in RvR now. It was sort of like fumbling around a bit and trying some things. But my nature is aggressive which does not work with the WP and DoK.
So I hung back a little bit trying to drop some heals on the tanks and some hots on the DPS classes and then being an opportunist by helping finish off hurting targets. It didn't seem like I was doing much but this combined with keeping myself healed earned me close 3rd in heals and in the upper half of damage. We won and I got 3 renown ranks and half an xp level.
So whether or not it feels like I'm contributing much, the results are more important. The results are good so I'm happy.
Also I would recommend against using the same server for order and chaos. If the order folks decide to join the chaos folks they won't be able to unless its regarding the competitive end of our pointy sticks.

I just got into the Witch Hunter and wow, those guys get some kills. Very cool style too. Whats not to like about a murderous, evilly righteous, rapier weilding pilgrim? I have to play one simply because they use a rapier! How often do you see those in games?
I actually ran into a limit as mine. I went into the Scenario once at level 4 had so much fun that I did another, and another, until I was Level 5, Renown 5, and the renown bar was full, it won't let your renown level get higher than your regular level! So I think I wasted quite a bit of renown potential before I realized that. Ill have to go do some quests to raise the limit

I'm not sure what level you are fang but I found that the abilities I picked up at 8 and 9 made a world of difference on my War Priest. The morale heal alone has let me save a group member or myself countless times now. The channeled melee dmg heal is great for people who are standing around trying to cast or heal someone else. It does okay damage over 3 seconds and heals for a decent amount if you get all 4 hits off.
I agree i was joking when i suggested that.
