The New Fall TV Season 08-09

I just saw that my favorite new show from last season will be kicking into gear September 29th. Life, starring Damian Lewis, will be slotted right after Heroes this season. I hope it finds an audience, as it just didn't seem to get any buzz last season. Everyone I know that watched it, loved it. But I don't know that many people that caught it, as Friday night is not a great spot.

I saw the DVD's are out now, and you can watch free episodes online at nbc.com. Since the first season was shortened due to the strike, they are considering this a restart for the season, and are calling this premiere a second pilot. So if you aren't into catching up, it will still be worth hanging around to watch after Heroes. I thought last season had some really nice new shows, but Life easily was the show my wife and I anticipated the most each week.

This is the show I have been waiting for, so I thought I might make a thread for other shows people are looking forward to seeing this season, as well.

I'll be checking out a few shows. I'm at least half interested in the second season of the Terminator show. The first was cheesy and the kid playing John Connor is bad, but the kid in Terminator 2 was bad too so no biggie there. It's passable enough for me to at least try out the second season for a couple episodes.

And I'm also in for Season 3 of Heroes. As one of what seems to be three people who enjoyed season 2, I'm looking forward to it.

And your endorsement for Life is interesting, as is Lewis' involvement. He's been good in everything I've seen him in to date. He was even good in that crappy movie called Dreamcatcher that came out awhile back. I'll have to see if I can get through all the episodes of the first season before the new ones start showing.

I don't know how I'm going to watch all these shows though. I'm always at work when they're on. If they're not available on Hulu or something I guess I'll have to hunt them down the not quite legal way.

I'm a huge Shawn Ryan fanboy so I'm definitely going to be watching The Shield and The Unit. Also, 30Rock and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are hilarious, so I can't wait until their new seasons start.

I'm interested in My Own Worst Enemy, which stars Christian Slater as a multiple-personality hitman.

The Mentalist looks like a Monk/Psych clone.

11th Hour, I have no idea what to really expect from that.

Seems like a sparse season for new shows.

Yahoo Fall TV highlights the new shows fairly well.

I'm interested in Fringe tonight - hopefully some decent Sci-Fi. Same goes for 11th Hour when it shows up.

Worst Week seems to be interested in continuing the "Lets Make a Series from a Single Episode Outline" trend. I wonder if the singular form of "Week" is indicative of how long the show's producers think it will last.

Only new comedy that has my interest is Kath and Kim - mostly due to so many of the Christopher Guest crew being on the show.

Anything with Christian slater will get a look from me.

Looking at the Fall lineup from Yahoo (great link MikeMac!) I saw Life on Mars is scheduled. It's a copy of the BBC show I freaking loved. I didn't have super high hopes, as I really don't know what to make of David E. Kelly. But seeing Harvey Keitel in the role of Lieutenant Gene Hunt has me pretty excited. The BBC version was so perfect, I just have hard time seeing it work in the US.

You don't have too much longer to wait. The premiere is next Thursday (Sept. 18).

In addition to Supernatural, I'm really looking forward to Life, Chuck, and Heroes. There are a few others that are on the list, but these are the must sees.

Yeah, I saw the new Entourage Sunday night. It was quite good, as always.

I also got a chance to check out the new HBO vampire drama, True Blood. I have real mixed feelings about it.

The premise is really interesting and the rural Louisiana setting is actually pretty fresh, but the way they brow-beat the whole Equal Rights vs. Prejudice message is way too heavy handed for my tastes. Also, the over-the-top sexuality seems a bit forced and out of place, imo. I know vampires are purported to be sexual creatures and all, but the way they had "teh boobz" flying around the whole episode seemed a bit distasteful and gave any serious credibility to the show as a legit drama a disservice. Not to be a prude or anything, but if I want to see that stuff there's much better sources that don't guise themselves as "art". Finally, do we really need more racial stereotypes (Angry Black Woman) in a show that's supposed to be platforming equality?

I'll watch a few more shows to see if my opinion changes, as the show did have some neat stuff going for it.

There are others I'm interested in like House and Numb3rs and NCIS, but, I can't remember the last time I was so anxious to see a season premiere like I am about Supernatural.

If I had to guess it would have been X-files or Millennium. It's refreshing to have a simple pleasure to look forward to like that.

Ugh. Comparing it to two series that crashed and burned so spectacularly fills me with great anxiety.

I don't think you can call Millennium a crash and burn. It had an end. It was just a question of if you liked that end. I actually did, so, even though it was abrupt I would say it was head and shoulders above X-Files as far as closure.

And so far Supernatural looks like it has been learning from past mistakes. It's campy but engaging and knows when to stop making things so freaking complicated.

I am optimistic about the fate of Supernatural.

I found the last season of Millennium such a turn-off just based on how they resolved the cliffhanger. As for how it compared with X-Files, I didn't even finish watching the last season of X-Files, so I wouldn't know.

Hmmm. Yeah I guess I wouldn't either.

But I'm confident that I can make an educated guess that the end of X-Files was horsesh*t.

Looking forward to Heroes, Chuck, Entourage and not sure yet about True Blood. Like Aaron D. said above, there are some elements that are great and others that are rather annoying. Hopefully the great stuff will win out.

Bah! I just started watching Season 2 on DVD. I can't rationalize paying or Showtime, as I finally cut HBO after John from Cincinnati (hugely underrated show) finished up.

But I do loves me some Dexters.

I'm lovin' me some Prison Break right now! I just watched the premiere of Sons of Anarchy last night. I thought it was OK for a pilot. It's a little too early for me to tell too much about it yet, so I'm giving it my usual 3 episode litmus test. I will say that I never thought that Katey Segal's character would be the toughest of the bunch.

I watched the pilot of Sons of Anarchy. That will be a show I continue to follow.

I have a soft spot for shows about people that list "beating the sh*t out of things" on their resumes.

Hence the aforementioned wait for Supernatural.

It started as a web series. I saw the first episode, not too bad, but not that great. It did have Bigfoot and Jack the Ripper, so that's a plus.

Caught a couple of episodes. Good story, nice ambiance(sp?), but they were saving money on the special effects and its obvious. Surprisingly good performance by show/movie killer Robin Dunne.

Edit: Just saw on Wikipedia that they have unedited versions of episodes where they don't add the backgrounds to the green screens to encourage fans to add their own touches. That's really cool.
