Praise the Overlords, it's the Pile of Shame

September is be kind to to editors and writers month. In honor of some of our more "famous" writers let's play some of our older to titles so they will have one less game to wax poetic over that "no one played."

No seriously, if you like what you read drop them a line. I know I never get tired of hearing how awesome I am, and I don't write a d*mn thing.

Since we have a 3-way tie for most players on a game, and Assassin's Creed was last month, I made an executive decision.

This Month's Pick of the Pile is:

Lost Odyssey

"Lost Odyssey™ is the story of Kaim, an immortal character who has lived more than 1,000 years. He doesn't remember his past, and he doesn't know where his future lies. Throughout Kaim's journey, a handful of characters will join him on an odyssey to discover their intricate past and destiny, leading you through a dramatic story of massive scale. Lost Odyssey features breathtaking visuals and an epic adventure made possible only by the power of Xbox 360®." (Xbox.com)

This month's thread is getting a late start because of hectic work week. Short weeks don't mean one less day of work, it just means 5 days of work gets compacted into 4.

Not sure what I'm going to play this month.

Pick of the Pile will be decided on Monday.

I'll carry over Mass Effect from last month. I'm not sure how much playing time it will see, though. Mercs 2 is dominating my kids'-school-and-soccer shortened playing time and Force Unleashed is waiting in the wings.

Ok, I'm going to be less insanely ambitious this month.

I'll carry over Halflife 2, if I finish that I'll add in the episodes.

I have a feeling that a lot of my free time this month will go towards new stuff that is coming out, but put me down for Far Cry (only two levels left, dammit) and Assassin's Creed.

Lets try Condemned 2. Been meaning to have another stab at that.

Oh and I need to finish Ratchet and Clank : Tools of Destruction. (pretty close to the end of that one i think) so add that one too please.

Kraint, you're biting off WAAY more than you can chew. If you get through all that, you should write a book on speed-gaming.

All you mass-effect finishers are late to the "late to the party" party. Mass-effect pile of shame is SOO June.

I'll pop in a conservative month also after I rocked the pile hard in August.
Put me down for Bully and Beyond Good & Evil.

Maybe you just need to track down a copy of the original, non-Source version. Having not played HL:Source, I don't know how they compare.

I'll try to gauge the interest here. If I were to attempt some of the Guild Wars campaigns, who will want to tag along?

I will continue Phoenix Wright: Justice for All this month.

Well, I've been caught in a dilemma for a few days now. I went ahead and finished Super Mario Galaxy. And by finished, I mean I got enough stars to see the ending. Now, I thought I'd go ahead and try to get the rest of them like I did with Super Mario 64. But... holy hell... The later stages are ridiculous. Harder than hardcore.

So I can't decide whether or not I should shelf the game for good or satisfy the "completionist" in me. I tried to power through the game a few times but I encountered this one stage... I swear I wasted 25+ lives trying to complete it. It's the smallest planet in the whole game and should only take about two minutes to complete. I can't do it. Whoever designed that planet... I want to know where he/she lives.

I'll make a decision about SMG soon. Put me down for Lost Odyssey. I have to finish LO already especially with the wave of new 360 games on the horizon.

I did the same thing with SMG. I decided to shelve it. It was a very fun game to that point, but I was getting frustrated at parts of it. So, I moved on to the next shiny thing.

From one lapsed completionist to another, it ain't worth it. If their is a % symbol anywhere in the game stats, I will invariably be drawn to completing it but the fun of the game is almost always gone long before I can reach the mythical 100%. I'm just now learning to let go. I still have some billboards to smash in burnout paradise, but I only fire up the game when I feel like driving, not because I feel I have to finish it any more than I already have.

OK that was my long drawn out way of giving both myself and you some encouragement. Good luck with Lost Odyssey.

Yay, I was getting worried that I had no Pile of Shame thread to motivate me this month! Which just goes to show just how awesome Hemidal really is, as others have noted. Sir, we salute you!

For this month, I'm going to try to finish Warcraft III and the Frozen Throne expansion - mostly in preparation of WotLK, so I'm caught up on the backstory. I'm still amazed at Blizzard's creation of a huge world that is so rich in stories, both small and big, and still so cohesive. It's one of my favourite things about World of Warcraft.

If you can't be a good example, at least be a horrible warning.

I have the first two and the fourth (Night Fall?). I'd be up for playing a little bit. The entire thing might be pushing it though.

Oy. Carry over Ratchet & Clank from last month for me. And throw me down for Fable. While you're at it, pencil in Fable II for the June 2010 Pile o' Shame.
