Ok, this looks just badass. From what I've seen, this is a day 1 buy for me. Any thoughts?

Holy. Sh*t.

I just saw the video, and it is everything I wanted from a game based on Space Marines. Even from the early build of the game, they seem to have captured the atmosphere of WH40K.

Simply amazing to me.

Wow - that games looks pretty bad. Visually appealing, but very repetitive, full of animations that you can't break out of, and kind of missing the point of the 40K universe, which is about squad-based combat. Very odd. It's like they lifted the visual style of Warhammer and pasted it onto, I don't know, some weird hybrid of Gears of War and Assassin's Creed.

I cant seem to get on either. I want a squad based game based around an Inquisition warband. Where is that!??! Enough with the space marines. They could use buzzwords like "dynamic torture based dialoge".

Yeah, its kind of unsettling. They seem to miss the brutality of the 40k universe in favor of gore. Which are two completely different things. I'm also concerned about the philosophy that 'ranged weapons are a means to getting into hand-to-hand.' But while I can see your points, Happy Dave, it still looks fun enough to play through.

Important question: Will we be able to play different Chapters? Or will we be stuck with a fruity mostly-Codex chapter like DoW? Particularly in multiplayer. Dark Angels v Space Wolves would be good fun at parties.

This better come to PC, says I, or I might have to buy a 360 or PS3.

Looks promising. Like most of you and other 40k fans, this is much closer to the game that I've been dying to play.

I'm a little worried about the cinemaction moments, though. They look cumbersome, and I hate it when games lock me into having to watch scripted animations. It's hard to tell without having the controller in-hand, but I'd want those moves to be faster to execute so they blend better with normal gameplay and movement.

Although I do like 'Scope of War.'

EDIT: Also, I don't care about 'cool' finishing moves. No matter how many there may be.

I tried to get a look at the chapter badge on the marine's shoulder, but couldn't make it out very well. It looked like a skull with a scar down the right eye (same symbol seen throughout the video and is the health bar), which is not one of the standard chapters. It could be a placerholder, or it may be a new chapter all together.

I'm willing to give what I have seen so far in the video a huge amount of leeway. The game is probably in a pre-alpha state, with just enough tech developed to see how it plays. The developer commentary acknowledged the fact that currently there were only a few close combat actions in place, with the intention to add alot more. Who knows, there may be squad combat (ala Gears of War) in the game, just not in the video we saw.

I am desperately hoping for some multiplayer co-op action though. If they did implement that, the only way for me to get more excited for this game is to hear that it would be hooked directly up to the pleasure centers of my brain.

This "Cinemaction" business has been done much better already by Ninja Gaiden 2. Anyhow, the concept is good, but it doesn't look like it will bring the challenge and gameplay of something like Ninja Gaiden. I'm all for more 3rd person action titles though.

The more I think about it, the more I'm concerned that their obsession with those will ruin the game.

Also - as someone noted on YouTube - why do Bolters not matter? They're taking a decently warped view on the combat in 40k to pimp out their melee bells and whistles and it's a bit troubling.

Why can't we negotiate combat in a variety of ways? As a marine? As an assassin? As a scout? With 5 of our friends in a marine squad? With a plasma rifle?

Lots of opportunity here - I hope they don't eff it up.

A cutscene for every kill? It really breaks up the action. How can that think that is a good idea? I really like Warhammer. and the universe but I will really have to see more to get this one.

Actually, using ranged weapons to get to melee combat sounds like the WH40K Space Marines to me. While the Assault Marines might have been specialists, all of the Space Marines were badass at hand-to-hand. Back when I used to play the tabletop game (years and years ago) you could wipe out tons of the other side just by getting into melee combat. Always great fun.

Kind of a bad demo though, it looks repetitive as hell. Also, too many damn buzzwords. If you are creating a good game you don't need to come up with stupid meaningless phrases like Cinemaction or Intimate Brutality.

Honestly, I thought Certis was kidding until I watched the video.

There is so much precedent in the 40k universe for a solitary Space Marine responding to situations. For a good and proper point of reference on the Tabletop, look up Inquisitor. One of the original models was a Marine.

More third person action is definitely a good thing. I don't know that I like how it seems to handle though, especially given that there were a couple of backhands with the bolter those puny mortals seemed to shrug off. They should have been flying masses of blood and broken bones after that. Plenty of opportunity to get it right though. Here's hoping they do.

I recall murdering lots of people with my heavy bolter, too.

Anyway, I wasn't saying that melee should be right out - just that I shouldn't be required to do it for every kill. Bolter only stuns? Bad form.

Good point. I was getting frustrated that the bolter didn't seem to do anything. I think they're heading in exactly the wrong direction. Everything about a Space Marine should be walking death.

Many varied fatalities are a good thing. Taking camera control away for every single one is jarring and will make the game feel like a chore.

Save the cinemaction *cringe* for a couple times a minute. Leave the quantity of fatalities, lessen the frequency slightly, but don't wrest camera control from the player everytime.

It looks like they are making a game that is more fun to watch than to play.

Is this the MMO? The video mentioned MMO and third person action at the beginning.

Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
