Sacred 2 Catch-all
Those sly european developers, I never see this stuff coming. Sacred 2 is out in just 3 weeks (Sept 15), and hopefully it will fill that 4 player co-op void that Too Human left. The bullet points are exciting:
- beautiful graphics
- huge world (22 square miles)
- 200+ dungeons
- 600+ quests
- 6 character classes
- 4 player drop-in, drop-out coop (16 on PC)
- flying mounts
- 1080p on the 360 or PS3
I checked out the reviews for the first Sacred (metacritic average of 77) and the consensus seemed to be that it was a nice Diablo clone with a spotty combat system, which I couldn't tell was simply repetitive, buggy, or a combination of both. The sequel moves to a 3D engine so the franchise has a chance to redeem itself.
Either way I'm excited about this game, will probably be getting it come Sept 15.

Is it coming out on any digital distribution platforms?
I enjoyed the first one quite a bit. It didn't quite get itemization down as well as Diablo II, but it had a big and interesting world, and only occasionally broke my saves with game-stopping bugs.

I've been waiting for this for a while, but I think I'm going to wait for the xbox 360 release.

I found the combat in the first one underwhelming myself. I don't know if I would call it buggy, just that it would interpret you clicking on your enemy as moving to that spot instead of attacking far more often then it should. It was also lacking that visceral feeling most Diablo-clones have, in that hitting an enemy seemed to have little feedback, feeling the same as if you were just attacking thin air.
That said, the art style was great and they had some interesting concepts. It was a huge open world map, and your class determined where on that map you started. Also, they had some of the more creative classes I've ever seen in that type of game. For instance, one class was a half-vampire type of character, which had your skill set completely different depending on what time of day it was. While I already have a lot of this type of game to get around to, I'm still ready to be surprised.

I loved the classes and skills of the first one. The coop was too buggy and only one player got rewarded for completed a quest. That killed it for me. If those issues are fixed this time around, I am in.

Stay away from the console version, it's light years behind the PC version from what I saw at Gen Con.

I'm all over this. Sacred is one of the only games my wife ever got into, even more than me. Two player coop on the console is going to be fantastic. The first wasn't the best dungeon crawler around but it had a lot of cool ideas and it was a lot of fun to play. Needless so say I'm really looking forward to Sacred 2.
Will probably go with the 360 version in case some of my other buddies pick it up, too.

In what ways? Is the gameplay the same, and the difference primarily in graphics/presentation, or are the console controls rough compared to the pc controls?

Awesome. Sacred was an excellent diablo clone. I couldn't play it as much as I wanted to due to a couple of crippling bugs.
It should be on Steam, Sacred is. I'm definitely down with some multiplay when I get it.

I still play Sacred on the laptop. Can't quite put my finger on what makes it such a great game. Its just fun to run around in the world.

that trailer is stangely edited (so much spinning around, quick cuts, music), they try to make it look hip and cool but completely fail. I have the feeling the game could look (and hopefully be) a lot better than this, because that doesn't make me want to play it.

Like the part at the begginning where it follows a rather unimpressive (by today's standards), polygonal ass for a couple seconds. Tip: If you want to show off how sexy your player models are, make sure they're actually sexy!

Yea it's definitely an oddly cut trailer. The game is played from a Diabloesque highly zoomed out isometric perspective, so you never get close enough to the models to notice the lack of detail

I just want to learn the differences since I've been planning to go 360 for ease of multiplayer and convenience on this one for a long time. But if the PC version is distinctly better, I may have to change my mind.

As someone who loved Sacred, I'm really looking forward to II. There are flaws you can overlook and those you can't. Sacred had a bunch of 'em:
1. Horrendously buggy
2. Horrible camera zoom levels
3. Non-scalable graphics
4. Unbalanced classes
5. Lack of combat feedback
6. Throwaway story
7. Useless mounts
8. Annoying respawns
Yet I didn't mind all that much. The class variety, tactics and especially the world just sucked me in. Most every nook and cranny of the world was packed with cool stuff. I think I had something like 98% of the map uncovered in the first one. It was the biggest, coolest map on a RPG since U7 (yes, it beat Divine Divinity). Add to that some really neat combat tactics, great class variety, a few curveballs in the storyline, good co-op/online gameplay and it added up to hours of enjoyment!
I am so going to quote that out of context.
I'm getting the 360 version unless reviews state it hasn't improved over what Certis saw. Probably won't care to play the PC version at all.

I'd recommend the PC version, if only for the fact that it can be patched easier and more often.
Kotaku has posted some impressions from their 10 minute demo at GC. It's mostly jokes about not understanding german, but they do mention that the combat feels fine.

Here's some gameplay footage of the 360 version. Framerate looks rough, but overall it's promising. Looks like the money I earmarked for Too Human might get put to use on a lootbasedhackandslash after all. (yeah, that's right, we're all thinking it, I said it)

Huh, interesting.
Teamxbox has an interesting article on multiplayer. 360 version has 4 player co-op, we already knew that. However, it's limited to 2 consoles, with 2 players sharing the screen on each console (no split-screen). There are 4 multiplayer modes, player-vs-player, player-vs-cpu (players against waves of monsters), campaign mode, and free-roam.

All that matters to me is local two player coop. Really looking forward to this. My wife and I will likely lose countless hours to it

I enjoyed the first one for the amount that I played it, but that was only a few hours (it's on Gametap, for anyone who has a subscription to that and feels like playing it). I'll certainly keep an open mind about the sequel, if it looks like they're going to address the shortcomings of their first effort.

If that's the case, stauf, this goes from a "must buy" to a "never ever purchase", especially if that last line really means that you can't resell the product...that's a dealbreaker for me.
I am so going to quote that out of context.
