WoW - How can I ding 70 in style?
After several long months, I have leveled my first character (Kushan) to level 69, and I'm only 42,000 XP away from dinging 70. But even though I could have easily finished it off tonight, in the wee hours of the morning... I hesitated. Surely there has to be a way to ding 70 (for the first time) in style, not just by killing my thousandth clefthoof in Nagrand.
Googling turned up some interesting ideas. Some have made a point of dinging 70 (or 60 back in the day) by discovering Orgimmar on a crazed, Viking charge into the city. That's a nice idea, but it would be hard to get that close to 70 without going over until the moment you entered the city. Turpster on the WoW Insider podcast had an "dingstravaganza" where he made himself a raid boss to be killed by the listeners (who rolled level 6 gnomes), and then did the crazed Viking charge on Ironforge. Impressive, but not quite within my power.
The one creature I would most like revenge on is the frickin' Devilsaur in Un'Goro Crater, which ate my lunch more than once by sneaking up on me. But I wouldn't get any XP for killing it. Heck, I may go back and kill it just for spite.
My other idea was to ding 70 with the few dozen XP I would get for turning in the quest to kill Edwin VanCleef. But it would require serious planning to get that close without going over, and besides, I already killed VanCleef many levels ago.
Any ideas? Any memories of dings past that you would like to share?
Or should I get over the idea that this is a moment for drama (especially with Wrath setting the bar even higher before the end of the year)?

Two chicks at the same time?
Pretty much just go do it. They're really so much after 70 that you just won't care HOW you hit 70 once you do.
WOW: Bounce
I vote orgrimar charge!

Discover the last greyed out area in Azeroth to make yourself pop. That is, if discovery XP still counts at a reduced rate for that level.

I remember when Juturna (SillyRabbit) was pushing 70. We were doing normal Shadow Labs at the time and we had been hoping she'd ding for about a week. We figured it would happen sometime in the instance, but we were so wrapped up in the dungeon that we completely missed it. It happened sometime from the beginning of the room with the first boss to sometime just before Blackheart The Inciter. It was pretty fun since we were counting down and no one at all noticed until 1/2way through the run when jut said "hey guys, when did I hit 70?"
Honestly, I always prefered a good boss kill or AoE of mobs.

I go more the for the route of how many epics can I put on as soon as I hit 70. With my main it was only 4. frozen shadow set (3) and a bracer. With my 2nd toon (spriest) I was able to get 7. Nothing more enjoyable then carrying around several epics then getting to throw them all on at once the moment you ding and getting to see your firepower skyrocket. The 2nd toon dinged in a reg mana tombs run for what that matters.
A kara would be cool to do cause you can enter at 69. Curator Ding
Don't blame me if the heals suck you're the one who said the shadow priest had to heal.
My personal favorite is listing yourself in a warsong or arathi bassin when you are 69 and then go level up real fast ,buy all your new abilities and equip your 70 gear and then proceed to own ( Originally I would do this at 59 and have my epic mount ready , also worked for having a mount at 39 bg). Good times =) people freaked out once they realized what was going on.
Summoned into the middle of Gruul's Lair where you can immediately drown in his drool...

Exploration XP is always best, IMO.
Seconded.
I've dinged two 70 alts now discovering a new zone. Epic win, imo.
Oh crumbs, I'm all thumbs laying here with you. You're beautiful and busty and I'm a little rusty - I've forgotten what to do...
This reminds me of a friend of mine who planned out in advance how to ding 60 by discovering Ironforge. He figured out how much discovery xp he'd get from any undiscovered areas on the way to there, and killed green mobs until he had just the right amount of xp remaining. When he was finally ready to make the trek to Ironforge, he want afk to answer the phone. While he was on the phone his brother wandered by the computer, noticed that his character was being attacked by a mob, and promptly killed it - earning just enough xp to ding 60.

That is the saddest thing ever. SO MUCH WORK WASTED!

Thirded. I hit 60 on Neviril walking up to the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands. 70 I did at The Throne of Gul'Dan in Shadowmoon Valley.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestion. I decided to take your advice and ding 70 with two chicks at once.
Actually, I finally decided that the way to do it would be to ding 70 by discovering Orgrimmar during a naked charge into Thrall's chamber. It seemed like a suitably absurd way to hit the level cap for the first time.
I plotted out the route, made sure there would be no unexpected XP along the way, and then got 48 XP away from dinging 70. The way I did the math, that was as close as I could get it without gambling on unpredictable discovery XP.
I got outside the back gate of Orgrimmar, stripped, and charged.
Turns out that discovering Orgrimmar at 70 only gives you 8 XP, so I didn't ding 70. But I got all the way into Thrall's chamber before a swarm of guards made mincemeat of me.
So I decided to go get my flying mount, and I dinged 70 by discovering Shadowmoon Valley.
Thanks to all that gave ideas. And if you see a naked dwarf ride by, /salute.
