What are the differences between 1 slot and 2 slot 8800GT?

I'm considering upgrading my 8600GTS to the now sub-$150 8800GT this holiday season. I've verified that I have the power supply overhead and room in my case, so I'm looking good so far. Does any of y'all know the differences in power consumption, cooling, and noise between the single slot and the dual slot versions? I'm not planning on doing any overclocking. While I heavily prefer quieter operation, cool and stable wins in the end. What do you folks think?

My single-slot 8800GT, which is factory overclocked (to 700Mhz GPU/1000Mhz RAM), has really surprised me with its quiet operation. I have a good Antec PSU and a massive Scythe Ninja CPU cooler with a slow 120mm fan on it, so the rest of the PC is definitely on the quiet side, but the 8800GT doesn't stand out at all. It does clock the fan up a bit when it's working hard, but even then it's still pretty quiet.

I guess the main advantage with a dual-slot cooler is that the hot air is getting thrown straight out the back, rather than heating the inside of your PC and having to be sucked out through the PSU or other rear fans, and that extra efficiency definitely could be used to make it cooler and/or quieter. Given that you have to leave the slot next to a single-slot card free for ventilation purposes anyway, the dual-slot might be the better option.

One's a slot, but the other's even slottier.

Two slots at the same time?

Double Slot :

Memory Clock 1800MHz
Core clock 600MHz

Single Slot:

Memory Clock 1900MHz (effective)
Core clock 650MHz

The double has a much better cooling solution. It is double because it uses the second slot as an exhaust fan. If you got the room I woould get the double slot. It costs almost the same and you can overclock it better because of better cooling.

Good choice on EVGA.

Ditto, and don't forget to register your card with them w/in 30 days of your purchase to be eligible for the lifetime warranty and step-up program.

Yeah, but if you set off the bomb in Megaton you are rewarded with a parking lot!

Thanks for the responses. It makes good sense for me to go with the dual slot card since the portion below the video card is the hottest part of my case (an Antec Solo). My current 8600GTS is an EVGA, and though it runs quite warm, it's been rock solid. Between folks around here and in the ArsTechnica forums EVGA seemed the way to go a year ago, and clearly, there's no reason to change that opinion now.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled TF2 thread posting. (Snipers. Why did it have to be snipers.)
