Video Game Deals Catch-All

As an added bonus, it made up my mind for me on the issue of Fable 3 vs. Fallout New Vegas for my RPG fix this fall. (New Vegas "only" gets you $10 store credit.)

I don't know how Amazon can afford to keep giving out these sweet pre-order credit deals, but as long as they keep it coming I know where I'm buying my new games from.

Release date delivery (for 99 cents) plus twenty bucks credit? Sold!

And it's unbelievable that anyone would buy it from anywhere else. Why would you trek to Gamestop or Best Buy when you can have it waiting for your at home, or if you are at home, in your hands probably before the store even opens, for $19 less than what the store charges. It's mind-blowing.

Only justifiable excuse is if you picked it up at midnight at Walmart, and could actually play it when you got home. If that $19 is worth a couple hours... :?

My experience with release day delivery from Amazon has been after 6pm, every single time (I believe 6 games). So naw. It IS always worth waiting from the $20 credit, though. It's not like I don't have other games lying around that need playing.

The limited edition of Cursed Mountain for the Wii is $7 at Amazon with FSSS through a 3rd party. Use the search link on the left - the seller is 'hubbagames'.

If you count in the lack of sales tax, that's another $3-5 savings for most states.

The last several pre-orders I had with Gamestop have been delayed 1-4 days after the game's release, and getting to the nearest Wal-Mart is a death-defying experience. The ridiculous credit deals are just icing on a delicious gaming cake.

The only shipping method cheaper than $0.99 release-day delivery is slow-ass free super-saver shipping. That usually takes a little bit longer to get there, right?

My UPS guy gets to my apartment before I get home from work, and I have Prime, so release day delivery always makes sense to me. The $0.99 is less than you would've paid in tax if you bought it from a store ...

And Lobster, super-saver can take up to a week, but gets to me in 3 or 4 days.

Jealous hearing about how good the Amazon deals are for .com -- .ca can't even hold a candle to them. A $20 credit and a buck for release date shipping? Yes, please! But if there's a 360 game I have to have on day one, there's a Walmart five minutes walk from my house and I work from home. I'd rather buy from Amazon, though.

Does anyone know if Codemaster's 'F1 2010' (9-21-10) is part of the .99 release-date shipping deal at Amazon.com?

I can't figure out yet how to identify the qualifying games.

Aaron:

Here's a link to the list, posted earlier in the thread.

EDIT: not seeing F1 2010 on there, though. Too bad, that'd be the one deal on there I'd jump at.

CAG has had an actively updated list of Amazon credits for about a year. Since that's constantly updated, I'd recommend using it instead.

Because they're limited to video games, chances are that you'll use it to give yourself a nice $10-$20 discount on a $50-$60 new game. It gives you a reason to turn around and spend more money in their store.

ah-- cool. Still don't see F1 2010, though

Many states ask you to report a use tax when you file that covers otherwise untaxed Internet purchases.

Boy, I bet folk are mighty assiduous when filling out that form...

I'm sure someone must've already posted this (sorry, I'm a filthy skimmer) but Fable 3 is also on the list of games that Amazon will give you a $10-$20 store-credit preorder bonus for.

I posted similar link about 7 pages ago, but clicking on mine just brings you to the outdated list and you have to hit refresh. Worth posting again.

orrr use the CAG thing, even though I find the lack of console separation makes it harder to read.

Today's Amazon video game deal of the day is $15 off any MadCatz NFL team-themed 360 controllers. If you've always wanted a Detroit Lions or Oakland Raiders controller, this is your time.

Thanks for the links, guys.

Don't know how I missed the original, but that's ADD for 'ya.

Those are some ugly ass controllers.

The only issue with the Amazon credits is that they expire in too short a time. And, you have to use them on video games. Granted, I can often do that, but I've had them expire as well.

Reviews are pretty harsh. Lots of "this controller broke after a month" stuff. And a few other "the trigger buttons are stuck" or "the trigger buttons don't work." Also a couple of "the analog sticks are slick and not as precise as the MS controllers."

Nice try, Madcatz.

The real annoying part is that this should be a single item on amazon with 32 different color variations so that all the reviews could be condensed. I had to run a search and sort by reviews to actually get a decent list of them. Also, that showed that no one has reviewed the Falcons, Ravens, Bills, Cardinals, or Bengals controllers. Where your fans at?!

Also, Madcatz makes a $15 plastic faceplate that snaps over your existing controllers, also on Amazon. If you "gotta support the team" and don't want to hinder your gaming in the process, that might be the way to go.

Fixed that for you.

They suck!

I've sworn off third-party controllers, for the most part, because they tend to be cheap and unreliable. This started in my Genesis days, but I had a nice reminder of it when I bought a third-party wireless GameCube controller for the Wii. It's terrible, and I wish I'd just spent that money to get someone's used Wavebird instead.

But still, I thought I'd post the deal since it might interest someone or make a gift for someone.

Thanks for the summary. I was a little too wordy.

Also, another deal: buy a launch copy of Knights in the Nightmare for PSP either in stores or through PSN, and you'll receive a free copy (via PSN) of Yggdra Union.

Agreed. The only ones I've liked were the Logitech Precision controllers.

Dammit. I don't want that for the PSP, I already have it for the DS. But I do have a $20 credit with amazon, so I'd be getting two games for $9. Le sigh.

Back in the SNES days I had great luck with (and still have them, working) ASCIIWare stuff.

I had the ASCIIpad and the Super Advantage and loved them both. 2nd and 3rd to last, respectively on this page.

You can always buy points with them if you tend to buy XBLA games (or PSN I suppose).

I've seen a few actually give actual regular Amazon credit, but those are getting more rare. I think RDR was a regular gift credit, not game credit.

The one exception I've found. (also, wireless!) Had to get it when my old dualshock finally gave up the ghost, and was sick of the dogs tripping on wires and pulling out the controller mid-whatever.

I poked around and Gamecube controllers cost at least $5, if not more. My solution? Back to the pawn shop today to buy . . . three more Gamecubes. The guy went to get my controllers and came back apologetically, explaining they were out of wired controllers and would I mind taking the wireless Wavebird controller instead. So now I have three completely extraneous Gamecubes that I'll probably sell for $5 each without the controllers, meaning I'll have picked up three wired and one Wavebird controller, a GC, and Super Smash Brothers Melee, all for $5. Did I really need the GC? Heck, no, I could have just played the games on the Wii, but my collector's mentality-joy is easily worth five bucks at this point.

Genius doesn't know that he could sell those wavebirds on ebay for at the very least the $30 original price.

If the trolls on the internet are right then you can turn those extra three Gamecubes into a Wii with very little effort.
