Overlord 2 Announced (link via Blue's News)

Great news to hear. Overlord was a game that came out of nowhere and wound up being one of my favourite releases of last year.

Sweet! Overlord was awesome, really surprised me.

I still need to beat Overlord. Got to a burning castle and my minions kept going up in flames. Found something shiny after that.

That may be the best summary of Overlord I've ever read

One of my favorite games on the 360. I'm extremely happy to hear this is in the works!

Can't wait for this. Overlord was a gem of a title. I was surprised to learn that it broke a million too given how little marketing it had and how different a game it was from what we see these days. Good for them!

Ever since I completed the Raising Hell expansion I've been hoping to hear news of a sequel. So, hooray!

This is good news. Glad they made enough money to make a sequel possible.

Unfortunately I missed this game when it first came around as I didn't have a 360 or sufficient gaming PC at the time. I'll definitely catch it this time around though to scratch my Dungeon Keeper itch.

If you have either platform available to you now, I would highly recommend playing through the first one. You surely can get it on the cheap now.

Actually I was thinking of doing so just as I posted that, as I now have a 360.

If they can reduce the desire of my minions to commit seppuku at every turn, I'm in.

Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

The Raising Hell expansion really adds value to the experience when available during the first playthrough rather than as an "add on" after beating it... you get some neat extra weapons, and the added areas are a good distraction when you want a break from the "main quest."

If you're going to give the original a whirl, I recommend picking up the PS3 version, or (if you're 360 only) buying the expansion as soon as you've decided to commit.

Awesome. I'm looking forward to picking this one up. Day one purchase for me. Hopefully they'll heed my advice:

Getting close to finishing the game and I noticed something. Even though this game is billed as an Evil over Good type of game, all of the enemies you have to conquer are bad guys. Sure you get to do a little peasant killing, a little enslavement, but for the most part I spent the entire game fighting other evil baddies to be the biggest baddest evil in town.

Don't get me wrong I'm loving the game, might go for a replay, and am looking forward to any downloadable content. But......

I'm hoping that Overlord II is more about being evil and fighting the forces of good. Fighting the good king, interrupting the wedding of his daughter to the brave knight and carrying her off to my tower. Wiping that smug look off the face of Glenda the good witch etc... Is that wrong?

How does Overlord on the 360 compare to the PC, is it known to be buggy? I have a gut feeling the control might be better on the PC, but if it controls well enough on the 360 I might just go that way.

I only played 360 but I thought it handled very well. Sweeping the minions around with the right thumbstick is pretty natural. Selecting groups was tricky to get accustomed to but it just took a bit of practice. I havent tried it on PC, despite the fact that its been on Gametap for a very long time.

I'd agree with polypusher and say control is better on the 360. The PC requires you to hold down the right mouse button and then move the mouse to sweep your minions. It works, but it felt very sluggish to me. I only tried out the demo though (and didn't mess around much with settings), so it's possible they fixed it in the full game.

How do you get the expansion on the PC version? I was thinking of picking up the game on steam. Is the expansion included?

Sweet more sweet Pikmin: Lord of the Rings Edition action! And a Wii version too! I really liked Overlord for what I played of it. I may finish it up on 360 before I find myself with a new enough PC to play it on. I like that they're not trying to stuff more minions into the game as I'm sure that could become overbearing.

Overlord was very solid, and I'll likely buy O2 first day.

I gotta say, though, that overall I thought the game was missing something. I'm not exactly sure what, but it was merely very good, and it had the seeds of greatness. I think it was mostly that they didn't explore ramifications very well, and the upgrades you put into your castle were pretty pointless. I guess it wasn't deep enough.

But, a very good game. Not a capital-gs Great Game, but well worth your dollar.

I played Overlord on the 360 and really had a lot of fun with it from the humor to the fighting to the puzzles. Maybe I'm just being a pessimist, but I kind of just want them to leave Overlord as it is in my memory instead of making a second one that doesn't meet or surpass the first (a.k.a. cashing in on their successful i.p. to the point of running it into the ground). I do hope that they are able to make a second one that is just as enjoyable, but I'm thinking that the breath-of-fresh-air factor that the first one had going for it won't be maintained in the second one.

What gave it that factor to you that you? To me, it was not so much breath-of-fresh-air-like as it was more of another enjoyable RTS type game.

DON'T get it on the PC. The controls are much, much better on the 360. I loved the demo on the 360, bought it on PC because it was cheaper, and I figured like you did, that the control would be better, and I was every kind of wrong. One of my biggest gaming regrets of last year, since the bad control made me stop playing.

Get it on the PC and use the 360 controller if that is the problem.

I guess the control scheme and the mechanics along with the story were what I considered to be new and enjoyable in that regard (also I have a soft spot in my heart for a minion wearing a pumpkin on its head). Full disclosure: I never played pikmin, so I'm not sure how similar the two are but I've heard people compare them. I guess it could be considered an RTS but I think of it more as an adventure game where the minions are an extension of the overlord.

I'm in the same boat. I thought Overlord was really good, but I don't see the need for just more Overlord. I'll happily jump in if they prove me wrong.
