Tiger Woods 09
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 - 9:51pm
Anyonee else interested in this? I have to admit, I was actually more interested in this than I was in Madden 09, and Tiger drops on the 26th. Tee It Up! on XBL has piqued my interest in golfing again (it's been a long time since PGA Tour '96) and I think i'm getting the itch again.

I'm definitely interested in picking up TW09. I sold of 07 awhile back, and meant to pick up 08. I guess 09 will will have to do, if we can get a few of us that want to play.

I'd be interested with enough goodjer support. Last year Donan and I hooked up for a couple rounds and that was about it.
Now with Xbox Live: Redhwk GWJ
I think I'll be picking this up. Would be fun to have a GWJ golfing season of sorts. I wonder how you could arrange such a thing?

I'd be interested. I hope they kept the 'draw/fade' feature in this one. Overall I thought '08 was good. As Redhwk mentioned, we played a few rounds and didn't encounter any lag that I remember. And hook-up was o.k. I remember '07 had real issues with this and why some of us continued to play Links instead, for it was much better in almost all aspects. But it is EA and one should be cautious on initial release. I'd wait to see what the chatter is on this before getting it. (Btw, Golf: Tee it Up! is a great little game. A good value on XBLA)

I was thinking about picking this up. I recently got my 360 and tried demos for '07 and '08. '08 seemed to move at hyperspeed so I picked up '07 based on the demo feeling that much better. I wasn't even thinking about online play.

Demo's out tomorrow, looking forward to trying it. Seems like last year there was a deluge of games out when this appeared, and i feared i'd never get around to playing it. I'm interested to see this one, and see what they're doing with multiplayer, something about simultaneous rounds so you can play a match much more quickly. That could be good.

Demo is out and from what I've read in the XB Forums it's really dumbed down and you can't tell if it's going to be really a challenge or not. Hard to determine what improvements there really are. I guess I'll be downloading it (of course) and checking it out regardless.

Tried the demo. Speaking as someone who never has tried the series, I was ROYALLY impressed. This looks insanely enjoyable, and dearly hope some of you will pick this up too so we can have a GWJ Foursome.

I bought 08 last year and hardly touched it (barely played the game, either). I might be interested in 09 depending on support from the community.
2 of my friends had 08, but the servers didn't get online until about 2 weeks after the game came out, in which time both friends had returned the game for something else. impatient bastahds.

Okay, ignoring SwampYankees comment above, I just pre-ordeder this game. I think it could be a hoot if several of us play semi-regularly. Don't want to bite into Madden time or anything, but it would be fun. So cmon, please pick it up! Don't let my $60 be spent in vain...

I'd be down with some foursome action. It's in my GameFly queue and should be here a day or two after release. I'll even put on something slutty while we're on the course for ya to gawk at.

OK, I'm hurt.
I may end up trading Madden in for this if the frustration continues.
Before you came aboard divorced we had as many as 12 guys showing up fopr LINKS2004 on Tuesday nights. We had some great times.

I didn't notice anyone else posting this, so I thought I would share this EA promotional video -- it made me chuckle. Tiger Woods Can in Fact Walk on Water.

Did I make the great times go away?? *sniffle*

Harris takes EA to task over this, but i'm willing (barely) to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one, that it was a gag based on an obvious flaw in their game and they're making a joke at their own expense. I'm hoping that's what EA's doing.

The problem is, would EA be making a mockery of their last game if they had any competition? Seriously, I'm getting back to that place (again) where, as a sports gamer, I have hard time putting up with anything EA. They have really ruined the landscape of sports games.

I'm up for playing TW'09 with GWJ'ers, and several folks in this thread seem ready to play (at least 4+ by my count). However, even tho' I'm hearing murmurs that they really have cleaned up their on-line play, I hesitate to get it till I actually hear that it's working well (but on the other hand I'm sure to get weak and get it anyway).

Some comments from someone who got ahold of a copy early (no on-line info yet, but probably by the weekend for a couple more folks have got a copy too and plan to play).

Anyway, the cam starts behind your golfer and then switches to a multitude of camera views while the ball is traveling in the air. The cam stays behind you for a split second longer this year, and thats it before it switches to a random camera that you cannot pick. When playing with the CPU, it is identical to last year.
Replays can be veiwed from any angle.
Yes, the putting camera switches constantly so that you cannot have a read coming back if you miss. Oh well...
Load times are ALOT better this year. As far as the swing goes, the animations look better this year, as well as the feel/feedback you get from the meter in the bottom left. Very good feeling to it and much smoother it seems.
So far I have only played tour pro and it is a little too easy right now with my guy up to about a 7.1 out of 12. I have played a couple rounds of the first PGA tour event and I had a hole in one and shot 66. I felt that I left about a 60 on the course though. The CPU leaders were at 5 and 4 under.
Sorry OrthoStud, havent played the final round yet, and no, I have not seen OB stakes - but I will look later tonight. Lastly, the CPU was at about 5 under when I was around 1 under through 8 or 9.
Gamerface image was uploaded new, as I couldnt use last years image....
...
Im using the stock MS wireless controller. My tuning sweetspots are set around 52% for almost all clubs and I am getting plenty of distance. Right around tour average for a Driver (280) and 7-iron (155~) - and I am about half way leveled up (7.0). PS: You cannot use the right analog stick - at least I havent seen the option.
I dont know, but hitting straighter shots (at least for me) compared to my maxed out golfer last year on Tour Mode, seems ALOT easier as you can view your swing stick location in the bottom left. So if I am a little bit inside I can try to straighten it out on the upswing. I dont think Ive hit a wayward shot yet, and I am not as good as you guys. More of a recreational player. Last year my guy was all over the place.
With that said, putting seems very similar to last year on Tour Mode. Not easy. Lastly, I have only played two rounds and beat a few challenges, so with more difficult pin locations and weather, the difficulty may go up.
I will check on the minimum sweet spot percentage tonight. I hope to see you guys getting the game soon, as it is a little lonely online...
...What is cool though, after every shot you can pull the RT to post the shot online to the GamerNet challenges instantly, without interrupting play. Load times are quick. Nice feature.

I think waiting to see how the multiplayer works is very smart given past issues.

I've got my copy. I'll post some impressions tonight once i've spent some serious time screwing up the courses.

Having just spent a few hours with it tonight, i'm really impressed. That said, I'm speaking as someone who hasn't touched a golf game in over 10 years, so YMMV when it comes to my opinion.
That said, I'm enjoying this a lot. I'm on the second difficulty level (Balanced) and having a good time. Did some tour work, and yes, it is a little easy to start with but there are two other difficulty levels that i'm sure are less forgiving. In that time for me, anyway, I managed to chip in an eagle from the sand, and then triple bogey another hole to give me a -3 after 18 holes.
I really, really like the dynamic statistics. You can level up pretty quick in the custom drills (average skill gain seems to be around .5 or so), but then again, I guess that's to give people that nudge to use their own golfer rather than everyone just playing Tiger Woods in online games.
Moreover, I did a little dabbling in online play, and it seems just fine to me. I only did one little three-hole go-round (and sucked) but I had a great time doing it.
Like I said, i'm not a golfer, nor am I a golf game enthusiast, so I wouldn't know what the golden standard is and what the major flaws here are. As a casual gamer though, good times. May be a bit easy, but I think that'll be more of an issue for the stalwarts than the people picking this up for fun every now and then.
If anyone else picks this up and you see me on XBL, drop me a line. I'm going to be sinking some serious time into this.

Mine came in the mail yesterday, but ..... ok, I'll just say it.....
My wife forced me to watch big brother with her and I only got to create my golfer and play 2 holes at Sawgrass before bed.
If you see me around... shoot an invite. It just might get me out of watching another lame TV show.

I'm in, it's on the way from Gamefly. Early reviews are good, 1up really likes it. This one may be a purchase for me, given the extra courses and multiplayer (if it really works).

Alright, I found my first gripe.
The opening difficulty level (Balanced) isn't very balanced. Or hard. Once I leveled up my golfer (average skill level 8.0 although my short game needs work) I just crushed the TPC at Sawgrass to the tune of a -14 under par with little difficulty. The upside, is that there are two difficulty levels after that (Hard, and Tour Pro).
Except online. In internet play, there only seem to be two difficulty levels, Balanced and Tour Pro. I haven't tried the latter yet, but I have a feeling it might turn my -14 into a +24 right quick.
I'll give hard a try today, see how I do and report back. I have a feeling that "Tour Pro" may be the GWJ online mode of play favored, because Balanced just allows for too much awesomeness (Eagles are not a rarity, but a probability with any capable golfer on Balanced).
I have to say, for those of you worried about online play, i'm not seeing any issues whatsover. I did more dabbling last night, and although I didn't win a damn thing, I haven't seen hiccup a-one. Again, I was keeping it short with 3-Hole minigames, but no problems acessing, playing, very little lag.
EDIT: I forgot, there's a LOT of flex for playing courses though. Choice of tees, difficulty of the greens, fairways, of the pin, et cetera. Have I mentioned I like this game a lot? Because I do.

Tour Pro is usually the way to go. I'm pretty sure it does away with the power boost and spin meter and is much less forgiving on your swing.
Anyway I just picked this up today and I will add anyone here that shows interest in playing this online.
